Tales Of The Mighty Dragonair

1073 Chapter 12: There Was No Dragon Before You In These Lands

It collided with the other deadly spear that changed course by the far guard to puncture Arthur's exposed neck. But it eventually was deflected by the darting scales and the scales went on towards that guard.

This swift and amazing control ability by that guard though a thin line of energy came as a surprise, yet it didn't change anything in the end result.

"Screw you." The guard yelled with extreme hatred and his body was shaking as he realized he was now defenseless and in the room with such a deadly beast. Arthur was not going to show any mercy to the man that would never repay the favour.

"Ahh!"

The guards' scream suffocated the room as the man's body was alight with an immeasurable heat of fire. Finally Arthur's fiery breath managed to break through using the timely and unintended aid of the flying scales.

Arthur watched the man frantically try to toll on the floor to extinguish the fire but it kept clinging to his clothes. It was pointless anyway as Arthur continued to breathe his corrosive fire non-stop.

Acrid and putrid smell filled the room causing Arthur to choke beach tears as the smell irritated his eyes. However, he continued to breathe fire until the man was nothing but a pile of harmless powdery ash.

And then he walked outside the melted bars, turned to John as he completely forgot that he was there. Arthur found to his surprise that John was stricken with horror smacked on his face.

"W- W- Who a- a- are you?" John stuttered to Arthur as he nervously backed from the bars until his back collided with the wall. John looked at the wall in betrayal as he wished that there was further distance between him and this monster.

"Stand aside," Arthur said without even giving an explanation, "I'll free you now."

Arthur opened his mouth once more and the intimidating fire appeared. This time the shield didn't take much time to be cracked open and then the part of the bars he focused his fire on melted away.

"Come out," Arthur said in a casual tone as he stopped breathing fire and returned back into his human harmless form.  "We don't have much time to waste. We need to leave here before anyone misses this jerk."

John was still fixed in his place despite Arthur returning to his normal human state. John wasn't an old man as Arthur thought, but he wasn't young either.

Probably in his forties, but despite being locked in the cell for long years Arthur wondered how he could maintain his body in shape despite that poor food.

Yet Arthur wasn't in the mood to ask about anything now. He was slightly agitated by the fact that his dragonair energy died of its own will, and he couldn't summon or feel it once again.

'I'll have to get out first, they will retaliate about this,' he thought to himself before turning to the pile of ash and calmly got the spear and two rings from within.

"C'mon," he wore the two rings before adding, "I hope you have a good escape plan after all these preparations."

"How did you do it?" John finally managed to gather up his courage, "How could you change into… that dragon?"

"It's my system ability," Arthur lied, "doesn't everyone here do it?"

"Many people here can," John took a deep breath, "but not a single dragon has been seen living inside these lands for a long time."

"Let's talk later," Arthur cut to the point, "how do you plan to take us far away?"

"Can't you fly?"

"C'mon, I'm not on a ride."

"Then you can't," John finally started to move towards the hole in the bars before stopping there as if he was afraid to take the last step.

"C'mon," Arthur motioned him to take it, "it's just a step."

"A step that took so many years to take," John muttered as if he was talking to himself. He closed his eyes and took the step before opening them again. He took a deep breath… then laughed tensely

"Alright kid," he returned to his usual self, "first check the rings. Those guards should keep things inside. Hopefully we can find ourselves two nice uniforms."

Arthur nodded in understanding before hurriedly checking the rings. The rings' owner was killed and so they were wide open for him to check.

And the moment he did, these two rings were bound to him.

"That man… sigh," Arthur helplessly shook his head before taking out two uniforms with the corresponding gears. "Take one and let's hurry."

"What did you find inside?" John asked while wearing the heavy armor over his linen clothes. "Did you find a fortune?"

"Not a single coin or a thing worthy of anything inside," Arthur sighed, "he only kept spears, sabers, and a couple of swords… nothing more."

"Not a single token," John was surprised before bitterly adding, "he wasn't lying then… he lost it big last night."

"Yes," Arthur nodded while keeping what he really found from John. "Let's go," he turned to the stairs before asking, "will we take the front door?"

"Why not?" John laughed, "Just keep your head down and return the greeting with the same. Don't look anyone in the eye and don't even speak."

John threw a bunch of instructions for him before adding, "This prison supposedly is located at a distant space from the main castle. It has few guards but not too many and the good thing is…" he paused before laughing, "it's close to the main road that can take us away, far away from this damned place."

"Good, then let's leave fast."

"Not too soon," John's face showed a strange viciousness, "I have a long, very long debt to settle with bastards up there."

"You…" Arthur couldn't believe he was thinking about getting revenge at this moment, "We need to escape fast without being detected, not to alarm anyone by our escape."

"Who said we would alarm anyone?" John laughed before adding, "Believe me, this will serve our escape better than what you think."

Arthur didn't argue as he moved after him upstairs. In fact this place was so huge and he was shocked to discover how deeply they were confined.
