Ji Younai knew that the police would find out soon enough that she was the one who had helped the severely mentally unsound patient escape, and that she was also the culprit who caused the explosion at the asylum. Once they began to pursue the matter, she would have no excuse, potentially even getting arrested!

She did not want to wear a prison uniform. She did not want to go to jail!

More importantly, she didn’t want to die by someone else’s hand. Everyone would die someday, but that wasn’t how she wanted to go out!

The asylum was no longer safe because her aunt wanted her dead!

Nineteen-year-old Ji Younai, whose parents had both died, was resurrected after dying and had come back to life. After experiencing the mercilessness of her unfeeling relatives and seeing the darkness of human nature, she once again stood at a crossroad, between life and death. This time, she chose to live.

She wanted to escape the asylum!

Having stayed in the Ninth Asylum for more than a month, Ji Younai had discovered that the layout of the asylum was like a prison, where all the windows were reinforced with barbed wire, and each and every door across all the floors could only be opened with an access card. There were hundreds of surveillance cameras in operation, 24 hours a day, with no blind spots. Most importantly, there were security guards patrolling all areas who would be deployed once an hour every night.

Ji Younai regretted her decision to not leave with Liu Yun.

After memorizing the asylum’s emergency escape map, she returned to her bed helplessly and lay down to feign dead.

Sensing a hard object poking her at the waist, she reached her hand into her pocket and pulled out an access card and a lighter.

Ji Younai’s eyes lit up immediately, as if she had obtained the ultimate treasure.

Wearing a patient’s gown, Gong Siyu sauntered his way into the single ward where Wu Defang was temporarily detained, together with his personal bodyguard.

Wu Defang was already awake and her head was wrapped in a thick bandage.

There were policemen guarding the door, but the ward was empty.

Her hands were cuffed to the bed.

She was now the prime suspect because she had been disguised as a doctor, led a patient to the crisis stabilization ward where she attempted murder her, and even let another patient escape.

With both hands tucked stylishly into his pockets, Gong Siyu smirked mirthlessly as his slightly upturned narrow eyes filled with coldness, a devilish gloominess flowing between his brows. Wu Defang widened her eyes in horror the instant that she saw Gong Siyu, wanting to yell.

Her mouth was suddenly covered by a tall and burly bodyguard dressed in black.

Wu Defang watched the dashing man, who was standing by the bed. A sinister gaze in his eyes, he signaled for her to hush and stay mum with his actions. He then sat down slowly and crossed his legs gracefully.

“If you shout or anger me, I won’t save you.”

Hearing that Gong Siyu was going to save her, Wu Defang nodded profusely with all her might.

Gong Siyu told the bodyguard to remove his hand from the old woman’s mouth. Then, he suddenly took out his phone, unlocked the screen, and tapped on the voice recording app.

“If you answer a few questions I have truthfully, I’ll get you off the hook. How does that sound?”

“Ask away!”

His narrow, evil eyes curved upwards, those seductive eyes glowing with a dark luster as he schemed against her.

“What’s your relationship with Ji Cuihua?”

“We know each other. We’re good friends and we grew up together.”

“Did you know that Ji Cuihua embezzled all of Ji Younai’s familial assets and property after her parents died?”

“Yes!”

“Do you have any proof?”

“Yes, I do! We psychiatrists have a habit of making voice recordings every day. I have all the recorded conversations in my voice recorder!”

“Has Ji Cuihua ever tried to get you to kill Ji Younai?”

“Well…” Wu Defang hesitated, beginning to hem and haw, keeping her guard up and not daring to look at Gong Siyu.

“Has she!?!” His eyes were as terrifying as guillemot poison.

“Yes!” Wu Defang immediately cried out and complained, “I must have been possessed by a ghost to do this. Ji Cuihua said she would give me a million yuan. My father has cancer and I really needed the money…”

Gong Siyu stopped recording and stood up. Since he had achieved his purpose, he was not interested in staying much longer.

However, he turned around once more, smiling coldly and mysteriously while telling Wu Defang, “Well, I like going back on my word. When I said that I was going to save you just now, I was actually teasing you.”

He curled his thin lips wickedly and squinted, laughing heartily.

Before leaving, he gave his bodyguard some instructions. coldly and mercilessly.

“Since this old woman likes playing with electroshock therapy, you guys accompany her and have some fun. Keep her mouth shut tight and don’t let anyone hear the noises!”

“Yes, Young Master!”

After giving those instructions, Gong Siyu took his mobile phone and sauntered away like a coquettish devil.

His figure was like that of a suave and stunning actor from the olden days…

Afterward, Gong Siyu stayed with Ji Younai throughout everything, seemingly afraid that she would disappear.

He realized that not only could he not take care of a person, he could not even protect a living person. His guilt caused him to give Ji Younai extra protection and take care of all her needs. He was stopped just short of helping her shower.

Ji Younai felt extremely embarrassed, but if she were to turn Gong Siyu down, he would sulk and pull a long face in front of her.

What could she do? She felt hopeless too!

Gong Siyu realized Ji Younai had been behaving strangely in the afternoon.

She kept asking him the same few questions.

“Will you be lonely if you stay here alone?”

“Gong Siyu, thank you for doing so much for me! You’ll definitely be rewarded with something good in return!”

“You shouldn’t be angry all the time. If you’re always angry, you’ll get wrinkles and you won’t be handsome anymore!”

What was even more unusual was that Ji Younai went to bed at six in the evening.

Her strange behavior and words seemed to hint that she was going to bid farewell to him, making Gong Siyu feel as if something was about to happen. Thinking that Ji Younai was trying to kill herself again, he couldn’t sleep until late at night.

For now, he pretended to be asleep.

Just as he had expected!

Ji Younai moved after midnight!

She got out of bed.

She fumbled around silently, trying not to make any noise.

Gong Siyu squinted. He could sense that Ji Younai was moving towards the door of the ward.

He fully opened his eyes, which were glowing with a dim luster. After hearing that the door had opened, he immediately got out of bed and moved around in the dark. He secretly caught up with Ji Younai.

In the wee hours of the morning, the corridor of the VIP ward of the asylum was dim and filled with the smell of disinfectant liquid, but mostly quiet.

A nurse was on duty at the nurses’ station on the floor, but she was asleep.

Ji Younai wore her patient’s gown inside out in the public washroom on that floor of the asylum, trying to conceal the words ‘Ninth Asylum’. Crouched beside the door of the pitch-dark washroom, she observed the frequency of movement of the two surveillance cameras in the corridor.

Engrossed in observing the scene, she was shocked to find someone covering her mouth from behind.

Before she could struggle, she felt a warm breath and heard Gong Siyu’s voice in her ear.

It was as cold as a chilly breeze at night, slightly low and alluring, but daunting as well.

“Ji Younai, you better give me a decent explanation for this. Why are you sneaking around here in the middle of the night instead of sleeping? Are you trying to…” His throat turned dry and he felt an awful sensation in his chest as he asked, “Kill yourself?”

Ji Younai was so frightened that she got goosebumps!

Afraid of being discovered, she half-grasped Gong Siyu’s palm with her small, clammy hand and dragged him into a cubicle at the far end of the female washroom, locking the door. She did not check if it was the ladies’ or the gents’ room.

The two of them squatted in the small space.

It was pitch dark outside and there was no light.

Ji Younai suppressed her voice and began explaining while squeezing into the cubicle with him, “I’m not trying to kill myself. I’m trying to escape!”

Realizing in astonishment that she had spilled the beans on herself, she quickly covered her mouth. However, she began to find it a little strange and looked at Gong Siyu from head to toe with bewilderment.

She asked softly, “What were you doing behind me?”
