Xu Chenghao retracted his hand in satisfaction and made a gesture of invitation.

Jing Yicheng glanced at him, picked up a deformed chili pepper, and put it in his mouth. As he felt the chili pepper’s attacking power explode in his mouth, he deeply reflected on how stupid he used to be and why he insisted on eating raw chili peppers!

When he ate the second chili pepper, Jing Yicheng’s tongue became numb, and he realized he couldn’t take it anymore. He reached out and grabbed the remaining two hot peppers, put them in his pocket, and pretended to be dignified: “These chili peppers are indeed very refreshing and energizing. I feel very clear-headed now.”

Xu Chenghao added, “I think you can be even more clear-headed.”

Jing Yicheng: “No, such precious things can’t be consumed all at once. I’ll eat them next time when I’m not clear-headed.”

Xu Chenghao looked at him, his gaze full of distrust.

Jing Yicheng didn’t explain much. He sat calmly in his seat and looked at Xu Chenghao. Although his posture was elegant, he couldn’t hide his “I won’t eat chili even if it’s in my pocket” rogue look that Xu Chenghao noticed!

Xu Chenghao’s mouth twitched, and he smiled and said, “Don’t worry, Mr. Jing. The research has made great progress, and I will make sure you can eat chili every day soon.”

Jing Yicheng: “… that’s great.”

Xu Chenghao: “I think so too.”

The two of them chatted with fake smiles for a few more minutes until Li Nian came over and called Xu Chenghao away, saying he had something to discuss with him.

As soon as they left, Jing Yicheng couldn’t suppress his cough any longer and vented out – it was strange not to choke on raw chili; in fact, he did well holding back to save face. His assistant immediately handed him warm water and said helplessly, “Boss, you never liked spicy food, so why didn’t you refuse President  Xu?”

Jing Yicheng drank two sips of water and calmly said, “Habits can always be changed slowly. Maybe I’ll be able to eat it in the future.”

The assistant was puzzled: “So you changed your own habits for President Xu?”

Jing Yicheng’s drinking motion paused, and he calmly said, “I did it for myself.”

Assistant: “?”

Jing Yicheng rubbed the pattern on the teacup in his hand and whispered, “To quickly adapt to a life without sugar.”

The assistant still couldn’t understand and had to give up on the question. Instead, he asked, “Boss, do you still have the lozenges from last time? Do you want me to buy some for you?”

Jing Yicheng’s expression became subtle: “Don’t let anyone notice when you buy them.”

Assistant: “Huh?”

Jing Yicheng solemnly added, “Especially Ruan Chenxuan!”

Assistant: “…”

It’s pointless for men to make things difficult for other men.

On the other side, Li Nian pushed Xu Chenghao back to the office area and whispered, “We’re still working together, don’t make it too awkward.”

Xu Chenghao placed the little yellow duck flower pot on the desk and said innocently, “I didn’t do anything.”

Li Nian: “Didn’t do anything? Weren’t you forcing him to eat chili peppers early in the morning?”

Xu Chenghao: “He likes to eat them; I didn’t force him.”

Li Nian: “Who likes to eat raw chili peppers? Doesn’t it hurt your throat?”

Xu Chenghao: “Jing Yicheng likes to eat them raw. He used to fight for them before. Now when I bring them to him, he doesn’t even thank me!”

Li Nian  held his forehead and sighed helplessly: “Are you still holding a grudge?”

Last time Li Nian was also present during the chili pepper incident and even helped Xu Chenghao deal with his hangover. Let’s not talk about the embarrassing lateness that followed. Xu Chenghao was very angry at that time.

As expected, Xu Chenghao admitted it: “Yes! I’m just that petty. So don’t mess with me!”

Li Nian reminded him: “What if you make him angry?”

Xu Chenghao: “Then he’ll break the contract, and I’ll collect the penalty.”

Li Nian: “What if he targets the Xu family?”

After a moment of thought, Xu Chenghao replied: “Then I’ll die with him in the ocean of chili peppers!”

Li Nian: “Are you going to commit suicide together?”

Xu Chenghao retorted: “What are you talking about? It’s just a heroic way to die!”

Li Nian chuckled a few times and got up to leave. He’d better get to work now, this troublesome kid!

Xu Chenghao watched Li Nian leave and picked up his phone to find the picture he just took. He then posted  it on his private ‘moments’ page with the caption: “Jing Yicheng’s first day of being killed by chili peppers.” The picture showed Jing Yicheng putting the second chili pepper into his mouth.

There is still a long way to go; comrades must work hard!

Xu Chenghao silently cheered himself on and watered the pepper seedlings in the little yellow duck flowerpot, hoping the little yellow duck could lend him a helping hand!

Whether or not he could complete the task of “killing” Jing Yicheng depended on him and the little yellow duck!

After the commotion, work still needed to be done, and it was still busy. This time, not only Xu Chenghao but even Jing Yicheng was juggling many jobs, including research on mechanical engineering, central management systems, and projects.

Xu Chenghao felt that if things continued like that, even if he were the little yellow duck, he wouldn’t need to guard against the villain because the two of them were so busy that they could sit behind their desks all day without even making contact.

However, Xu Chenghao found some amusement for himself – such as ordering a super spicy lunch box for the other party when no pepper was available! Then he’ll take a photo of the other party’s pained expression while eating the spicy food and post it on his private ‘moments’ with the caption: “Day 2 of torturing Jing Yicheng with spice”.

And on the third day, he invited the other party to a Sichuan restaurant where every dish was filled with bright red chili peppers. He then proceeded to post in his moments with the caption: “Day 3 of torturing Jing Yicheng with spice”.

Later on, Jing Yicheng’s thermos was filled with sea salt, and every day he would have a mouthful of tablets and a stewed pear with snow fungus by his side.

But strangely enough, even with all of this, the other party never refused to eat anything spicy, and even when he discovered Xu Chenghao’s secret filming, he didn’t try to stop him.

To be honest, if it weren’t for the fact that the other party caused him to lose three chili peppers, Xu Chenghao might have been moved enough to become good friends with him!

It doesn’t matter if the other party is the villain or even a lunatic; what is important is their attitude and sincerity. If the other party genuinely treats Xu Chenghao well, he wouldn’t be difficult towards them either… the problem with the villain was that he made a wrong move in the beginning, causing Xu Chenghao to explode in anger which he still hasn’t calmed down from.

While idling away, the little yellow duck flowerpot in front of him had already grown bright red chili peppers, one complete and one deformed. There were also two deformed ones on the balcony.

When Xu Chenghao put the peppers into a fresh-keeping box, he hesitated for a moment, wondering if it was too inhumane to give them to Jing Yicheng to eat.

…his throat seemed to be not very good.

If he got sick, he would have to rest and couldn’t work. Not only would the project be delayed, but the pepper farm would also be affected.

After looking for excuses in his heart for a long time, Xu Chenghao finally locked all the peppers in the safe and decided to temporarily avoid Jing Yicheng tomorrow.

—He’s seen that he was sincerely seeking forgiveness now!

So, the next day, Jing Yicheng, who was prepared to welcome the arrival of the peppers, was surprised to find that Xu Chenghao was absent.

He sat in his seat and watched the young man entering the office area, thinking that the other party would come over to give him fresh peppers like three days ago. However, the other party did not even look at him, holding the empty little yellow duck flowerpot and walking straight into his own office area.

Jing Yicheng frowned slightly. His first reaction was that he had done something wrong again?! His second reaction was to wonder if there were no excess or failed chili this time.

Jing Yicheng didn’t care about his own throat condition at all but was more concerned about why the other person suddenly didn’t give him chili. In the end, he couldn’t sit still and went over to ask directly.

Xu Chenghao looked up at him in surprise: “Your throat is like this and you’re still thinking about chili?”

Jing Yicheng glanced at the empty little yellow duck flowerpot again and asked, “So there’s no excess or failure this time?”

Xu Chenghao slightly shifted his gaze and gave a perfunctory answer.

Jing Yicheng felt that the other party’s attitude was a bit strange, so he sat down and stared at him carefully: “Are you angry?”

Xu Chenghao: “…No.”

Jing Yicheng also felt that it didn’t seem like it, but the sudden change in the other person made him uneasy: “Did you hear something?”

Xu Chenghao: “…No.”

Jing Yicheng frowned, wondering if he was overthinking and if the other party really didn’t have any leftover chili to give him.

Xu Chenghao waved his hand in front of him: “What are you thinking? Are you still thinking about wanting chili peppers even though I didn’t give you any?”

Jing Yicheng snapped out of his thoughts and said without thinking, “Yeah, doesn’t President Xu know that I love to eat raw chili peppers?”

“Spurt, cough, cough, cough.” Li Nian, who was passing by, sprayed a mouthful of coffee and grabbed a few tissues from Xu Chenghao to wipe his mouth. “Sorry, I choked on my drink, and… I’ll have someone clean the floor right away.” He then left quickly.

Xu Chenghao sighed helplessly and gestured, “See that? How much damage can your words cause when you’re already hoarse from talking?”

Jing Yicheng opened his thermos and took a sip of water, saying, “It’s getting colder; I think I might have caught a cold.”

Xu Chenghao raised an eyebrow: “Say it again!”

Jing Yicheng: “…”

Xu Chenghao gave him a blank look, then lowered his head to continue working.

Jing Yicheng sat across from him and watched for a while, his gaze sliding from the other’s handsome face to his long, signing fingers, but he couldn’t figure out what was wrong.

Could it be that he was overthinking things? Perhaps there was another mysterious spicy rice box waiting for him today?

Jing Yicheng took another sip of water with seaweed soaked in it, and after five minutes of struggling, he realized that he couldn’t get any useful information out and had to leave – after all, he was also busy.

As soon as Jing Yicheng left, Li Nian, who had disappeared, quickly appeared and sat opposite Xu Chenghao, saying, “Oh my god, is he crazy? His voice is already like that, and he’s still waiting for you to torture him? No, he’s not crazy, he’s a masochist!”

Xu Chenghao said leisurely: “I told you he likes to eat it, but you didn’t believe me.”

Li Nian clicked his tongue twice, saying, “The other party is rushing to cooperate with you and give you money but still stays here to let you torture him. Honestly, I would think he was pursuing you if you were a woman! And it’s the kind of deep, unconditional love.”

Xu Chenghao didn’t even lift his head and pointed to his temple: “You better remember, we used to be rivals in love, and the cooperation was completely because he took something from me and felt guilty. What kind of pursuit and unconditional love are you talking about? Forget it.”

Li Nian: “I’m kidding. I just think Jing Yicheng is a bit strange, especially towards you.”

Xu Chenghao paused and looked up: “What’s so strange about him?”

Li Nian, who was rarely serious, recalled: “I can’t describe it, but I feel that his feelings towards you are completely different from his feelings towards us.”

Xu Chenghao turned his black pen in his hand and frowned slightly: “That’s because he thinks we are kindred spirits, so he has a sense of camaraderie towards me.”

Li Nian looked him up and down and nodded, agreeing, “Sometimes he is quite weird.”

Xu Chenghao: “…”

“Roll!”

The author has something to say:  Xu Chenghao: Let’s spare the villain with a bad throat first.

Jing Yicheng: Why is there no chili? Did I do something wrong? It’s okay, I have a good voice!

Li Nian: Shocked.jpg

T/N: Li Nian is the only one seeing the truth for what it is, lol. The one pursuing and the one being pursued are both clueless idiots, hahahaha.
