“Why can’t I laugh?”

Jiang Dao sat down beside Jing Yu.

“Mr. Chu is not as scary as you think. If you don’t understand the character, why don’t you go back to the hotel and go to his room to ask him for advice?”

Jing Yu shook his head like a rattle, with undried tears hanging on his face. “I’m not going!”

Clearly, he still had lingering fears.

Jiang Dao laughed. “Hey, don’t be afraid of him. He’s just pretending to be fierce. He’s actually not that difficult to get along with. If you go to him, he will definitely help you act.”

Jing Yu frowned, his face full of disbelief: “He definitely isn’t pretending, and is naturally fierce. I… I was mentally prepared before I joined the crew and heard that he has a bad temper. I just didn’t expect that even on the first day of shooting he would be so fierce…”

In the end, Jiang Dao could not persuade Jing Yu to seek Chu Yinlong for advice. Helpless, he could only drag him to buy a smoothie together, and strolled back to the hotel.

Who knew that as soon as they went upstairs, the pair was stopped by Chu Yinlong.

“You two, come to my room.” With no emotion on his face, Chu Yinlong turned around and entered his room.

“Xiao Dao…” Jing Yu was about to cry again, his voice trembling.

Jiang Dao stretched out his hand and grabbed his arm, mercilessly dragging him into Chu Yinlong’s room.

“Sit down, I’ll help you break down your role.” Chu Yinlong pointed at the sofa against the wall and handed the script in his hand to the two of them. “Also, Xiao Dao, if you commit the same mistakes as him in the future, you won’t be spared either.”

Unfazed by his threat, Jiang Dao laughed and raised his eyebrows provocatively at Chu Yinlong.

In a little more than an hour, Chu Yinlong took apart the character of Xu Zhou, smashed it into pieces, and reassembled it for Jing Yu. Jiang Dao was also dragged into their practice. The impromptu tutoring session finally ended when Jing Yu was able to grasp the subtle feeling of being an undercover agent.

“Okay, you two can go back.” Chu Yinlong closed the script. “Do well tomorrow.”

“Yes, thank you, Teacher Chu.” Jing Yu thanked him respectfully and quickly left the room, obviously still afraid of Chu Yinlong.

In stark contrast to Jing Yu, Jiang Dao was slouching in the armchair at the moment.

He even took a candy from the coffee table, peeled it open, and put it in his mouth.

“You…” Chu Yinlong was speechless. “After being scolded for a day, you’re not afraid of me?”

“What’s there to be afraid of?” Jiang Dao looked at him with a smile. “Half of the crew is older than you, and there are many veteran actors. If you don’t pretend to be fierce and can’t hold them back, more and more people who don’t agree with you… At that time, filming this movie won’t be possible.”

Chu Yinlong did not speak, but his eyes fell on Jiang Dao with a slightly complicated scrutiny.

Jiang Dao smiled: “But no matter how fierce you are, it’s all pretend, so what am I afraid of?”

Chu Yinlong smiled back. “You were so obedient on set, so it’s all a pretense.”

Jiang Dao crunched and chewed the candy. “I was helping you establish authority.”

“Okay,” Chu Yinlong waved at him, “hurry back to the room to sleep.”

“Wait a minute, I have something else actually.” Jiang Dao got out of his armchair. He sat up and said, “There was a shot that can be changed today. I didn’t want to dismantle you in front of others at the time, so I wanted to tell you now instead.”

Chu Yinlong:  …

Jiang Dao reached out his hand: “Do you have a tie? Let me use it.”

Staring at Jiang Dao for a moment, seeing his serious face, Chu Yinlong turned around and took a tie from the closet.

“That scene where someone is tied up can be improved.” Jiang Dao took the tie. “Your tying method is not bad, but it’s too complicated…”

He raised his legs and put them on the coffee table, and pulled up his trousers. Using his ankles, he then used Chu Yinlong’s tie to demonstrate “Look, tying it like this is much quicker and also prevents one from escaping. The scene is quite fast-paced, so I think it’s better this way.”

Seeing Jiang Dao flicking his fingers a few times to tie a firm knot, Chu Yinlong pondered for a moment and nodded: “It makes sense. Let me learn it.”

Jiang Dao unknotted the tie and handed it to him.

“Here, first loop the tie in your hand, and then…” After saying this, he pointed to his ankle again. “Grab my ankle, from the side, and loop around, yes, then…”

Half-kneeling on the carpet with the tie in his hand, Chu Yinlong wrapped and tightened the tie according to Jiang Dao’s instructions, gradually binding the two smooth calves together. The wine-red tie lined the fair skin, and the strength of the binding made a slight depression into the skin revealing an indescribable sense of… temptation.

“You learned very fast.” Jiang Dao’s laughing voice came from above Chu Yinlong’s head.

He reached out and untied the knot, lowered his legs, and raised his wrists together. “Try tying my hands. I won’t guide you this time, you can do it yourself.”

Chu Yinlong said nothing, holding the tie again, and bound Jiang Dao’s wrists together.

There were no mistakes in his movements, but because he wasn’t fully proficient, his movements were a bit slow.

“Okay, but in that shot, the person was pressed on the ground and had his hands tied back.” Jiang Dao motioned Chu Yinlong to untie his tie, then recalled the shooting situation, sat on the ground, and waved to Chu Yinlong. “Come on, try restoring the scene.”

Chu Yinlong took a shallow breath and pursed his lips, but he didn’t say anything.

Following the plot, he leaned over and pressed Jiang Dao to the ground, grabbed Jiang Dao’s arm, and tied his arms together. This time, his technique was more proficient and his speed also improved a lot.

Lying on the carpet, Jiang Dao half turned over to look at Chu Yinlong, and smiled heartlessly: “You’re quite talented, learning so fast.”

He was still wearing the loose sleeveless vest from filming. When he turned around, the fabric from his clothes pulled up, revealing a thin waist, with faintly visible muscle lines.

Chu Yinlong reached out his hand subconsciously, pulled down Jiang Dao’s clothes, and covered his waist again.

“Okay, I’ve learned it.” His voice was calm and deliberate. “Turn over and I’ll untie it for you… It’s past twelve o’clock, you go back and have a good rest. We have a lot of filming tomorrow.”

“Sure, got it.” With his wrists free again, Jiang Dao stood up from the ground and waved at Chu Yinlong. “I’m heading back, good night.”

Before he left, he heard Chu Yinlong speak again: “If you find something that can be improved in the future, just say so on the set. You don’t have to be so cautious about demolishing my authority. I won’t dismiss all suggestions or opinions in order to appear authoritative.”

Jiang Dao turned his head and smiled, and said casually: “Isn’t it because I’m afraid you’ll scold me? You’re so fierce on set!”

After speaking, he turned to open the door and ran away.

Seeing the door close behind him,  Chu Yinlong shook his head helplessly, looking down at the crumpled tie in his hand. The fleshy tip of his finger rubbed the soft silk surface of the tie lightly, and the image just now appeared in his mind uncontrollably.

His throat rolled unconsciously.

The next second, he strode to the closet and threw his tie into the corner.

Then he took out a sandalwood incense from his luggage bag and lit it, closed his eyes, and meditated quietly until the incense stick burned out.

———-

The next day’s filming went smoothly.

Although Jing Yu is young, he is an excellent actor with professional training after all. After Chu Yinlong helped him break down the role, he quickly grasped the essence of Xu Zhou and his acting improved rapidly.

Of course, Chu Yinlong’s prestige on the set did not change, confirming those rumors of him having a bad temper.

Fortunately, every time he scolded someone, he had a reason and justification. When he makes a mistake, he will also rework and reshoot the scene again and again. Because he didn’t relax the requirements for himself, his actions did not attract everyone’s resentment.

Five days later, one of Jiang Dao’s major scenes is about to start filming.

This episode is also Jiang Dao’s most important indoor scene – torturing Xu Zhou after he accidentally revealed his identity and was arrested. The entire scene is dark and full of tension. There aren’t many lines, but the requirements for the actors’ micro-expressions and body language are very high.

After having makeup and scars applied, Jing Yu leaned over to Jiang Dao and sighed: “Today’s scene is too difficult. I guess I’m going to be scolded by Teacher Chu again… Hey, in a bit, can you be more ruthless? It doesn’t matter if you really hurt me – it’s easier to amplify emotions than to fake them.”

Jiang Dao raised his eyebrows and looked at him: “Really?”

Jing Yu nodded solemnly. “Really!”

“Okay, that’s what you said.” Jiang Dao’s mouth curled into a smile.

In the first part of the scene, Jess grabs Xu Zhou’s hair and rudely drags the injured undercover officer into a small dark room.

Jiang Dao’s expression changed instantly the moment the clapperboard sounded.

His whole body was cold, and there was no emotion in his eyes when he looked at Jing Yu, as if he was looking at something that needed to be disposed of.

When his eyes met Jiang Dao’s, Jing Yu shivered unconsciously.

Following the script, Jiang Dao grabbed Jing Yu’s half-length hair, glanced at his bloody face, and then began to drag him away without pity.

The action director had instructed them before. Jing Yu should cooperate with Jiang Dao’s dragging, and move along with it to reduce the possibility of injury. However, at that moment, Jing Yu couldn’t keep up. Feeling his scalp suddenly pulled, he couldn’t help crying out in pain.

“Stop!” Chu Yinlong interrupted in a deep voice. “Jing Yu, what are you doing?”

“I’m sorry!” Jing Yu covered his head, with tears threatening to come out. “I- I zoned out, my bad!”

While apologizing, he secretly glanced at Jiang Dao, and muttered in his heart: He doesn’t look scary at all now. What happened to him just now? Why did he suddenly feel that Xiao Dao really wanted to kill him… …It’s too embarrassing to be frightened by an actor who is more involved in the drama than me. He can’t admit it, he can’t!

Jiang Dao stood aside with his arms folded, watching Jing Yu sneak a glimpse at him.

Seeing the aggrieved little eyes, Jiang Dao understood. Instead of “excessive force”, the momentum on his body should have scared the child who had never seen real death.
