Edge of the Apocalypse

Chapter 14: Abandonment And Persistence

Alan entered a hidden supply point. It was a cave, covered with leaves. If he didn't carefully inspect this area, it would be very difficult to discover. He drank all the water in the replenishment point before gasping for breath.

He almost succeeded.

Six months in the training camp was enough to know a person. Especially for someone as arrogant and impulsive as Maho, his personality was clear and his weaknesses were obvious. Alan used himself as bait to lure Maho out of the sniper position by exploiting his character weakness. He then used the horned deer to attract his attention, waiting for an opportunity to launch a sneak attack. Even if Maho's reaction exceeded Alan's expectations, he was prepared.

Alan had already prepared another trap on the route where Maho could escape. Sure enough, Maho was like a frightened prey crashing into a trap. The trap didn't take his life, but it was enough to make it difficult for him to move.

This series of hunts was intertwined, but Ellen had not thought carefully enough. He had missed Merry.

Perhaps Merry's cowardice made him subconsciously ignore the girl and not treat her as a real opponent. Merry not only ruined his plan, but also almost killed him.

Behind Alan was a blood slot that had been plowed by a bullet. Fortunately, it was only a superficial wound, not a direct hit from the bullet. He tore the uniform into strips and bound the wound. Alan picked up Kuang Tu and left the supply point. He didn't have time to rest. He had to get rid of Maho before he could recover from his injuries. Otherwise, if he and Merry worked together, Alan's life would be very difficult.

After leaving the supply point, Alan picked up a tall camphor tree and climbed up. He climbed all the way to the top of the tree and stretched his head out from the dense leaves. What he saw was a sea of trees. Occasionally, when the mountain breeze blew by, the leaves would undulate like waves, making it a spectacular sight. The forest was very calm, and Alan was not in a hurry to move. He patiently waited for the prey to reveal its whereabouts.

Not long after, a flock of birds suddenly flew up in the sea of trees half a kilometer away from the west side, chirping and flying elsewhere. Allen grinned, anchored himself, quickly slid down the tree and dived into the woods to the west.

"Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!" Ma Ao was furious. He leaned against a tree and smashed the ground with the butt of his sniper rifle. Only in this way could he vent his anger slightly. He was wounded, but he could not die.

His chest was covered in blood and flesh, which was the result of being brushed past by the blade of the Wild Butcher Blade. This was just a brush. If he hadn't dodged it in time, the pitch-black broadsword would have cut him in half. Thinking back to the knife that Alan swept out, Maho was still a little scared. That saber strike was so fast and accurate, but it was not sophisticated enough. Otherwise, Maho wouldn't be able to sulk here.

Apart from the knife wound on his chest, the two sharp wooden tips on his right leg made him even more furious. It was a trap. Needless to say, it was definitely Alan's doing. They stabbed deeply into Maho's calf, almost piercing through his legs. Right now, the wooden tips were thrown into one piece and his legs were bandaged urgently. However, the pain from the wound was like a fire, causing every nerve in Maho to tremble endlessly.

Suddenly, Lin Ye in front of him shook, and Ma Ao immediately turned the spear around.

"Don't shoot, it's me."

A timid voice said.

"Merry?" Maho watched as the girl emerged from the shade and looked at the pistols in Merry's hands. The black youth said coldly, "Stand still."

Merry bent down and put the pistol on the ground. "Come on, Maho, I'm just trying to help you."

"Help me? How do I know if what you said is true or false?"

Merry shook her head and sighed, "Listen, Maho, if I want to harm you, there's no need to drive Alan away for you. We've already agreed that he's the same enemy. After killing him, you can help me escape. It's that simple."

"You shot him?" At that time, Ma Ao also heard the gunshots and roughly guessed that Merry was the one who did it. However, now that he was injured, he was more vigilant.

Merry spread out her hands and said, "Do you think there's anyone else here other than me?"

Maho nodded and finally put down his gun. Merry walked over and left the guns in their original positions. Only then did the black teenager feel relieved. Merry, who didn't have a gun, couldn't pose any threat at all.

Arriving beside Maho, Merry frowned and said, "How are your injuries?"

"I can't die."

"Let me take a look for you." Merry bent down and carefully untied the cloth that Mahoney had tied to her lap.

This action of hers caused the collar of the camp uniform to pull down, revealing the bamboo shoots-like twin peaks inside. As Merry moved, dots of pink flashed by from time to time. Ma Ao swallowed his saliva. The scene in front of him reminded him of the crazy and joyful scenes he had with Merry. There seemed to be a fire burning beneath his lower abdomen, and Maho's breathing became somewhat heavy.

Merry rebandaged his wounds and raised her head. "Alright, you" she said.

Maho suddenly reached out to hold the girl's face and pushed Merry to the ground. He panted and sat down, stretching out his hand to take off Merry's trousers. The girl whispered, "What are you doing? Now is not the time to do this!"

"Cut the crap, you're my man. I'll do whatever I tell you!" Maho vented his anger on the girl and transferred his anger towards Alan to the body below.

All of this quietly fell into his eyes.

A pair of bright red eyes.

A few minutes later, Maho shouted, his body trembling violently. Alan, who was hiding behind the bushes, tightened his grip on Kuang Tu as he prepared to charge over. Now was the time for Maho to relax. There was no easier time to kill him than now. Just as Alan was about to sprint, a scene caused him to forcefully stop.

Merry, who was pressed to the ground, quietly picked up a wooden tip and stabbed it into Maho's neck. Maho let out a muffled cry. Merry held the wooden tip and stabbed it a few more times. The black youth covered his neck and blood spilled out of his fingers uncontrollably. He looked at Merry and spat out a few words with all his strength, "Why …"

Pushing Maho's corpse to the ground, Merry put her pants back on, then sat down on Maho's body and stabbed him in the chest several times with her wooden tip. '"Why? To survive, of course. Do you think I really want to sleep with you? That's to make you like my body! Do you really think I want to escape? No, I want to stay and live until the end!" She cried hysterically as she stabbed.

"I'm not like you guys. I've already used three enlightenment potions. Even if I can escape, I won't be able to survive for ten years! Only by surviving and winning until the end can I get the chance to repair my neurological injuries." Merry's face was covered in blood. It was Maho's blood. There was no cowardice on her face, only madness. "So you must die, and so must that little white-haired brat. I will seduce him and make him look like you in his happiest moments!"

Merry stabbed hard again before she stood up. She wiped the blood off her face and turned to pick up the automatic pistol, but her entire body froze.

In front of her, Ellen held Kuang Tu and looked at her coldly.

Merry forced a smile and said, "You're here? Look, I just helped you deal with him."

Alan didn't say anything, but his gaze was suffocating Merry.

Merry seemed to be frightened by his gaze. The girl retreated and fell to the ground, tears streaming down her cheeks. She shook her head and pleaded, "Please. I don't want to die. I just want to get out of here. You see, as long as you don't kill me, I can make you happy."

She took off her uniform and straightened her chest as hard as she could. The twin peaks that the young girl had just developed weren't very big, but they were strong enough and had a youthful pink color. "You haven't touched a woman yet, have you? Come, you can do whatever you want."

Alan shook his head and said, "I don't want to be like him."

Merry's entire body stiffened. "Did you hear that?"

"What do you say?"

The girl suddenly rolled, grabbed Maho's sniper rifle and jumped up. '"Yes, I'm going to kill you! I just want to live. Is it wrong?" The muzzle shouted at Alan.

"That's right, but unfortunately, I also have a reason to live."

"Then go die!" Merry, press the trigger.

But Allen was short and slid sideways. The bullet shattered an arm-thick branch on the ground. Ron once said that guns were the best choice when Origin Energy wasn't strong enough. Their strengths are obvious, but their weaknesses are equally pronounced. As long as one avoided the shooting trajectory of the firearm, no matter how powerful it was, it would be useless. So when Merry picked up the sniper rifle, Alan had already calculated her trajectory and dodged it first.

The distance between him and Merry was only six or seven meters, but it had already been erased by Alan's several twists and turns. At this time, Merry did not even have time to fire a second shot! Allen dived to her left, three times as fast as a normal person, making the youth as agile as a cheetah. Without pity or hesitation, the Berserk Slaughter in his hand turned into a black crescent arc and swept past Merry's neck!

Crescent Moon Slash and Berserk Slaughter's sharpness caused the young girl's head to fly up and finally land beside Maho. Looking at the headless corpse lying on the ground, Alan straightened his body. A complicated expression flowed through his eyes, and he finally calmed down.

"I sympathize with you, but I hate deception more than this!"

Leaving behind these words, the youth dragged his broadsword and left. At dusk, the magic ship landed on a valley. The stern cabin opened and Ron waved his hand inside. "Come in."

When the airship rose again, the forest in the porthole gradually shrunk. Looking at the forest, Alan felt that some of his things would be abandoned forever.

The next day, Alan put on the new uniform that Ron had prepared for him. In addition to the original vest and camouflage pants, there was also a black leather jacket. Half a year had passed, and the weather had changed from the midsummer when he entered the camp to the current cold winter. By the time Alan woke up, it was snowing outside the barracks.

Within the snowflakes, specks of strange colored Origin Energy fluorescence danced across the sky. It was as beautiful as that morning five years ago, but Alan was no longer the same as he was five years ago. Half a year of intense training had allowed him to grow another 5 centimeters taller. His originally thin body now had some muscular lines. Right now, he looked like a fourteen or fifteen year old boy.

He walked out of the barracks. The Mana Flying Ship and Ron were already waiting in the plaza. The second lieutenant waved to Alan, "Hurry up. This guy will take you to the garrison base in District 13. There, someone will take you to Babylon."

Alan approached and said to Ron, "Thank you for your guidance, Second Lieutenant."

"You should thank yourself. Survive, kid." Lieutenant Ron patted Ellen on the shoulder and pushed him into the stern of the airship.

As the cabin slowly closed, Ron suddenly shouted, "Listen, Alan, sometimes we have to give up something and even turn ourselves into devils. But never forget, there are some things that we still need to hold on to. Otherwise, what awaits you is the real hell!"

Hearing this, Allen asked. The closed cabin isolated Ron's figure, but a smile gradually appeared on Alan's face. Ron's words made his cold heart feel warmer.
