Chapter 40: Assassination

“It seems like they don’t have good intentions.” Jin Cheng’s eyes flashed with a dark light as he took out his phone and pressed a few times on the screen.

Le Yu took out a pistol from the storage box in front of the car. “We’ll have to deal with them. We’re still far from the city police station!” she said.

Jin Cheng glanced at her. “You’re still sick, so don’t mess around. I’ve already called people over. It’ll take five minutes at most.”

Le Yu smiled. “Five minutes? It’s enough for them to play us to death.”

“You know who they are?” Jin Cheng asked.

Rolling down the car window beside her, Le Yu combed her long hair that had been messed up by the wind. “I’m not sure now.” As she spoke, she stuck her upper body out of the window and fired at the car behind her without hesitation.

The other party quickly organized a counterattack. The bullets hit the bulletproof body of the car, but only left behind the sound of a gunshot. There was not a single scratch.

“This car is good!” said Le Yu. She quickly retaliated with the help of the rearview mirror.

Her marksmanship was very good. The reason why she didn’t hit her target was because she wasn’t thinking clearly. The smell of gunpowder smoke was the most exciting thing for Le Yu. It had been a long time since she had felt such a stimulating feeling.

“If you like it, I’ll give it to you.” Just as Jin Cheng quickly responded to Le Yu’s words, the car behind him suddenly lost control and slammed into the roadside guardrail.

“Your marksmanship is still as good as ever, Ghost!”

“I’m not Ghost when I’m on an assassination mission,” said Le Yu after checking the bullet.

Jin Cheng smiled. “Yes, you should be Hunter. My mistake!”

When Le Yu heard this codename, she smiled. “There are still two cars of people. Where are the reinforcements you called for?”

“What’s wrong? You’re not killing today?”

Le Yu sighed. “Stop joking. I’m almost out of bullets.”

Jin Cheng glanced at his phone. “They’ll be here soon. Roll up the window, don’t fight them head-on.”

“There are still three bullets left. Do you think I can shoot down another one?”

The high-speed car quickly attracted the attention of the traffic police, and the sound of the gunshots also entered their ears.

“Do you think the police are here to save us?” asked Le Yu.

Jin Cheng’s forehead started to sweat. He smiled and said, “They’ll probably think that we’re terrorists, just like these people who are chasing us.”

“No way! You’re a Major General of the Empire,” Le Yu said teasingly, but her eyes were fixed on the cars coming from behind. When the cars appeared, she shot their tires.

The car seemed to have lost its direction as it drew a strange line on the road. Jin Cheng lowered his body and dodged the random shots fired by the other party in a panic.

“Bingo! It hit again,” said Le Yu.

Jin Cheng smiled. “Amazing.”

He turned his head to look at Le Yu and suddenly smelled the smell of rust. He was shocked and shook the car in his hand. He quickly adjusted his state of mind and asked, “Yu, did you get shot?”

Le Yu endured the gunshot wound on her arm. It was so painful that tears were about to flow out. She groaned, “The bullet grazed me. It hurts!”

“Don’t panic! Don’t be afraid! I’m here, you’ll be fine.” Jin Cheng’s heart seemed to be clenched tightly by something. He anxiously pulled out a towel and handed it to Le Yu.

Le Yu took it and pressed it on the wound that was bleeding. “Don’t panic! Hold the steering wheel tight. I don’t want to die in a traffic accident with you instead of being killed by the enemy.”

Her breathing was heavy, and her blood was flowing out rapidly, causing her vision to turn black.

Jin Cheng seemed to have been comforted by her words. “I won’t let you die.”

As an active-duty soldier, he had extremely strong combat ability. Just now, he had been shocked by Le Yu’s gunshot wound and lost his sense of propriety.

In front of the person you love the most in your life, it was always easy to make a fool of yourselves, and might even not do what you were good at.

“I really shouldn’t have come out with you. If I had stayed at home obediently, I might have been fine. Am I right, Major General?”

Le Yu’s original intention was to comfort Jin Cheng and ease the heavy atmosphere in the car. However, her words were like a poisonous needle, directly stabbing into Jin Cheng’s heart.

The light in his eyes darkened, and he forced a smile. “Yup.”

Noticing Le Yu’s silence, Jin Cheng had a bad feeling. He asked, “Do you think these people are Li Feng’s men? Don’t sleep, Le Yu! Yu!”

He turned to look at Le Yu. With the warm light from the street lamp in front of him, he could see her pale face clearly. “Speak, Le Yu! Don’t sleep, my dear!”
