Chapter 60 – Pharmacy (2)

When she came out of the house, the sky began to snow again. It was endless and fell silently like goose feathers.

“Huh? Where was that person just now? How come he’s gone?”

Su Xiaoxiao had no other choice but to go back to the side room and wait.

When she was passing the Moon Gate of the second entry courtyard, the sound of man’s heavy coughs came from a room at the back row.

“Shen Chuan, is that you?”

She asked.

The coughing sound became more and more severe, accompanied by retching. The kind of  cough that uses all the effort of one’s might.

Su Xiaoxiao frowned and quickly went to that room.

It was not Shen Chuan.

It was a young man in his early twenties. He was half lying on the edge of the bed, coughing so much that he was sweating all over. The blood was rushing upward, and his whole face was flushed.

Su Xiaoxiao quickly came to the bed and helped him to sit up, with his legs hanging under the bed.

The man’s body temperature was on the high side, and Su Xiaoxiao could feel a burning heat in her palm, which was much higher than that of Wei Ting at that time.

Su Xiaoxiao didn’t bring out the first aid kit bag, so she could only measure his forehead temperature with her hand.

“I’m afraid that it’s not because his fever has reached 40 degrees.” Su Xiaoxiao unbuttoned his shirt and leaned over to listen to his heart. “Take a deep breath. When I let you vomit, you vomit again.”

The man was barely conscious and had a very poor response. He couldn’t understand what Su Xiaoxiao said.

Su Xiaoxiao frowned, and checked his pulse again.

Su Xiaoxiao made the diagnosis based on his breath sounds, symptoms and pulse condition. Then she made a preliminary diagnosis of acute pneumonia1.

1Pneumonia :  infection that inflames air sacs in one or both lungs, which may fill with fluid or pus (purulent material), causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. A variety of organisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi, can cause pneumonia. [Mayoclinic.org]

In ancient times, when wind and cold could kill people, pneumonia was definitely considered a serious illness. It should have been several days since he was infected, but he did not receive timely and effective treatment, which led to the aggravation of his condition.

If it continued like this, there was no guarantee that it would not cause complications such as pleurisy2, and it may even be life threatening in serious cases.

2Pleurisy : also called pleuritis, is a inflammation of the sheet-like layers that cover the lungs (the pleura). The most common symptom of pleurisy is a sharp chest pain when breathing deeply. Sometimes the pain is also felt in the shoulder. The pain may be worse when you cough, sneeze or move around, and it may be relieved by taking shallow breaths. Other symptoms can include shortness of breath and a dry cough. [nhsinform.scot]

However, she did not have the medicine for pneumonia in hand.

As she was thinking about it, she suddenly felt a flash in front of her eyes.

She closed her eyes subconsciously, and when she opened her eyes again, she saw the pharmacy at the base——

She was standing in the internal medicine department section, and the medicine cabinet in front of her was a whole row of antibiotics and ribavirin3, which were obviously used to treat acute pneumonia.

3Ribavirin : also known as tribavirin, is an antiviral medication used to treat RSV infection, hepatitis C and some viral hemorrhagic fevers.  [Wikipedia]

Su Xiaoxiao started to take the medicine.

This time she didn’t see the empty first aid kit, but she brought a small back basket with her.

-The back basket

“By the way, there is also Father Su’s medicine!”

She walked to the surgical area in a hurry, but she didn’t have time to screen carefully. And before her eyes flashed again, she left the pharmacy.

She looked down at the bottle of bone strengthening granules that she had grabbed in a hurry, and she was sure that she had really gone in just now.

She checked her little basket again.

The medicines were all there.

So she succeeded in obtaining those medicines.

But why couldn’t she get in last time? Was there any special trigger condition?

And also, she came out before she finished taking the medicine. Was there a time limit?

Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t figure it out for a while, so she simply stopped thinking.

She took out the thermometer and took his temperature.

See, let’s say his fever was 40 degrees.

Su Xiaoxiao injected him with an injection to reduce fever and gave him a skin test for antibiotics.

The skin test responded well. So she hurriedly fed him the medicine.
