Chapter 69 – Farming (1)

When it was time to eat dinner, the people who were gathering to watch the excitement in the field gradually dispersed. Mrs. Qian’s oldest granddaughter and younger grandson came to call her to go back for dinner.

“I will return soon,” Mrs. Qian said to her two grandchildren, and picked up two summer radishes that had been destroyed by Su Cheng from the ground. She peeled the skins and handed those radishes to them.

-Summer radishes

The two nibbled on the radishes while playing by themselves on the ground.

They were attracted by Wei Ting who was sitting on the ridge of the field.

First, it was because they had never seen Wei Thing before. And the second reason was because they had never seen such a good-looking person.

The children’s eyes were straightforward and direct. If they wanted to look more, they would just look at it openly.

Wei Ting didn’t mind either, and let the two children look at him wholeheartedly.

The little girl was called Qiuni. She was almost seven years old. She was shy and well-behaved; and the little boy was called Shuanzi. He was three years old, and was precisely at the age of a troublemaker who didn’t give a damn about rules.

The little Shuanzi hugged Wei Ting’s crutches and played with it. He took the advantage when the adults were not paying attention, then he dragged the crutches and ran away!

-Wooden Crutches

“You little bastard!” Mrs. Qian’s complexion changed drastically. She raised her fist and ran to chase her grandson.

Little Shuanzi dragged the crutches while running around for several ridges between the fields, then he suddenly got into the Old Su’s vegetable field.

Mrs. Fang helped to catch Little Shuanzi, and fiercely yelled, “You are so naughty! If you dare to run away again, I will catch you and sell you!”

Little Shuanzi struggled to jump out of her hand. He didn’t want the crutches anymore, and ran towards Mrs. Qian in fear: “Nai!1 Fang nainai wants to sell me!”

1Nainai (奶奶) : Grandma; Paternal Grandmother; term of address for an elderly woman; a honorific title for a woman of the same generation and age as one’s grandmother.

Mrs. Fang was in a good mood and laughed, then she shouted to the panting Mrs. Qian, “Don’t run anymore, I will bring him to you!”

Then she said to her daughter, “Jinniang, send the crutches over there.”

Su Jinniang picked up the crutches on the ground and looked at the Li family’s vegetable field nearby. Mrs. Fang meant to send those crutches to Mrs. Qian. After all, it was Mrs. Qian’s grandson who caused the mess. So, she should be responsible for returning it.

But somehow, Su Jinniang saw at a glance a charming young man on the ridge between fields.

The charming young man was wearing ordinary clothes for villagers, which was made of inconspicuous materials. However, he sat there with a tall and straight posture, both of his legs were slender and long. And he was exuding a calm but special aura.

His facial features were exquisite and his side face was so perfect. Su Jinniang had never seen such a good-looking man.

It was just that she had no idea why he used the crutches.

“Why are you dazing? Go quickly!” Mrs. Fang urged.

Su Jinniang silently took the crutches and went to the Old Li’s vegetable field. But instead of handing it over to Mrs. Qian, she returned it directly to Wei Ting.

“Thank you.”

Wei Ting thanked her.

The voice was mesmerizing, with some innate distance and coldness.

A gentle breeze blew by, blowing a scent from his body.

He didn’t have the stinky smell of the villagers’ peasant on his body, only a faint scent of medicine.

Was he injured?

Su Jinniang glanced at his legs quietly.

“Jinniang!” Mrs. Qian taught her grandson a lesson and said with a smile, “You are planning to get married, right? I think the number of people who propose a marriage to you have almost broken the threshold of your Old Su’s family!”

This was the big truth. Su Jinniang was the most beautiful and famous girl from all corners of the neighboring villages. There was no man who didn’t want to marry her and bring her to his home.

Su Jinniang was inexplicably a bit embarrassed: “Not, not yet.”

Mrs. Qian said, “Daya is the same age as you, and she is already married!”

Su Pangya and Su Jinniang had the same surname and the same age. One belonged to the bully Su family and the other belonged to the old Su family. So it was inevitable that they would be compared.

However, since childhood, Su Pangya had never won.

The children in the village were only willing to play with Su Jinniang. And Su Pangya had always been jealous and envious.

Later, Su Pangya began to imitate Su Jinniang. Unfortunately, she was fat and ugly. So no matter what she did, they looked different.
