‘Cutting ties with Father Wen’

On the way back home, Si Mingchen drove very slowly.

It was early spring, and the sky was drizzling with fine raindrops. The air carried the scent of soil.

Si Mingchen opened the box, intending to take out a cigar, but considering that he would arrive home soon, he hesitated and put it back.

The bouquet of flowers sat quietly on the passenger seat, when his mobile phone rang.

“Si Si, when are you coming back? Can we have hotpot tonight?”

When he heard Wen Zhi’s voice, Si Mingchen’s voice was mixed with a deliberate low tone, as if he was suppressing something.

“Soon.”

Wen Zhi smiled on the other end of the phone and gave Si Mingchen a kiss: “Be safe.”

When he hung up the phone, Si Mingchen’s heavy heart eased, but he still felt a deep sense of remorse.

This remorse came from his feelings for the dog, and also for Wen Zhi.

As he drove into the courtyard, Si Mingchen caught a glimpse of Wen Zhi sitting in the doorway, waiting with his chin resting on his hand.

When Wen Zhi saw him, he ran over to him and gave him a warm hug.

Si Mingchen hugged him consciously: “It’s so cold outside, why didn’t you wait inside?”

Wen Zhi: “I wanted to see you as soon as possible.”

Wen Zhi’s unabashed sincerity infected Si Ming Chen’s melancholic mood. He ruffled Wen Zhi’s hair and went to the passenger seat to hand him the bouquet of flowers.

Wen Zhi was very surprised: “Why did you buy me flowers all of a sudden?”

Si Mingchen was about to explain when he was interrupted by Wen Zhi.

“Let me guess, is today one of our anniversaries?”

Si Mingchen led him inside: “It’s not an anniversary. I used to buy you flowers when I worked overtime, maybe you don’t remember.”

Wen Zhi was taken aback and clung to Si Ming Chen’s arm, rubbing against it. “So you love me this much?”

Si Mingchen asked in return, “Does buying flowers mean you love someone?”

Wen Zhi was a bit confused, he felt that today, Si Mingchen was not in high spirits.

After he washed his hands, Wen Zhi said, “You’re so tired after working overtime and still find time to coax me because you love me. Would you coax someone else?”

Si Mingchen: “No.”

Wen Zhi: “Then that’s good.”

The steaming seafood hot pot was boiling. After Wen Zhi served Si Ming Chen a bowl of seafood soup, he placed the bouquet of flowers on the side of the dining table.

Si Mingchen did not intend to tell Wen Zhi what he had learned today. After all, Wen Zhi’s initial intention of lying was to prevent Si Mingchen from feeling guilty.

“Si Si, are the rings still with you?”

While blowing on the beef, Wen Zhi suddenly remembered this important matter.

Si Mingchen paused for a moment and replied, “They’re at the office.”

Wen Zhi did not think much about it: “When will you bring it back?”

Si Mingchen: “Immediately.”

He had contacted Jiang Chengshu today, and the two new diamond rings were already being made and should be ready for him tomorrow.

Wen Zhi was in a good mood today. He filmed a biscuit commercial and received a notice for a fashionable evening banquet. He felt that he was one step closer to becoming a top-tier superstar.

“My dad called me and said it’s his birthday tomorrow and he wants me to come home.”

Wen Zhi looked cautiously at Si Mingchen: “Si Si, are you going?”

In fact, when Wen Qishan called Wen Zhi earlier, he clearly stated that Si Mingchen definitely wouldn’t go and so there was no need to invite him. However, Wen Zhi felt that Si Mingchen was their family member, and even if Si Mingchen didn’t want to go, he still needed to inform him.

Si Mingchen handed a red shrimp to Wen Zhi and said, “I can go.”

Wen Zhi immediately smiled and said, “Okay, I’ll arrange it then.”

The next day, Wen Zhi packed the gift he bought for Wen Qishan into the car and went to the Wen family with Si Mingchen.

In fact, Wen Zhi had another purpose today. He wanted to find out why Wen Qishan had that on the phone that day. After all, Wen Qishan’s implication portrayed Si Mingchen as a profit-driven and ungrateful businessman.

Wen’s house is a detached house, not small, but compared to the Si Mansion, it was inferior.

When the servants saw Wen Zhi’s car enter, they hurriedly informed Wen Qishan. Wen Qishan came out and his smiling face immediately turned subtle when he saw Si Mingchen.

Si Mingchen naturally noticed this abnormality, but he didn’t have any other emotions. He simply helped Wen Zhi carry things and walked beside him.

Wen Zhi’s stepmother, Chen Hui, also came out from inside and said enthusiastically, “Xiao Zhi and Mingchen are back.”

Wen Zhi only had a slight memory of Chen Hui. They probably got their marriage certificate when he was in his first year of high school.

“We’re back, Auntie.”

Si Mingchen nodded slightly as a greeting.

In the living room, the food was already prepared. Wen Qishan said with a sarcastic tone, “During my birthday, this busy man Mingchen hardly ever came. Now suddenly he has time.”

Si Mingchen replied, “I’m not busy today.”

Wen Qishan sneered, “Not busy? The projects in Hong Kong and Linshui County have both stopped. CEO Si is indeed not busy.”

The two projects mentioned by Wen Qishan were the two main cooperative projects that Si Mingchen halted when Wen Zhi divorced him. They were also the projects Wen Zhi reminded Si Mingchen to be cautious about regarding Wen Qishan.

Si Mingchen pretended not to hear what Wen Qishan was saying and said indifferently, “Those two projects were not very profitable, so stopping them would indeed save me some effort.”

“You…”

Wen Qishan was so angry that he blew out his beard and glared at Wen Zhi, “Wen Zhi, you come in with me.”

Wen Zhi was a little nervous: “Okay.”

Before going in, Si Mingchen looked more cautious. He reassured him, “Don’t be afraid, your father won’t do anything.”

Wen Zhi nodded and walked into Wen Qishan’s study.

“Look at Si Mingchen’s appearance. He has cut off our family’s future. He shows no remorse at all and doesn’t even care about your dignity. In my opinion, he doesn’t value you at all. You should just divorce.”

Wen Qishan’s office was on the ground floor, and his angry voice could be heard clearly by Si Mingchen and Chen Hui, who were far away in the living room.

Wen Zhi: “I’m not getting a divorce, we’re fine.”

Wen Qishan became increasingly angry: “What’s so good about him? In these four years of marriage, I see that you’re not happy at all. When we cooperate, he doesn’t have the demeanor of a son-in-law at all, behaving like I’m a beggar receiving charity.”

Wen Zhi did not know anything about these things, not to mention the fact that he was now suffering from amnesia.

“But given our family’s status, being able to cooperate with Si Sheng is already considered a great achievement. What kind of attitude do you expect from Si Mingchen? Maybe he had to go against everyone’s opinions and face the pressure to work with you on these projects.”

Wen Zhi has done some research on the current state of the Wen family, and the contrast between when he was in high school is stark. Their stocks are on the verge of collapse, nearing delisting, and their assets have suffered a substantial devaluation, lagging behind even some unlisted small and medium-sized companies.

This statement enraged Wen Qishan so much that he casually grabbed the jade ornament on the table and threw it at the door. With a bang, the ornament broke into pieces.

“After your mother passed away, it was not easy for me to raise you. And here you are, turning against me.”

Si Mingchen heard the sound and rushed in. He saw the shattered jade at the entrance and quickly went to Wen Zhi who was frightened. Sounding alarmed, he said, “Are you hurt?”

Wen Zhi shook his head, “No.”

Si Mingchen clutched Wen Zhi’s hand and looked coldly at Wen Qishan: “If you have any complaints, just come at me, Wen Zhi doesn’t know anything, why do you have to do this?”

Wen Qishan laughed in anger, “I know. For all these years, you never treated me as your father-in-law, and, of course, I never regarded you as my son-in-law either. After all, I only liked that child, Sang Qi.

Si Mingchen’s expression changed instantly, and he took Wen Zhi’s hand with a stronger grip.

Seeing Si Mingchen’s inability to speak, Wen Qishan was able to let out a sigh of relief. The suspension of those two projects had left him with a lot of foreign debts, and if it wasn’t for Sang Qi’s help, the company would have almost gone bankrupt.

At this moment, Wen Zhi spoke up, “Dad, I don’t understand why you implied that day that Si Si had been disloyal and unjust to our family, but from what I know, it’s not true.”

Wen Qishan remained silent, his face grim.

Wen Zhi continued, “At the same time, I don’t understand what you are doing with Sang Qi, but I have nothing to do with him, and I have never liked him.”

Wen Qishan grimaced, “So what?”

Wen Zhi furrowed his brow, feeling deeply saddened.

He couldn’t understand why his father, who had always loved him, had suddenly become like this.

There was no kindness in his words, only selfish interests.

“So, from now on, I will definitely work hard to support you financially, but let’s not continue the cooperation with Si Sheng.”

After saying that, Wen Zhi pulled Si Mingchen away and quickly left.

Behind him, Wen Qishan’s voice was almost roaring.

“Wen Zhi, if you have the guts, don’t ever come back to this house again! Si Mingchen is good, so you can go with him!”

As he got into the car, Wen Zhi’s eyes turned completely red and he burst into tears.

It wasn’t for any other reason; he just found it difficult to accept Wen Qishan’s change.

Si Mingchen took his hand and held him in his arms, “I’m sorry, it’s my fault that the situation has turned out so badly today.”

Wen Zhi shook his head and sobbed softly.

“Your father’s two projects are different from our previous collaborations. A slight misstep could disrupt the entire Si Sheng Group. Moreover, it was you who warned me of this matter,” said Si Mingchen gently, wiping away Wen Zhi’s tears.

Wen Zhi’s eyes brimmed with tears as he said, “Is that so? Am I that clever?”

Si Mingchen gently wiped away his tears, “Yes, that’s why I want to thank you.”

Wen Zhi sniffled and wiped his nose. “I see. My dad has gone too far. How could he endlessly exploit Si Sheng for his own benefit?”

Si Mingchen gently ran his hands along his shoulders and hugged Wen Zhi’s waist, allowing him to rest his head on the nape of his neck.

“Where would you like to go? I don’t have to work today, I’ll accompany you.”

“Anywhere is fine, as long as I’m with you,” Wen Zhi finally smiled.

Si Mingchen: “How about watching a movie and having a meal?”

Wen Zhi: “That sounds great!”
