Ch14 - Conquering The Dependents’ Area

XiaoBai was lying in its cat nest when it heard Cui QiChao’s words. Facing away from him, its entire body stiffened and Cui QiChao could see its ears frozen upright and all its fur tensed.

Cui QiChao saw his cat’s fear and said in a slow tone, “Well, I’ll think about it carefully. Let’s first find out how capable the doctors are in this hospital.”

XiaoBai’s ears drooped down, as if its death sentence had only been postponed.

Cui QiChao sat on the sofa for a while to relax, but XiaoBai couldn’t do the same. With just a few light steps, the cat leaped up to Cui QiChao and stared at him with widened eyes, most of its pupils taking up space. It gave XiaoBai a bright, sweet look as it stared at CuiQiChao and started rubbing its head at him.

At any other given time, XiaoBai would not be so affectionate after training, or even ask Cui QiChao to pet it.

Cui QiChao purposefully maintained his silence for a while and watched this spectacle. Seeing XiaoBai grow more anxious, he reached his hand out and touched its head. “Oh? Why are you acting sweeter than a male cat after sterilization?”

XiaoBai: “…”

Cui QiChao pulled XiaoBai’s cheeks and rubbed its soft face. XiaoBai not only didn’t resist, it even turned its belly up.

Cui QiChao poked XiaoBai’s belly: “Hehe.”

XiaoBai: I feel a strange sense of foreboding.

.

Thanks to the harvest of Cui QiChao’s planted vegetables, he won over the majority of old teachers. These were people who were at the age where they cared greatly about preserving their good health. The chili oil may not have a broad audience, but vegetables were different—especially fresh and delicious ones.

The vegetables planted were even more refreshing than sold out vegetables from the market. They could personally witness its growth and the amount of care Cui QiChao showed them.

Even President Cui didn’t expect his nephew to have established a good friendship with the old teachers who often visited the first canteen until Cui QiChao knocked on his office door again.

In light of his two previous visits, President Cui took the initiative to speak. “QiChao, I’ve already had someone look at whether or not the rooftop can be used. You can’t make a farm up on that plot, but some potted plants are possible…but I don’t think it’s viable because the quantity would be too small.”

“Uncle, mosquito legs are also meat,” Cui QiChao said, “but that’s not what I’m here for. It’s another thing.”

“…” President Cui, “Oh, what is it?”

In his mind, he was thinking, there’s nowhere else to plant crops in CU, right? Unless… he’s thinking about using the plot of land we put aside for the university’s greenification.

Cui QiChao said, “The open space in the dependents’ area is very suitable for growing vegetables.”

President Cui: “…”

Cui QiChao chanted out a series of names, all of which were famous professors in both CU and the entire academic circle.

President Cui: “…”

Cui QiChao continued on peacefully, “However, the first batch of the vegetable supply from these seeds will go to the teachers and their families.” For Cui QiChao, as long as there was no wastage of food, it didn’t matter to him who ate it.

After hearing this sentence, President Cui understood that these people in power probably felt good about his nephew’s vegetables. He said, “Then consult each household. If they don’t have objections, you can plant the crops.”

“Thank you, uncle.” With President Cui’s permission, Cui QiChao did a public opinion survey. This wasn’t something difficult to accomplish, and basically everyone unanimously agreed to his decision.

Some old teachers even said, “I wanted to plant vegetables in these flower beds a few years ago, but then I was rehired and got too busy teaching classes!”

Cui QiChao already had a plan for how to manage the land in the old teachers’ area. Including the land beside the canteen, the crops harvested could also be increased in quantity, so he would make more use of stereo planting.

In fact, the rooftop plants that President Cui had mentioned also belonged to a kind of stereo planting.

Stereo agriculture, also known as layered agriculture, made use of the difference in space and levels and the harvesting gap in time of various crops to support production.

It can also be subdivided. For example, Cui QiChao wanted to put some scaffolding around the canteen, which made greater use of the sunshine, air and other resources in this area. It was a combination of natural and modern farming.

The vegetables planted in the hill in the back were planted according to their heights, and the different crops were planted according to the altitude and the characteristics of the hill.

And what he wanted to accomplish in the old teachers’ area was already something long used in the agriculture of China. He made good use of the space between plants to grow a variety of different crops in the same area, and this technique required a strict selection of crops that were compatible.

Cui QiChao was going to plant corn and isatis root together. Isatis root wasn’t a vegetable, but since he had the blood of the Divine Farmer, it wouldn’t be that difficult to plant it. Not only isatis root, but also ginseng.

In this way, the setup would be able to satisfy his planting desires to the greatest it could be while in this limited space. In the future, when the medicinal materials are collected, they would be distributed as welfare to everyone.

Cui QiChao continued to recruit people in order to be able to successfully expand and keep the farming areas in good condition. He suspected that by the end of all this, there would be more people farming than cooking in the canteen.

Because the corn was going to be interplanted with others, he selected ones that had a growth period of about three to three and a half months.

At the time he was carefully selecting seeds to grow, the merchants eagerly recommended high-yielding varieties to Cui QiChao. “Boss, buy LongGao I2—the highest yield will be more than 30000 catties per hectare! Your farmers will be shocked, okay! There is also LiangYu 99 and LiYu 16, many people plant these!”

Cui QiChao didn’t allow himself to be swayed and buried his focus into choosing. “Thank you. I’ll decide which ones are the best for myself.”

In fact, if this merchant had been to the CU, he would have witnessed the shocking sight of how the crops under CuiQiChao yielded far more than regular crops, without him even deliberately cultivating it that way.

Now, due to the increasingly high demand of vegetables by the students, Cui QiChao began to think about the amount he was sure to need to keep up with them. Was it necessary to improve crops and increase production?

Ever since the beautiful and kind-hearted Boss Cui dug around the holy land of dating, the CU couples had to find another good place for dating. Despite that, the hill was still the most beautiful place in CU to view the sunset, so some couples endured through it and kept going up there to use the remaining trees as props and take pictures.

However, this hobby has recently been destroyed by Cui QiChao.

Students who recently went up to the hill to take pictures of the sunset, or wanted to have an aerial view of the campus found that even the spaces underneath the trees had been claimed. Originally, the vegetable field were planted around the trees and they were still able to take pictures—but now that was also ripped away from them. The couples trembled, “Misters, what are you planting…”

“Ginseng.”

Students: “…”

“You are all university students. Don’t you know ginseng is suitable for planting beneath trees?”

Students: “…”

While it’s true that they are university students, they didn’t have the same hobbies as Cui QiChao!

A post soon appeared in CU’s forum:

Title: AHHHHHHHH, the last piece of holy land has been destroyed by the first canteen!

Contents: Today, I went to the hill at the back to take a picture. As a result, I saw that some people were planting crops under the trees, and they said it was ginseng! It’s said that Beauty Cui of the first canteen ordered not even a tiny bit of land to be wasted!

1F: I’m not surprised at all. Today, some people in our teaching building moved a lot of shelves away. They said that they are going to plant vegetables on the top of the building.

2F: ?? No wait, how would us brothers meet up to fight on the rooftops in the future.

3F: You’re still thinking of meeting up to have a fight? It’d be funny if you got caught by the teaching department and they decided to punish you by having you water plants on the rooftop.

4F: What’s all the buzz about? I heard that even the dependents’ area is not spared. Now we are planting corn and isatis root, and some teachers have decided to help out. When I helped my teacher carry their stuff, I heard that the retired professors were still asking if the work could be contracted to them because they wanted to move their legs.

5F: Yes, I’m more concerned about whether the ginseng will be sold in the canteen after planting?

6F:  +1, I want to eat ginseng. If it’s watched over by Boss Cui, will it be extra delicious and extra beneficial to the body?

7F: I call upon Boss Cui to plant watermelons. Isn’t it good to eat watermelon on the hottest day of summer?

8F: There should definitely be watermelon. That day, I heard someone say that the people from the first canteen wanted to plant some watermelon seeds.

9F: Would you guys mind discussing the topic in the title? I will take the lead in condemning the first canteen!

10F: But if the ginseng is planted for our benefit, I’d feel embarrassed to condemn them.

11F: Yup, the hand that takes the possessions of others is shortened.

12F: The first canteen gives you free chili oil, cheap vegetables and a handsome man who would descend from the heavens for you. What is the 9F upstairs dissatisfied about!!

13F: I’m in a trance, hahaha, I really admire the boss of the first canteen. Everything beneath the trees are planted, and the roof is full. Would you accept it if someone said that your school is the second agricultural university of Nanhai City?

14L: I’ll accept, I’ll accept. I have no problem with Nanhai agricultural CU.

15L: I have only one question. Will the corn be sweet or waxy?

At this moment, the discussion tone of CU’s forum has subtly overlapped with the livestream program’s commentary barrage in the real world.

In the second episode of the program, the audience had all kinds of emotions when they saw the familiar scenes of Cui QiChao continuing to plant and eat. And this time, he didn’t even leave them with a last shred of hope. He directly shooed away the students who wanted to take photos and left lovers with no place to go to. The students could only leave, bearing resentment.

It’s just that this episode featured less of his cute cat, but the audience didn’t know that it was because the LJJ company found out that it was a bug. There are no shepherd cats in this era, so programmers have to repair it urgently, but they haven’t been able to find the root of the problem.

At a loss, they could only cut some clips first, to avoid it being discovered by the audience. Because if that were to be found out, the audience would have thought they were deliberately sending Cui QiChao plug-ins to improve the audience rating.

After the first episode, in order to bring other people to suffer what they experienced, many viewers recommended others to watch this program and recommended this fake amway. They claimed it to be a particularly beautiful campus program, full of youthful atmosphere, the protagonist is also handsome, and had awakened his imperial bloodline.

…One can imagine the question mark on the faces of those who harboured much hope when they actually watched the program.

Where was the beautiful campus life that they claimed existed, and what was this shit?

This poisonous program had used another manner to attract a whole wave of audience. When the second episode was broadcasted, they were punctually in front of their screens before they could complain—everyone realized that it was far less fun to enjoy the program alone, and better to make complaints about it together.

[Is Cui QiChao still human!! He’s growing ginseng!!]

[No, no, he’s a divine farmer.]

[The couples are so pitiful. Cui QiChao doesn’t want to find a girlfriend, and he also doesn’t allow others to fall in love. He possesses the most poisonous emperor heart.]

[I’m so hungry I’m so hungry I’m so hungry I’m so hungry]

[I’m going crazy. Even though he does this, I can’t hate him. What to do. Cui QiChao, please, go date someone!]

[Agree, Cui QiChao is not a human being, but a black-hearted divine farmer!]
