Episode 49 – There’s No Way My Step Sister Would Go Home With Me…..

At 8 o’clock, the karaoke was about to end,  and I dropped each of the girls off at the nearest stations.

I suggested taking them home because of the incident caused by Genpaku, but idol sama and the gyaru firmly declined the offer and said [As expected, Kaizei kun will be late, so you don’t have to get off the train.]. 

As for my step sister, i don’t need to say it, my childhood friend’s house was close to mine, so I could send her home, but it would be after 10:00 p.m. if I wanted to take the other two to each their houses, so I took their word for it.

But today was a day when many things happened.

I saw a pile of love letters addressed to me that I had never received before in my life, Genpaku who I asked for advice on how to deal with a delinquent, tried to betray me, and the 4 most beautiful girls in class took me to karaoke as an apology, such an event happened that I’ve never experienced before.

More importantly, what happened at karaoke is incomprehensible now that I think about it.

All the three girls, except for my step sister, had their own ways of messing with me, which bothered me.

I just had my hair cut, but all the hatred from the girls disappeared as if it were a lie, so I thought that girls are scary.

However, my step sister was just looking at the situation with an uncomfortable expression, which made me sad to think that she consistently hated me.

But when we got home, my step sister followed me as I sent the three of them off.

At first I thought she wanted to go home with her friends, but even on the way back home after dropping off my childhood friend, she would follow me from behind diagonally.

I thought it would be better if the two of us didn’t walk together, so I walked a little faster.  Then, she tried to match my pace. When I pretended to look at the vending machine, she waited for me.

…..? ?

What happened to your spirit the other day? It’s like she’s a cat that you borrowed from your neighbor ! !

For a moment I was confused by the change in my step sister, but then I came up with an answer.

It was the incident with the delinquent.

She was the first to get involved, so she must have been afraid to go home alone at this hour.

“Are you scared?”

I questioned my step sister, who was walking behind me, then she stopped and said [What ! !. My step sister’s pretty face was illuminated by the street lamp as she looked at me in surprise.

“That’s not true ! !”

As she said, my step sister followed me from behind and I wondered about her changes.

My step sister’s tone seems harsh, but as expected, there’s no thorns in it.

I can tell. Even though we’ve only known each other for a short time, I know the barometer of my step sister’s voice because it’s me. 

When she’s really angry, she doesn’t show her emotions and speaks calmly,  but when I make her angry, she gets emotional for some reason. And recently, her angry voice has lost its thorns.

I don’t know if this is because I’ve gotten used to  my step sister or she has gotten used to me.

But it was true that her attitude had changed little by little.

“Hey…….”

As i was confused by the change in my step sister.

My step sister called out to me while she facing forward, 

“Hm? What’s wrong?”

When I replied, my step sister stood still for a while without saying a word. When I stopped to match my step sister’s pace, she looked up as if she was looking at the moon in the darkness.

“……Were you the one who saved me from those delinquents at the entrance ceremony?”

I was speechless when I heard that.

It’s hard for me to say it even when my step sister asked me.

I have no intention of patronizing her, nor do I have any intention to befriend her just like she told me to.

So when I silently listened to her words, my step sister turned around and looked at me with serious eyes. But her eyes look somewhat unsettling.

“…..Wrong.”

I told her a lie that doesn’t need to be told with a serious expression.

I’m sure she won’t  approach me, and I won’t step in any further than I have to.

When my step sister listened to the lie I told her she swallowed her words and muttered […..You’re lying.] while glaring at as usual.

……That’s fine.

You don’t have to force yourself to match her gaze.

I didn’t have the courage to step into the wall she had built.

But a single tear drop overflows from her glaring eyes.

I don’t know what her tears mean. But my step sister continues to talk.

“Why are you lying to me?”

“Because I don’t need to force you to know. I’m just trying to do what you say.”

Nothing has changed for me.

Despite that, my step sister only talked to me because I just had a hair cut, so I’m kinda wary..

However, she was speechless at my words, and  she glared at me as she walked in front of me.

“Then why are you always trying to help me? Today, the other day, and even at the entrance ceremony ! !”

My step sister came to my side while crying and grabbed my uniform. Her hand pulled my uniform and tried to shake it back and forth, but it eventually slipped out of her hand.

“If you were going to do what I told you to do, you should’ve left me alone from the start ! !”

With those last words, she completely loses her strength and slumps to the ground.

“If something happens to you, step father and mother would be sad….”

I said what I should have said to my step sister  in her weakened state. No matter how much my step sister hates me, I am her family. I don’t want to see my family hurt.

You’re tormenting me like that by acting like a nice person…so stop…..I looked miserable because I’ve been hurting you ….”

When my sister-in-law said that, she cried for a while, and I watched her for a while without saying anything.

“I know that I can’t take Sora’s older brother’s place, and I know that you hated me, Sora. But as long as we live together as a family, I don’t want anyone to get hurt.”

I remember that my step father told me once that my step sister had become less honest since her real brother passed away.

I don’t know what kind of guy he was, and I have no way of knowing it. However, I suspect that if he had lived, my step sister would’ve lived a slightly different life.

However, it’s no use thinking about that now.

“Besides, if we’re not family, then it can’t be helped…….”

When I say that to my step sister, she makes a face as if she was saying [Eh?].

I said nothing more than that and let my step sister stand up, then headed toward  my house first.

My step sister was confused when she stood up but she just followed me from behind and didn’t ask me anything.
