Chapter 71.1

A Different Kindness

Whatever the reason behind the male researchers’ obsessions with more defence, what Cheng Zhaoci is making will be useful and practical. If he could make a small, personalised kind of shield with the same sturdiness that could withstand most weaponry, it will be good proof to support his grade S celebrity status.

The President also understands Cheng Zhaoci isn’t interested in science. Then there’s also the fact that his comic has proven quite powerful an influence indeed, and the President was forced to reconsider the value of the cultural entertainment sector. It seems that the effect it has on insectoids, especially young ones, is becoming more pronounced by the year.

This means it’s enough when Cheng Zhaoci has some work to show for himself that solidifies his position, and he can just be a mascot under the limelight with the many previous scary grade S males behind him – as a deterrent against potential grade A male dissidents who were never offered further education or positions in government.

His approval secured, Cheng Zhaoci happily goes to work on his mini shield. Then, his inner eighth-grade self manifesting, he’s gone for a whole new design for his shield’s husk. He plans to make it flashy with images, and the push of the activation button casts a spherical hologram out, glowing, spinning, until it turns into the transparent shield.

And for a logo, Cheng Zhaoci is going to use the image of a pair of pants on the hologram – for ‘BombInMyPants.’

Though would a spherical shield also inconvenience movement? That is the question Cheng Zhaoci realised some ways into the design phase. Then he thought about the sci-fi movies he saw in his past life. Some of those show shields that follow the shape of the user’s body, and would let air through. The kind where the user would forget they had a shield on. That feels much better.

As more and more idle thoughts strike him, his design grows more and more complicated. In the end, looking at the list of requirements he’s come up with, he thinks he’s not exactly optimistic it’d be achievable.

Isn’t this too complicated? And security-wise, this would not exactly be mass-produced, just in case pirates and the like get their hands on it, and become difficult to arrest.

It’d be pretty convenient for shemale soldiers. If it becomes widely available for them, then the shemales can fight even better and be harder to wound.

… Less prone to wounds? Cheng Zhaoci recalls Wei Zhuo’s face and finds a new determination in himself to do it! Fucking hell! He’d be happy to make it even more intricate!

Better that than receiving news of his death on the battlefield. Grade S shemales are strong, but they’d still die. No one knows what might happen on the battlefield, strength is not a guarantee of safety, after all.

In fact, the enemy will be targeting Wei Zhuo even more because of his strength to try to take him down. He must know it himself, too, that he stands out too much.

He also knows there are instances in history where grade S shemales have been surrounded and fought to death. In fact, historically, most grade S insectoids, males and shemales alike, don’t live very long.

Well, it is mostly inter-species violence, because, like a curse, grade S males and shemales often appear in pairs, at a similar age.

And instead of being the perfect fit for one another, they’re more mortal enemies. Before Cheng Zhaoci came along, they’ve always been so. A grade S male doing ridiculous stuff would always be followed by a grade S shemale resisting. And their completely absurd body strength means they can kill grade S males despite their insane protections of themselves. Most often, they’d end up killing each other.

He must arm Wei Zhuo, armed to the teeth! Cheng Zhaoci believes in himself, that he can protect his cijun well.

So Cheng Zhaoci, who was more doing this like a student being forced to do his homework is now more doped on drugs. A drug named a goal and motivation. He will make Wei Zhuo into the one being with the strongest fighting power and the strongest defence in the entire universe!

Even if sometimes he must resort to turtling, if he can outlast every other enemy, then he can be the very best turtle, too! He’d live to tell the tale.

After getting his thoughts in order, Cheng Zhaoci gets to work on the first prototype of his gadget. At the same time, he also gets news that Zhou Luoluo might be asked to participate in a possibly dangerous mission.

After learning the details of that mission, Cheng Zhaoci quickly whips up the first working release candidate that roughly works for him in a month and a half.

Wei Zhuo isn’t aware his xiongzhu is ready to arm him to the teeth, is readying himself for another sortie.

Here, Cheng Zhaoci’s brain proved really useful when they asked him to use his grade S intelligence to work out possible escape routes of the pirates. Not long ago, they were able to positively identify a space buccaneer spaceship which is suspected to hold the entirety of kidnapped males within.

Finally. It was the first time they caught their whiff since they escaped and hid during the last fight.

Wei Zhuo and some other competent officers were handed the task of rescuing all the males safely. They are a team of only ten members, but they’re worried bringing the full brunt of the spaceships there will push the pirates into killing the males entirely.

They are hoping Wei Zhuo could create a miracle by resolving everything without alerting the enemy.

With an injection to alter his appearance, Wei Zhuo and his fellow soldiers will play the part of guards escorting a male on their way elsewhere. Where would that male come from? The pirates would not ask, obviously, or even check him.

The Federation has approved of the transfer of one male studying in the male academy who volunteered himself. Wei Zhuo is also tasked with protecting his safety.

Speaking of, the Federation has already made public the fact that the political machine is mostly comprised of males, while the First Research Institute is even male-only. Also, the President is actually not a puppet of the Chairman of Chief Command, but instead, the President’s own cijun.

Meanwhile, in this mission, they are not sure how many of the forty-odd males kidnapped are still alive, but failure is not an option in this mission. They have to know exactly what happened to them and rescue those who are still alive, and break the news to the public, so they can grieve and recoup.

Though Wei Zhuo is certainly surprised to see the male who is to work as their ‘kidnapee’ being someone he knows well.

Obviously, the Federation wouldn’t be insane enough to send Cheng Zhaoci out, because he’s far too well-known, and it’s going to cause an uproar on both ends. Even Jin Yue might go mad and pay a visit to this particular spaceship in that case.

Still, he wasn’t expecting to see Zhou Luoluo.
