Chapter 74

Chapter 74 - Defect

Yoonshin’s face grew dark when he glanced at the calendar on his desk. Tomorrow was the blind date.

He wondered what it would have been like if he hadn’t known anything. If he had continued to believe that his sister was still having a peaceful married life, he would have accepted his meeting with a lighter heart. After the first meeting, if he felt that it was a good connection, he would marry her, or if not, he would politely apologize and split up.

But that wasn’t the case anymore. Seeing that his sister asked him to do this, she was dealing with her issues with fortitude, but she seemed to be backed into a corner. If this marriage went badly, Yoonshin couldn’t begin to imagine how disadvantaged his sister would be. He felt anxious enough to make him want to deal with a passionate first love somewhere.

That was why he was grasping at straws.

“I don’t want my life to have any defects.”

“I get madder the more I think of it,” Yoonshin muttered.

Yoonshin was an accomplice by closing his eyes before kissing, but Sehun initiated it. Yoonshin was upset that Sehun tried to dryly dump all the blame despite remembering everything.

Of course, Sehun was free to reach out to Yoonshin or not. Yoonshin respected other people’s autonomy. However, if Sehun was going to turn his back when at a critical point and continue to confuse Yoonshin, that was clearly Sehun’s negligence. When Sehun, who never opened even a hair’s breadth of his heart to anyone, kept opening the invisible room for possibilities, Yoonshin started to want to rely on him when he was feeling anxious.

Yoonshin took a deep breath to empty his thoughts and fixed his gaze on the laptop monitor. While downloading documents that he needed from the firm’s intranet, the personnel directory caught his eyes. When he searched up Sehun, a list of Sehun’s academic background, law associations and boards, his case experiences, and specialty areas popped up.

‘Corporate mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, private investments, securities regulations.’ The most recent items on the list were related to his external legal advisor work. However, when he scrolled further down, there were some family matters, which Yoonshin didn’t expect. They must have been the pro bono cases that Sehun mentioned at one point.

“He also did a guardianship case. Wills, legal portions, division of estates…” Yoonshin mumbled out loud.

Quite surprisingly, he also worked on matters on the division of property after divorce and lawsuits on parental rights. However, they were all long in the past. Even if Sehun took on Ikyung’s divorce matter, he would most likely represent his brother-in-law.

If Yoonshin met Sehun in court, Yoonshin wasn’t confident that he would win. Cracking a rock with an egg could be easier.

Just because his sister told him to stay put didn’t mean that Yoonshin could take his hands off the matter. He needed to do something on his end. But since he didn’t know what the situation was like, his starting point was vague. He was met with an obstacle at the first step.

‘Sehun Kang surely wouldn’t share his informants since that’s a valuable resource,’ Yoonshin thought.

Strict confidentiality meant that it needed to be kept that way. Sehun used some illegal routes contrary to a lawyer’s professional ethics since he didn’t even show his informants to Mihee. Yoonshin couldn’t just go and ask Sehun to look into his sister’s domestic situation. Yoonshin would need to offer a proportionate compensation or show his cards to Sehun.

‘Maybe I could just be honest and beg for help,’ Yoonshin thought, then he recalled the other’s haughty and self-righteous gaze and abandoned the thought. “Like he would help at all.”

No matter how talented a lawyer Sehun was, it was a huge venture to turn a conglomerate like Soohan against him. In particular, since the firm was in a close relationship with Soohan, that move would negatively impact the firm.
