Although the song of the birds was beautiful, the survivors were terrified as they did not know if the song was some kind of signal for the survivors to be killed.

The government had made the survivors believe that Luis was a ruthless monster who committed genocide for fun so after the fall of the government these survivors were defenseless…..

Fear is the biggest obstacle to growth, but at the same time, it is the best motivation to move forward. As the survivors fell into despair, they ignored all rationality and like mad beasts began to use their bare hands, feet, and teeth to attack the mutated animals.
