Chapter 38 Part 2

The Eldest Princess was relieved, but she didn’t know that her daughter was already plotting her revenge. When the banquet was halfway through, she pretended to accidentally spill a cup of tea on Xiao Youning, and then insisted on accompanying her to change her clothes during the confusion.

Xiao Youning knew with one look what Huijing was planning. She avoided the servant girl inside the parked carriage. “It’s hot and it will dry soon. The County Princess does not need to be nervous.”

So she wasn’t fooled. Huijing was so angry that ground her teeth. She couldn’t drag Xiao Youning away by force, so she had to go back angrily. But after she sat down, she lowered her head and smiled ruthlessly.

After three rounds of wine and wrapping up the meal, the palace banquet was drawing to a close. Xiao Youning was relieved to see that Huijing was quiet and finally stopped with the tricks. When the Empress said that it was time to go back, Huijing suddenly whispered, “What is this?”

She showed the note she had to the Empress: “Empress, this… how can it be?!”

The Empress looked down at the note. Her complexion changed and she looked up at Xiao Youning.

At this moment, Xiao Youning knew that she couldn’t escape from whatever plot Huijing came up with again!

When the Eldest Princess saw the way her daughter was acting, she knew that she was trying to incite trouble again. She rushed to see what her daughter had done. The note read: Ningning, wait for me after the banquet. It was signed with the “Wu”1 character.

A man’s handwriting, a man’s name. Is this a private meeting with a man in the palace?!

" "

The Eldest Princess was frightened by the huge offense that her daughter placed on Xiao Youning. She resisted the urge to drag her daughter away out of fear of being seen through by the Empress.

The Empress looked away from Xiao Youning and crumbled the note. She resumed smiling. “I don’t know who is being naughty and playing a funny joke like a child. Minyue, take these young ladies to the palace gate.”

Huijing saw how the Empress ignored it and didn’t have the confidence to dare to glare at her. Instead, she blurted out anxiously,  “Imperial Aunt, she has committed a capital offense!”

With that, she pointed at Xiao Youning.

Everyone was astonished and stared at Xiao Youning, making her the center of attention. The Empress did not expect Huijing to be so rash. At first, she was pale but after thinking about it, she realized it was not right. Her eyes sank and she said, “General Xiao’s case has not been decided. Where has an offense been committed? And what does it have to do with this young lady’s family?”

Huijing did not expect the Empress to protect Xiao Youning to such an extent. She was so angry that her eyes became red. She wanted to say more when she was dragged away by the Eldest Princess.

“We will respectfully take leave, Sister-in-law.” The Eldest Princess wanted to leave the Empress right now so that her daughter’s trick would be suppressed.

In the end, the Emperor came in at the sound of the chanting and the footsteps of the palace servants and guards. Everyone kneeled to welcome him.

After Xiao Youning kowtowed, she got up and looked around. She saw Ye Shen right next to the Emperor.

He was the same as before: in Daoist robes, looking indifferent, and standing on one side like a jade tree.

“What is Your Majesty doing here?” The Empress came forward after being exempted from the bowing. Huijing wanted to speak up when she saw her uncle. However, her mother twisted her wrist. “If you dare, then you can forget about your marriage to the Li Family! If you want to die, just go die!”

Upon being threatened by her mother, Huijing went cold all over. She didn’t understand why everyone was protecting Xiao Youning today, and her eyes started tearing up.

The Emperor said to the Empress, “A servant was found sneaking around just now. The man was captured and confessed something. Zhen was worried about you here, and came to see you.”

As soon as these words were spoken, the Eldest Princess’s mind went blank. What’s more, the Emperor intentionally looked at her and her daughter. The displeasure in his eyes could not have been more obvious.

The Empress followed the Emperor’s gaze to them. She immediately understood what he meant. She followed the Emperor’s intentions and said, “Chenqie2 is all right, Your Majesty is too nervous.”

The Emperor acknowledged her response. Mingyue was given a signal by the Empress again and she quickly led the noble young ladies away.

The Eldest Princess also wanted to leave but was stopped by the Emperor. The bad feeling she had was basically becoming definite. Her legs were shaking. This daughter is really getting worse and worse. She is jealous because of a man and dares to play tricks in the palace!

She really wanted to hand Xiao Youning a serious crime of a dirty relationship in the palace, but now I have to take my daughter’s place!

The Eldest Princess regretted allowing her daughter into the palace to make trouble, and for a moment, a cold sweat dripped down her chin.

Huijing also realized that something wasn’t right. As soon as she looked up, she saw Ye Shen staring at her with piercing eyes. He waited until the noble ladies left but did not care for the imperial concubines still present before he clapped his hands. A servant who was beaten and covered with blood was dragged over.

The blood dripped on the ground, one drop at a time.
