Chapter 5 Part 2

They followed the robust man when the carriage entered the village. The man turned towards the house and yelled for Liu Er.

A young man ran out of the house. Xiao Youning got out of the car at this time, and the robust man told the guard that they would stay with the Liu Er family tonight.

“His brother-in-law’s family all moved to the county town. They left behind a courtyard. Today, there are other people staying there, but there are also many empty rooms to stay in.”

Liu Er had tanned skin. He was not very tall, but he looked strong at first glance. The corners of his mouth were pulled into a smile. When he looked at Xiao Youning, his eyes stayed on her for a long time.

Xiao Youning stood behind Yuan Guo. She was uncomfortable with that kind of exposed and inquisitive eyes, and lowered her head.

From the moment they entered the village, she found that all the men she saw were young people and about the same age as these two villagers. As for the others… Xiao Youning used the corners of her eyes to look around and realized that she did not see anyone else.

When they heard movements and curiously looked around, they only saw men. However, she could faintly hear the sound of children crying and the coaxing voices of the women. It must be that the women were all at home.

When Xiao Youning had secretly looked around, the guard had spoken to Liu Er and followed him to the courtyard next door. Yuan Guo hurried to pull her and keep up with them.

As Liu Er walked, he said, “What a coincidence today. Recently, there have been more refugees. It has not been peaceful, and fewer people are passing by. Come on, that is…”

The party was led into the fenced courtyard and went towards the three rooms built in the east.

Liu er began to chatter away again, “The main room was requested by the Daoist Priest that came first. You will have to put up with this room. There is bedding and everything else you need inside.”

Daoist Priest?

Xiao Youning and Yuan Guo paused and looked towards the main room.

Perhaps the people over there heard them, so one of them opened the window and revealed a face that Yuan Guo couldn’t be more familiar with!

“Isn’t that the one you saw at the relay station…” That rude servant!

Yuan Guo’s eyes widened and whispered to Xiao Youning.

Xiao Youning felt that it was a little too amazing. They did not meet again along the way, and unexpectedly met again here.

Jian Yin clearly saw them and very quickly closed the window again. His expression was very cold.

Yuan Guo saw his cold face and silently rolled her eyes. This is some bullshit fate.

When the master and servant entered the room, Jian Yin was already gloomily talking to Ye Shen. “Fifth Master, it’s a coincidence that Miss Xiao has come here to stay the night. Are the guards from the Xiao Family using their eyes to vent1?”

Ye Shen held a string of blood-red beads in his hand and did not raise his eyes. “Go brew another pot of tea again.”

Jian Yin coughed and picked up the kettle to go out and get water.

His Fifth Master still didn’t like the taste of the tea he had just brewed.

In the other room, Xiao Youning had just sat down when she heard Liu Er loudly greet someone when he was about to leave. “Where are you going? It’s getting dark soon. It’s not easy to walk around the village.”

“I’m going to draw water to fill the kettle.”

The other person answered.

Yuan Guo recognized Jian Yin’s voice and secretly looked out through the cracks of the window.

Liu Er stared at the kettle in Jian Yin’s hand. “Take the bucket. How much water can you draw?”

Jian Yin didn’t say anything and walked away.

“What a strange person,” Yuan Guo mumbled to herself. She walked back to Xiao Youning and said, “Young Miss, this place is a little strange, but Liu Er and the other look like farmers.”

Even though they were strong, their gait was not similar to a martial arts practitioner.

Xiao Youning had said something to her when they were in the carriage, so she was being vigilant the entire time.

Xiao Youning shook her head. “I don’t know, but it doesn’t feel right.”

When she spoke, Yuan Gup detected movement outside and immediately went to the window. She saw Guard Xie leaving.

Yuan Guo opened the window and said, “Guard Xie, can I trouble you to get some water?”

Guard Xie paused and pointed back to the room. “You tell them. I’m going to take the horses outside to feed them.”

The seated Xiao Youning immediately looked up. There was a surge of emotion in the depths of her eyes.

Yuan Guo did realize there was something abnormal with her. She told her, “Young Miss, I will go next door and talk to them. Then, I will ask them what we will be eating for dinner.”

Less than a shichen later, Liu Er brought a woman over to deliver food. She put the food down on Xiao Youning’s table. There were also some scrambled eggs.

“This young man must put up with this food. There is nothing good to eat in our poor family.” Liu Er pushed the egg towards her. Xiao Youning looked up and nodded at him.

She saw that Liu Er was smiling until his eyes were squinting and lowered her eyes uncomfortably. The woman was putting a bowl and a pair of chopsticks down. Somehow, her hands kept shaking, and she almost couldn’t hold them.

“You’re so clumsy!”
