Second Marriage

Chapter 56.1

“Li Qingzhi! You come out here!” Huijing went crazy after learning that her mother was entering the palace. She rushed to the study in the front courtyard.

The study had always been used by Assistant Minister Li. Li Qingzhi was really disgusted by the Eldest Princess and Huijing, in order to avoid everything he went there, and his father did not stop him.

Huijing rushed to the door. He was fast asleep. When he heard the pounding at the door, he turned over and didn’t want to bother with her.

The voice outside did not stop, but became more urgent. Each pound felt like a knock on his forehead, making his temples throb.

Li Qingzhi shouted to stop and sat up from the bed at once. He could no longer contain his temper, and angrily opened the door.

The handsome young man suddenly appeared. His face was shrouded in dark clouds like a rainy day.

When Huijing saw him open the door, she froze for a moment. She couldn’t speak, and what she wanted to say disappeared without a trace.

“What can I do for our County Princess?” He grimly smiled and looked sarcastically at his so-called wife.

“Wh-what do you mean?” Huijing collected herself from his taunt. As soon as she opened her mouth to retort, Li Qingzhi smiled again, and spoke indifferently and cruelly, “What is it? Did those pretty performers not satisfy you? You’ve come knocking on my door as soon as you came back, but it’s a pity that I am not one of those performers. I only accept silver, regardless of the stench of its owner.”

Huijing, who had never been spoken to in such a foul way, felt so humiliated that she took a few steps back. She misstepped and nearly fell down the steps. Fortunately, the servant girl next to her supported her quickly.

The memory of the kind and elegant gentleman whose smile was warmer than the sun shattered in front of her eyes. She was only left with a young man who looked at her with hatred, and his tongue seemed to embody a serpent’s tongue that was dipped in venom. It felt unfamiliar and frightening; she was unable to stop trembling.

Was this the husband she tried every possible way to marry?

Huijing shook like a flower bud facing a storm. Her face was whiter than paper, and the tears rolled down from her eyes uncontrollably.

“Is this how I compare to Xiao Youning?”

“Yes. You don’t even deserve to mention her, so how can you even be compared to her?”

Li Qingzhi was crueler than she thought.

She really gave him the invitation to insult her. Huijing burst into tears. Li Qingzhi didn’t bother to look at her any more. He turned around and went back into the room. The young servant, who served his father, quickly arrived in a panic and exclaimed, “Second Young Master, Master said that he wants you and Second Daughter-in-law to go into the palace with him.”

Huijing covered her face since someone saw her in an embarrassing situation. She wanted to run away. After only a few steps, her arm was grabbed. She vaguely recognized Li Qingzhi through her misty eyes. Hope still rose in her heart.

In the end, he shattered her hope into pieces again. “Why are you running? Just wait until we are in front of His Majesty, I would rather not have an official career than continue this marriage with you.”

“I’m not going!”

As Huijing struggled, Li Qingzhi pulled her by the arm and dragged her out.

The servants of the Eldest Princess Residence rushed to save their master at once. However, they were all kicked away by Li Qingzhi. The normally gentle man had become crude and violent at this time. The servants could only watch helplessly as their master was dragged off and her embroidered shoes fell.

Inside the palace, the Eldest Princess was kneeling in front of the Emperor’s study table. She looked dispirited, and the cold sweat on her forehead dripped down from her chin to her dress, dyeing the cloth a darker color from the rest of her outfit.

The Emperor tapped his fingers impatiently on the table with an unhappy look on his face. The palace servant next to him sent the servants out once more to see if the Li Family had arrived.

It was not easy to wait for the family to come, and the Emperor’s patience was running thin. As soon as Assistant Minister Li started to kneel, he raised his hand to stop it. He did not give them a chance to speak as he swiftly said, “This matter will come to an end. It has gone so far that it involves the Imperial Court now. You, a fourth rank official, want to resign because you did not control the rear courtyard well, which will mean you lose your honor as a cabinet minister. To do it like this for peace and harmony, zhen is very disappointed.”

The emperor pointed at the Eldest Princess. Achieving peace and harmony was related to her title.

“As a di imperial princess, you have acted shamefully with intolerance and malevolence. You conspired with your newly married daughter to put pressure on her husband’s family and challenged her husband’s dignity. It made every person under the heavens believe that the imperial family does not know how to distinguish right from wrong. It was too arrogant and domineering! You are damaging the reputation of all the princesses and what the people will think of them when they marry!”
