If Sheena is Emilia, then what was her purpose of coming to the temple? Is it possible that she doesn’t want to give up the seat of becoming a saint candidate, and is trying to find a way to somehow get closer to the selection? Or does she have a completely different purpose? Why did she change to look like Cecil in the first place?

     ‘It’s still unknown.’

After lunch, Liz turned at the corner of the corridor, she had a weird feeling. Keefa was standing in front of her room door, trying to knock on it. He stopped as if sensing her presence, he turned towards her direction. Their eyes met.

Keefa’s face immediately clouded. He realized that her was being distanced, his cheeks shadowed as he was to blame himself.

     ‘No.’

Liz warned herself. This cloud of emotions are not Keefa’s fault.

     “Come in.”

When Keefa stepped into the room, the Holy Dragon on the bed screamed, “Kyu!”

“…Are you talking in your sleep?”

The dragon is taking a nap in the middle of the bed with its mouth wide open. It spreads its wings out and opens and closes its mouth many times after a while. The animal-loving prince smiled, “It seems to have gotten a bit round.”

     Yes.

“But the round Holy dragon is also cute”

Liz understood in a moment the difference between the person whose head was kicked and the person who wasn’t kicked.

Keefa sat down on the sofa, in a firm tone he said, “It’s surprising—her identity is certain. The others have testified that from a very young age, she had been in the monastery all the way to Colorado. Sheena grew up in the Blyde monastery which also served as a hospital where she gained the knowledge about medicinal herbs, healing magic, and nursing. When I showed a portrait of her, it was confirmed that she’s Sheena Blyde.”

That’s…so Sheena, who has Cecil’s face, is a real person?

Liz was shocked, her hands clenched on her knees, “I’ve said before that I have a strange power, right? That’s why I think Sheena is a different person and changed her face to look like Cecil.”

Keefa was shocked, he looked like he was hit on the head with something hard.

“Changed face? How did you —”

“I still don’t know that yet.”

“Who’s the other person? Do you have any idea?”

“I am not sure of that person yet, they ought not to know Cecil. I asked Lloyd to investigate and he has been making inquiries, I’ll get back to you the details after he has been answered.”

     “—why Lloyd, not me?”

Liz didn’t get to respond since she expected to be asked about the incident and Sheena. As for Keefa, he was surprised by the words he had uttered, his eyes looked distracted, he awkwardly looked away from her.

“Only Lloyd here knows the other man in fact—”

     “Yes, I understand. I’m sorry.”

The rapid tone of his voice seemed to echo Liz’s frustrations, she was confused by the intensity of such unexpected feelings she felt when she’d unknowingly brought personal matters into her life.

An awkward air flowed around them. Eventually Keefa started in a low voice, “To change her face to look like Cecil means that they knew her five hundred years ago. What do you mean by that?”

“I don’t know.” Liz shook her head. There are still things that she couldn’t grasp and understand. She believes that Emilia doesn’t know Cecil. For many years she has been with Emilia in her hometown, not once did she ever feel anything that connected her in her previous life. So, rather than Emilia —

“The Duke of Igner?” Keefa muttered as if he had read Liz’s thoughts.

“I told you before. When the duke was in front of me, I saw scenes of the past flash before me.” Liz nodded, again.

Keefa’s brows were drawn up, his hand was covering his mouth as he thought hard.

“It is certain that the duke  had been looking into the Howard family in detail. But no matter how much I looked into it, I could not find any connection between the Igner and Howard families. However, if the Duke was someone who had involved himself with Cecil in the past, then that would explain why he had been looking into the Howard family—”

The temperature around them seemed to have sharply dropped.

There is no evidence. There’s no certainty that Sheena and Emilia are the same person. Still, a cold feeling ran down her spine. It’s like a spider’s web.The image of the spider’s web appeared before her again. She was alone, tied up. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t escape.

     Liz shuddered.

“I’m glad that Liz is here. If I didn’t know that you’re the reincarnation of Cecil, I wouldn’t have the confidence to be calm in front of her.” Keefa murmured.

""

She stared at him seriously. His lips were pursed, he looked quite troubled. Though, like Lloyd, he believed in her intuition which seemed impossible. Even if Sheena turns out to be real, it doesn’t change.

Like Eugene in their previous life, Keefa sincerely trusts Liz.

A warm feeling went down her throat. In a very small voice she said, “together.”

     “What?”

“When I think about it, it’s the same with Eugene from the previous life.”

“I know it, too.” Keefa’s sincerity when he’s trying to find out the truth together with her and the sincerity of Cecil in last life shows into Liz too.

     “—yes.”

The firm look on Keefa’s eyes loosened.

“In conclusion, Emilia has been in the monastery all this time. ” Lloyd said.

That’s stupid. Liz was appalled in the dim room between the candlesticks.

“I sent a letter to the Head of the Monastery who was in charge of Emilia, and I received his reply.”

“Emilia is certainly there. Sometimes she’d show an unsatisfied face, but she does her job properly every day.The day of rehabilitation is near. She’s never left the grounds of the monastery, not to mention to the Colorado region. I’m sorry, but this time, I’m afraid you’re wrong. Sheena’s not Emilia.”

Liz felt her feet crumble, she collapsed on the floor with a clatter.

She clenched her teeth and frantically tried to wrack her brain for anything she had missed. It was a bit of a shock to her, but then she felt something at the corner of her mind.

     ‘Letter……’

Yes, it’s a letter. Of course, the head of the monastery has no reason to lie. But, in her previous life, both  Cecil and Eugene were deceived by the lie which the butler of the Howard family had written in the letter. If she had doubted and felt that something was suspicious at that time, then her past life would’ve changed. When she found out about the truth, she vowed that she’d never make the same mistake again.

Liz leaned forward, “You just exchanged letters and this is just his reply, right? You didn’t actually meet and ask him?”

“Yes.”  Lloyd frowned, he understood what Liz was trying to say.

“There’s no way that the letter is a lie, is it? You’re in doubt, but there’s also a seal and the signature of the head, and there’s no reason for him to lie.”

     “I know that.”

Lloyd just sighed on Liz’s response, “All right. There is a priest heading for there tomorrow, I’ll stop by there and to confirm whether she’s really there or not. But it will take time.”

“Thank you. Please hurry as soon as possible.”

His face scrunched up, frowning, “—quite cold and surly, and yet you’re becoming more incredulous. What about as a candidate for the next saint?” he grumbled.

Liz ignored him and left the room.

* * * * *

Emilia Kafen sat by the window, gazing at the green courtyard in the temple. The vast, wide lawn had plenty of sunshine shining on it, it was somewhat similar to the front yard of the house she used to live in.

     ‘I remember’

—”Emilia. I’ve come to pick you up. The head of the Igner family wants to see you.”

Emilia left the monastery with the servant of Duke Igner. She went to the secluded mansion in the mountains of Zac region, the eastern part of Astoria. It’s said that it’s one of the residences of the duke, despite its size, there were only a few servants in it.

Emilia, who was admitted into the luxurious sitting-room, met the duke for the first time, “Nice to meet you, Emilia. I know you very well.”

Her smiling face is smiling brightly, but Emilia has no doubt.

     “Why me?”

“Do you know Liz Stefan? She seems to have risen as the leading candidate for the next holy saint. There’s also information that Prince Keefa is very interested in Liz.”

     ‘That’s a lie…’

All the blood in her body felt like it had dropped to her feet all at once. Her blood vessels almost burst from her anger and frustration.

“It’s strange. You were supposed to be in the temple right now. However, Liz took away all what you would have had, whether it was the seat of candidacy or perhaps the throne as crown princess.”

That’s right. Emilia clenched her hands tightly beside her. Everything that Liz is getting right now was supposed to be hers.

The Duke grinned in satisfaction as he watched Emilia tremble in rage.

“I have a proposal for you. If you do what I say, you may get back all what Liz has taken from you. Though, it’s impossible for you to be the next saint of this country, but its possible for you to be respected and called a saint in a different way. Remove Liz as the candidate for the next saint. It’s easy. If you’re able to do that, you’ll no longer live as a former poor village girl and—” the duke let out a small laugh, “you can be the next Crown Princess. And eventually be the queen of this country when you marry Prince Keefa. What do you think?”

Emilia was dumbfounded. It was like a dream come true for her. There’s no doubt that she’d have any objection, her heart danced at the thought of it. She thought back to Liz with hatred. She’ll do anything for that hateful albino to be incapable of taking anything away from her, she’ll even sell her soul.

With satisfaction, the duke looked at Emilia, whose black eyes had a fierce color swirling in them, he was pleased with her reaction.

“Then, let us begin by having the knowledge of healing magic and medicinal herbs in our minds.”
