Starting Life as a Baron

Chapter 5: I Can Create Miracles!

Alan’s heart began to race. He was about to see his first Nature Spirit! He had a guess on what had happened here. Last night was when he had activated the System and had gained his first mission. The task’s reward also had to do with a Nature Spirit. It seemed that the moment the System released the task, it began to use some unknown power to affect everything around it. Alan would tour Rose to find a beautiful Nature Spirit born somewhere.

“Well, I see. What is your name?” Alan asked.

After having secretly guessed the problem, he calmly nodded and signaled that he knew Rose’s situation. At the same time, he asked the name of the old man in front of him.

“My name is Toke,” The old man said respectfully. He lowered his head, not daring to look up at Alan.

“Very well, Old Toke.  Do not worry. This year’s roses will not be a problem. Not only will it be okay, but a huge surprise is waiting for us. That is the gift the gods have sent to me,” Alan replied.

Alan smiled slightly and showed confidence and sunshine.

“What? God’s gift?”

Old Toke was taken aback for a moment. He could not help but raise his head and peer at the noble son in front of him. How can this noble understand that Rose was in an unprecedented crisis? And he says the gods have a gift for him?

“Old Toke, inform all of the people in Rose to pay close attention to their fields and wait for the miracle to happen. If nothing happens, then I will be responsible for Rose’s expenses for the next year!” Alan declared, then smiled mysteriously and left without another word with Marco and his soldiers.

Looking at Alan’s back, Old Toke was silent for a while and then told Alan’s words to his family. After all, Alan was their lord, and they must obey their Lord.

Soon, Alan’s words had spread to every household. For a while, many townspeople felt contempt for their new lord. They thought he was just another person who only knew how to talk. This would not be the first time something like this had happened. Nobles did not have real farming knowledge, but this lord said he would be responsible for their expenses. They did not know whether this was true or not.

The townspeople had different opinions but obeyed Alan’s orders. While they observed the fields, Alan rode his horse to the edge of the town and carefully looked everywhere. It was very barren and backward, but all of this was nothing. He was a traveler with a System. He was confident he could change this place.

“My lord, what did you mean by the gift of the Gods? Also, I think the rest of the roses are about to wither. You also said you would be responsible for the expenses of the entirety of Rose. That is a lot of money!”

Marco did not understand Alan’s behavior. Was it possible that he was a fool?

Alan smiled slightly. His long golden hair appeared to be glowing from the sun. His deep blue eyes were full of confidence and pride, which was completely different from the boy who was sitting in the carriage yesterday with a pale and sickly face. It was as if he had been reborn. Marco was attracted to Alan’s self-confidence. Alan rode on and looked at the blue sea not that far away.

“Marco, do you believe in miracles?” Alan asked with a hint of pride in his clear voice.

“Miracles?” Marco shook his head. “As a knight, I only believe in the sword in my hand and the rules I follow.”

Alan nodded when he heard his words, and looked at Marco.

“Very well. You are an excellent knight, but from today on, you can trust me. I can create miracles!”

Ding!

“Congratulations to the host for completing the task. You get one hundred experience points and a Rose Nature Spirit!”

A familiar reminder sounded in Alan’s mind. Soon, many voices were heard all over Rose.

“Lord Baron! Lord Baron!”

“Gosh, incredible. It really is incredible!”

“No, it’s a miracle. It’s a gift from the gods. It is the arrival of the lord that allows the gods to open their eyes on this poor and suffering land!”

All of the villagers shouted these comments. Old Toke rushed to Alan with excitement and was blocked by a few elite soldiers. He panted quickly with sweat on his forehead that showed his strenuous exercise. He knelt on the ground before Alan.

“Lord Baron! It’s just like you said, it’s a gift from the Gods!” Old Toke said in awe.

“Okay, Old Toke. I already know. Let us talk, where is my Nature Spirit?”

What?! Marco had a look of surprise. A Nature Spirit?

“In the fields by Quill’s house!” Toke said excitedly. “Not one of us dared to come forward. Please come. This is a gift from the Gods!”
