Chapter 9- Lao Jiang

The dark-skinned imperial guard frowned, the time he spent with Ah Chou on this journey was not short. He often asked her to do laundry and cooking, so it was inevitable that he had a good impression of her, not to mention, they had to rely on Ah Chou to save their lives. So naturally, he didn’t want Ah Chou to suffer too much but just as the dark-skinned imperial guard was about to bargain with Lao Jiang, the fair-skinned guard secretly pinched his hand so he immediately fell into silence.

“What you say, when have a man ever washed and scrubbed?” The fair-skinned imperial guard chuckle at Lao Jiang as he patted his shoulder and added. “We haven’t seen each other for a long time, Lao Jiang. Let’s have a good drink later.”

“It is as I said, tonight, no one can go with drinking a few bottles of alcohol!” Lao Jiang laughed and pointed to the carriage as he said with a wicked smile. “Hurry up and send the bride to the bridal chamber, so we can go down the mountain and drink.”

The dark-skinned imperial guard walked over, opened the carriage curtain, and said to Ah Chou in a deep voice, “Come down.”

Ah Chou supported herself with the carriage to jump down but her body swayed and was about to fall down but the dark-skinned face guard quickly helped her up, Ah Chou hurriedly nodded in thanks.

It was too dark outside, and apart from the three blurry figures in front of her, she couldn’t see anything, and this made her very nervous and afraid. Lowering her head she bit her lips, knowing she didn’t know what was waiting for her next. She was flustered, after hearing a sound of flint, and a burst of flame lit up and illuminating the muddy ground in front of her, and saw her embroidered shoes trapped in the mud.

These were Miss Duan’s shoes. These shoes of a noblewoman were small since they don’t usually come out of their manor and were not used to walking compared to big feet. She wore her own tattered shoes all the way, but this afternoon the fair-skinned imperial guard forced her to change them, saying where could she some bride wearing tattered shoes with exposed toes?

Her feet hurt so badly that she almost fell when she got out of the carriage just now.

“Let me see how a noblewoman from the capital is really a national beauty.” Lao Jiang said, looking like a hooligan while holding a torch in front of Ah Chou’s face.

The torch was too close that Ah Chou felt like her face was about to burn, while the hair on her forehead was burnt emitting a pungent burning smell. The terrifying experience of being surrounded by the sea of fire once came to mind and made Ah Chou retreat in fear, but since her shoes didn’t fit properly, she instead fell into the muddy water with a “flop”.

“Tsk, tsk, I thought it was some kind of stunning beauty, but just this.” Lao Jiang looked at Ah Chou’s frightened appearance and seemed to be very satisfied, he took back the torch, turned around, and stuck the torch on the door ring behind him, he then turned back to look at Ah Chou condescendingly, “You are a bride, but in all honesty you are a slave girl, from now on the paralyzed man inside is your master, serve your master well, if your master dies early then so does you, got it?”

Half of Ah Chou’s body was soaked in muddy water. She awkwardly got up and nodded her head as her whole body trembled and was too scared to speak.

Lao Jiang seemed satisfied with Ah Chou’s reaction, and immediately pushed open the door to the room behind him and nudged Ah Chou, “Go in.”

The doorway was pitch dark, and only the vague outline of the house could be seen not far away. It seemed that there was also a kitchen. Ah Chou nervously licked her lips and wanted to ask where she should live, but looking at Lao Jiang’s face, she dared not ask.
