Ji He didn’t loosen the rope that he had used to bind Wang Xuan’s hands. Instead he just dragged him along by the long segment of rope and continued to walk along the road that the system had just navigated him down.

 ‘System, are the tasks you just mentioned mandatory?’

Wang Xuan obediently followed behind Ji He for the sake of the five packets of nutrient solution. As Ji He wasn’t caught up with being distracted by him, he simply prompted the system to continue explaining.

 [These tasks are ordinary tasks, such as hunting and gathering, which can be done slowly, but the rewards aren’t as good.]

 Good things? Ji He blinked, was this really all that the system would give in the way of a clear answer?

That aside, it had been almost five hours since Ji He had come here. He was a little hungry and couldn’t wait to find something to eat. However, Ji He still wanted to try the nutrient solution since he didn’t know what it tasted like…

Without the burden of having to carry anyone, Ji He was walking faster and arrived at his destination faster than he had expected.

The plants here were all very tall. In the wooded area they were in previously it took about three or four people holding hands to encircle the trunk of a single tree. Those trees were also very tall, and the leaves of the canopy connected together to cover the sky and block out the sun.

After they walked out of the woods, although the branches and leaves of the bamboos weren’t as dense, they could be seen for some distance. Just like the trees, the bamboos here were also unusually tall, though not as thick around as the trees of the woods prior. Ji He visually observed that the thinnest bamboos he saw were about one meter thick. These bamboos were also the relatively thin ones in this bamboo forest.

They were so tall that he couldn’t see the top of them, but could only look up to see that they just kept going and going…

The point selected by the system was the upstream section of a small stream. Just like trees and bamboos, although this small stream was called a small stream, Ji He felt that it was more apt to be called a river.

Ji He saw how nervous Wang Xuan was and thought that something was coming out of the river. He readied his wooden stick and planned to hit it, but when he turned around everything was still calm and nothing had appeared.

“Yeah, what’s wrong with this place?”

Wang Xuan gulped and completely believed in Ji He’s statement that he was a newcomer. If he had lived here for any length of time, he wouldn’t be so unaware of the dangers that lurked in the water.

“There are a lot of inedible things in the water, and some are all shells and look like Kerr beasts! Do you know Kerr beasts? These ones are small and can be killed with a stone, but if there are too many of them there are only two of us here. If we get caught, it will hurt!!”

“Also, this water isn’t drinkable! Some people have drunk this water before, and they’ve all gotten sick for a while after. As you know, we don’t have medicines, so being sick is equal to death which makes water the most dangerous thing here… Come over here quickly.”

Following Wang Xuan’s words, Ji He took a couple steps closer to the bamboo forest while grumbling inwardly. He figured that the people who died drinking water likely did so by drinking raw water. According to Wang Xuan, there were some strange species in the water, so the water probably wasn’t very clean. If a person in good health drank this kind of water they might have dysentery. Meanwhile if a person in poor health drank it it would likely turn out as Wang Xuan had said, with the subject dying after falling ill
