Lifeboat

We slowly made our way to the island. We could go as fast as we wanted, but we’re not in a hurry.
The first night came and we looked at the sky from the deck.

 ”The moon is beautiful, hey.”
 ”Unyu~”

We were lying on the deck, looking at the moon and the ceiling of stars that filled the sky. The light of the moon and the stars is due to the reaction of mana.
The brighter the star, the more mana it is filled with. The moon is particularly rich in mana, and it has been suggested that the moon is the source of all magic on earth.
Well, I’m not going to worry about that right now. I’m just going to look at the beautiful sky. I stroke Uni next to me.

 ”Unyu~♪”

He feels very nice. Uni’s fur is very soft and fluffy.
If we keep going like this, we’ll be at the intended island in about two days. We have food on board and the ability to get drinking water from sea water, so there’s no problem.
 Now then.

 ”Let’s go to sleep.”
 ”Uni~”

I returned inside from the deck to sleep with Uni in the bedroom. The next morning, after a refreshing shower, I had breakfast in the fully equipped mess hall.
In the cockpit, I checked the radar and the magic monitor. The magic monitor reads the situation outside from the mana and reflects it on a transparent board. The radar also uses this screen, and also makes sound.

 ”Uni!”
 ”Hm? Ah, there’s a reaction.”

The sea urchin points his cute little hand at the radar to bring it to my attention. I look at the radar screen and see that there are five signals, northwest of here.
Four of them are probably ships. But the other one is a bio-sign. And it’s a big one.
It’s atmosphere isn’t calm. The bio-sign is probably a monster. It looks like it’s probably rampaging.
Now, what shall we do? In all honesty, I could turn a blind eye to it, but I don’t think I’ll be able to leave it alone.

”Uni, I’m going to make a little detour.”
 ”Unyu-!”

Uni seems to have understood. We adjusted our course and turned towards the bio-sign.
The ship is capable of automatic navigation, so there is no need to operate the rudder like the sailing ships that attacked us.
The ship speeds up and moves on. As we approached, we stepped out onto the deck. It’s easy to see it on the screen, but it’s better to look at it yourself if you can.

 ”Is that, a plesiosaurus?”

I saw a plesiosaurus attacking four ships. Plesiosaurus are a type of sea dragon. They use their long necks to attack by swinging them around, or try to bite you with their mighty jaws.
As you can see, things are not looking good for the ship. They have cannons, but they seem to be of the same old type that the pirates had used. It has more guns than a pirate ship, but even though it’s only up against a plesiosaurus, it’s still a bit underwhelming.
The skin of the plesiosaurus is thick and it has magic power as high as a dragon’s. The plesiosaurus isn’t that good at controlling magic, so it only uses it to strengthen its body, yet, even then, a sailing ship of that size would be easily destroyed.
Unless the ship is magically powered like the one I’m using, there’s limits to how much armour the ship can carry. The ship does also have steel plate reinforcement to some extent, but its base is wood.
It seems that a magician is accompanying them and is trying to increase the cannon’s power with magic, but even so, it’s doing little damage to the plesiosaurus.
They also seem to be using magic for defence, but their ability to deploy magic circles for strengthening the armour is very limited. The magic circle’s range isn’t that wide, and if they force it to expand, the effect will be significantly reduced.
I use the panel on the mast to increase our speed to burst between the fleet and the plesiosaurus.

 ”Wha-, what’s that, something’s coming!”
”No way, what’s with that neck! It’s a new one!”

You can hear the panicked sailor’s voices. But it’s not a head. I extended the arm of the construction boat to use against the plesiosaurus. Immediately afterwards the plesiosaurus swung its neck towards one of the ships.

 ”Uwaaaah! No more—!”

 — Gakiiiiin!

 ”—!?”

However, the plesiosaurus’s thick neck didn’t hit the ship, as the arm was maneuvered to block it and it hit the bucket at the end instead.

 ”What’s that!”
 ”Fangs of steel!?”

The sailors were astonished. Fangs of steel? I found it a bit amusing. It looks like a steel fang, depending on how you look at it. This was originally intended for construction use at sea, as an arm-shaped appendage with a bucket at the end, with a tooth-like attachment on the bucket.
of course, it’s a powerful thing that won’t break easily.

”Wha-, what on earth is going on?”
”I don’t know, princess, but it seems the ship is being protected by something.”

Hm? Did you just say something about a princess now?
Hmmm, now that I think about it, even though it’s an old ship, it does seem a bit luxurious.
Well, whatever. I then attacked the plesiosaurus by swinging the wrecking ball attached to the crane at it.

–Gan-gan, dogon! [TL: Please picture the sound of a strained chain swinging, followed by the loud smash of the wrecking ball against the monster.]

 ”Gyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaoooohh!”

The plesiosaurus screamed and fell over. And then, a little distance away, he growled and stared at us. But if you thought you were safe at that distance, then you’re naive!
I operate the ship’s panel. A pile-driver appears on deck. It was originally intended to be used as construction equipment for driving anchors into the ocean floor, but I had also prepared it for just such an occasion.

 ”Magic stake ejectiooooon!”

The stake shot out in a straight line and successfully pierced the plesiosaurus. These stakes can be used to create a variety of effects with building techniques. The stake that had just been shot was equipped with a technique that releases electric shocks.
As soon as the stake struck, an electric shock erupted, and the electrocuted plesiosaurus fell to the surface, sending up a huge splash.
All right, we seem to have safely defeated it. Now that ship should be saved…
