The Fake Saint of a Reverse Harem Game
Chapter 13.2
If I knew this would happen, I should’ve read the guidebook a little harder. I resented the past when I skipped the chapters involving the other characters to win Curtis, who was no longer even useful at the moment.
‘No, it’s not my fault. Who would even think ahead and know I’d get stuck in this mess of a game anyway?’
I hugged to comfort myself, and then got up from my seat. I pulled the rope by the bed to make things tidy in the morning, but no one came.
“Dorothy?”
“…”
“Cecia?”
Opening the bedroom door, I looked around the empty hallway to find Dorothy and Cecia, who particularly liked me among the maids that served me. The hallway covered with purple wallpaper that symbolized the Marquis Abina was so quiet.
“…Is anybody there?”
Feeling terrified for a moment, I ran down the hallway in my pajamas. Fortunately, as I got down one floor, I saw a maid cleaning the window with a rag.
“Hey, didn’t you see Dorothy or Cecia?”
“I haven’t seen them.”
I blinked hard at the chubby maid’s answer.
“Then can you prepare some water for me to wash my face?”
The unfamiliar maid stared at me sharply and asked back, “Why me?”
It seemed like she didn’t want to work since she wasn’t my own maid.
“Oh, I’ll wash myself then…”
In reality, I used to wash my back all alone anyway. Would it be that difficult to wash my face alone in the morning?
“Come to think of it, it’s almost time for Lady Lirina to get up,” the maid said.
She stared at me, her fingers clenched, and then threw the rag she used for cleaning at my face.
PLOP!
The rag slapped on my cheek and I blinked slowly as I looked at it falling to the floor.
Huh?
What just happened?
“Now, clean the windows.”
As if my surprised face was funny, the maid pushed my forehead with the tip of her finger as she held back a smile.
“Don’t be stupid,” the maid added, “I need to get Lady Lirina’s wash water. Or would you like to go?”
I didn’t understand the maid’s words and tilted my head.
“Why should I bring Lirina’s wash water? That’s a maid’s job.”
“Madam, you’re working as a maid at the Marquis starting today.”
My eyes almost fell out of their sockets at the maid’s startling words.
What kind of bullshit was that?
Edith Abina was the eldest daughter of Marquess Abina, and was obviously a noble lady…
“The Marquis gathered all the servants and announced that either you start working as a maid or leave the mansion immediately.”
‘Ah, did she mean to say that if Edith ceases to be the Lady of Caballero, she would be kicked out of the Marquis mansion?’
I sighed, recalling the potato-like face of the Marquis, who looked nothing like Edith.
No matter how little blood they shared, there was a time when he raised her as his own child, which made it even more despicable. Besides, it was true that she was the child of the dead marquis’ wife, so she wasn’t a complete stranger.
“Did he? I didn’t hear the details from the Marquis.”
“Yes,” the maid puffed her chest indignantly, “So you can start cleaning the window now or pack up and get out. I don’t want to be scolded by the Marquis like Dorothy or Cecia if I took care of you for no reason.”
My brows scrunched at the maid’s words. No wonder I couldn’t find Cecia and Dorothy, so something must have happened because of me.
“Dorothy and Cecia, where are they?”
“Thanks to the lady, they now work at the laundromat for a week. The Marquis told me not to use warm water, so I’m having a hard time.”
I stared at the maid’s face and slowly opened my mouth, “Well, I see. Are you close to them?”
“No. I’m Lady Lirina’s maid, so why would I be close to the girls who were your exclusive maids?”
At the maid’s reply, I pondered over whether Edith had ever had a fight with this maid.
‘I can’t recall anything. There’s certainly no memory left in Edith’s body.’
“I don’t remember you, have I ever scolded you before?”
Still, when I asked to check, the maid hesitated to answer my question.
“Not really, but you disrespected the real noble lady, Lady Lirina. That is why I hate you.”
“Oh, I see. I didn’t bother you.”
I smiled at the maid’s honest answer, and it relieved my guilt quite a bit.
“Even so, you act so carelessly like this.”
“Kyaa! Let go of me!”
I grabbed the maid’s hair with my free hand and rammed her into the glass window.
