Zhu Yuan was dumbfounded when he woke up. First, half of his ability had recovered. Judging from how exhausted it had been previously, he thought that for him to completely recover, it would need at least half a month.

However, after waking up, not only was the injury in his chest not hurting as much, even his ability was half recovered?

What the hell!

The plotlines of strange cultivation novels he’d read before the apocalypse appeared in his mind. Things like how the male lead was bound to run into chance encounters after surviving great disasters. So, had he run into some chance encounter while dreaming?

He lifted a hand by reflex and made a wind sphere appear in his palm.

Zhu Yuan sat up. Something rolled off his body with a crisp cling, and, as he looked towards the sound, his eyes widened.

Heavens! An air type crystal!

There wasn’t only one but many, plus all of these crystals were level 2 crystals, the equivalent of a C class ability user.

He hurriedly peeled the blankets away to pick up the crystals. As his gaze shifted, it landed on the metal box atop the bedside cabinet and his body completely. stiffened

What did he just see?!

A box of crystals, with every type of ability in it! They were all around level 2.

Zhu Yuan’s hands trembled slightly as he picked the box up and reached towards the corner to pick out three slightly larger crystals. Those were… Level 3 crystals.

Zhu Yuan’s breathing grew heavy.

Not only were there about a hundred level 2 crystals in the metal box, but there were also three level 3 crystals. What kind of crazy wealthy existence was this?

Even if Zhu Yuan had seen and heard much, his legs still softened at the scent of this ‘wealth’.

He had survived in the apocalypse for five years and the majority of crystals he had were level 1s. Ordinary zombies didn’t leave crystals behind after dying while the lowest level was a level one zombie.

Level two crystals were fairly rare too. When zombies evolved into the second stage, they gained the ability to summon zombies with levels lower than theirs, so the chances of a C class ability user to win a battle when meeting a level 2 zombie wasn’t high.

To Zhu Yuan, he wouldn’t be in danger as long as he didn’t run into a crowd of level 2 zombies. If he ran into a level 3 zombie, then the only he could do was to run for his life.

He and Du Ming Yu risked their lives to killed that injured level 3 zombie. After getting that level 3 crystal, it should’ve been something worth celebrating, instead, it led to him getting backstabbed by Du Ming Yu.

Right now, he was seeing three level 3 crystals in a metal box.

Amidst his shock, he felt that this was rather ironic.

With another look at the cartoon print on the lid of the box, he immediately understood where this box came from.

Zhu Yuan’s heartbeat sped up. What would happen if he left with this box?

He couldn’t help laughing sardonically. That truly was a tempting amount of wealth.

Especially to the currently penniless him—his family assets were all in the car that Du Ming Yu drove away.

Zhu Yuan took a deep breath and placed the green crystal back into the box. His gaze swept past the three level 3 crystals before he covered it back up.

Now, he finally understood why his injuries healed so quickly after a nap, and why even his ability had recovered more than half.

It was because he had absorbed a large amount of level 2 crystals. They were even the same type.

Zhu Yuan’s chest trembled. The hand on the metal box was also shaking slightly.

Now, in the fifth year into the apocalypse, he was used to humanity’s selfishness, pretentiousness, coldness. Yet it turns out…. This world wasn’t as cold as he thought.

Or perhaps… this was just the pure innocent kindness in a child.

Clang.

A sound from outside drew Zhu Yuan out of his thoughts. He quickly put down the metal box and took large strides over to open the door. In the dimly lit living room, a tiny little figure was squatting down, reaching out an equally tiny little hand to pick up the broken glass pieces on the ground. The sight made his eyelids twitch.

What if the sharp glass pieces cut her hand!

“Bian Bian.” Zhu Yuan subconsciously smiled, softening his tone.

Bian Bian looked up and immediately cried out happily, “Uncle Zhu Yuan, you’re awake?”

When Zhu Yuan walked over, Bian Bian played with her fingers, explaining in a rather embarrassed manner, “I wanted to pour some water for you but broke the cup.”

She would feed Zhu Yuan water after a certain amount of time. Seeing that there wasn’t much water in the cup, she took the cup into the living room to refill it. Unfortunately, she accidentally dropped the cup onto the ground.

The little girl’s heart ached slightly. However, what’s good was that there were still many good cups left in the house.

“Good thing the water wasn’t wasted.” The little girl pointed at the remaining half bottle of water, speaking like an adult, “The cup can shatter but water cannot be wasted.”

Then, she continued picking up the shattered glass. Broken glass pieces must be picked up immediately, or else it would be easy to harm oneself— Bian Bian’s feet were once victims of it.

“Let uncle do it.” Zhu Yuan pulled Bian Bian over to the side. The little girl was clever too and ran into the washroom to bring a broom and dustpan over.

Looking at Bian Bian’s practiced movements, Zhu Yuan paused for a while before asking, “How long have you been living alone for?”

Bian Bian dragged the broom that was much taller than her as she thought carefully before shaking her head. “I don’t know.”

Zhu Yuan felt bad for her and a hint of it flashed past the bottom of his eyes. He didn’t continue on this topic. Taking the broom, he cleaned everything up at lightning speed while Bian Bian happily hugged her little bear at the sidelines.

It is much faster with uncle cleaning up.

“Uncle Zhu Yuan, I’ve already put your clothes into the water, however I can’t manage to wash it.” Bian Bian felt ashamed when saying those words. What she meant to say was uncle, quickly finish cleaning your clothes, that way you can take grandpa’s clothes off after they dry.

Zhu Yuan glanced at the basin in the washroom and chuckled. After surviving in the apocalypse for a few years, most of the time when his clothes were dirtied or ruined, he would go into clothes shops to find another set.

Clothes were very easy to find, unlike food.

Looking at his clothes laying there in the basin, a surprising warmth covered his heart and he subconsciously wanted to reach out and rub Bian Bian’s head. However, he felt something stop him, and after that his hand was deflected.

Zhu Yuan: ?

He looked at his hand with an odd look. A moment later, meeting Bian Bian’s bright and clear eyes, he thought, perhaps it was Bian Bian subconsciously operating her ability to protect herself.

“Okay, I’ll wash it later. Thank you Bian Bian.”

“You’re welcome.” The little girl replied in her adorable voice. Then she summoned her courage, “Uncle Zhu Yuan, can you help me cook the noodles?”

The little girl turned around and picked up the instant noodles, her large eyes shooting over at Zhu Yuan eagerly.

“The noodles grandpa cook are delicious, however I can’t reach the stove to cook it.”

Zhu Yuan asked, “How do you usually eat?”

The little girl pointed at the instant noodles, then pointed at the water.

Zhu Yuan’s heart ached badly for her. It was hard to imagine the scene of a young child surviving alone.

He guessed the Bian Bian and her grandfather relied on her other for survival, however grandpa got into an accident.

Plus, through the various metal defences inside the house, one could tell that he was a metal type ability user.

He was even very strong, because that box of crystals was the best evidence.

That’s how they were able to safely survive here.

Even though little Bian Bian had the most mysterious ability of all, however as she was too young and couldn’t control it well, unable to ask others for help, she could only live alone.

Zhu Yuan took the instant noodles and went into the kitchen. Seeing that all the kitchen appliances were Therese couldn’t help thinking of the image of an old man busying about in the kitchen while little Bian Bian was bouncing around beside him.

When he opened the cabinets, he was surprised and delighted to find that there was even rice inside!

This time even Zhu Yuan was hungry. There was rice and a gas stove, which meant that they couldn’t eat a normal hot dinner. Even he hadn’t eaten hot food for a long time and really missed it.

Gulping, he turned and asked, “Bian Bian, would you like to have rice?”

Bian Bian’s eyes lit up as she nodded.delicious fragrant rice could only be each when grandpa was here. She didn’t couldn’t cook it herself either,

Bian Bian hadn’t had rice for along time and was nearly about to forget the last of rice.

Next she seemed to remember something and reached out to tug Zhu Yuan’s sleeve, her large grape-like eyes shining. She spread her arms out. “I went to the supermarket yesterday. There were a lot of things inside, including pickled mustard tuber.”

Pickled mustard tuber with rice, the best pair.

The reason Bian Bian didn’t take it yesterday was because it was too salty, after eating it she would only drink and drink and drink water, while water was even more precious than food. Bian Bian had tiny arms and legs and couldn’t bring back too much water at one go.

The ten mineral bottles yesterday was already Bian Bian’s limit.

Zhu Yuan would’ve never thought that there would be supermarkets yet to be emptied near him. He lifted his wrist to take a look——he had a watch on his wrist.

It was four in the afternoon, the rain outside had already stopped and the sun had also come out. Once again sensing the situation with his ability, he decided that going to the supermarket to look for pickled mustard tuber was not a problem.

He noticed the large apple on the table when his gaze turned away, but didn’t think of anything and only thought that that apple was also taken away from the supermarket by Bian Bian. It could be seen that there were many good things in there.

No matter what, he had to take a trip and change little Bian Bian’s meals!

“Okay, let/s go to the supermarket!”

Bian Bian was so happy that she was about to start dancing. Her hands happily dug into her pockets.

Zhu Yuan tried looking for weapons. He remembered that his gun had landed downstairs and turned and went to the balcony to peer down below, yet only saw the corpse of the zombie he slaughtered. His gun was gone.

Zhu Yuan’s heart constricted.

There were two reasons the gun disappeared. It either was taken away by a zombie or taken away by an ability user.

No matter which kind it was, perhaps, he shouldn’t take the risk now while his wound wasn’t completely healed.

However, seeing that Bian Bian had already happily moved away the chair she placed against the door and remove the water bottle, he simply couldn’t bear killing her excitement.

After thinking for a while, he said, “Bian Bian, can you wait here at home for me? Il’l go and fetch it.”

“But, you don’t know where it.”

The moment he walked out of the front door, Zhu Yuan was given a fright by the metal wall in front of him. Immediately after, his face changed. He caught Bian Bian and rushed back behind the door, closing it.

He breathing was unsteady and cold sweat fell from his back, pulling on the wound on his chest. Yet he could care about that at all.

There’s actually a high level zombie upstairs, and from the suppression level, it was at least a level 3, maybe even a level 4!

Bian Bian: ?

“Uncle Zhu Yuan, are you okay?” She was frightened by Zhu Yuan’s sudden movement.

Zhu Yuan gulped. His throat muscles were slightly tensed up. He looked down and made eye contact with the little girl. “Bian Bian, were you living here with grandpa previously?”

Bian Bian nodded.

“Do you know that upstairs…” The terrifying feeling of being shrouded under a high level zombie’s suppression made Zhu Yuan’s scalp numb. How did little Bian Bian and here grandpa survive under the zombie’s suppression”

Before he could finish his sentence, the little girl lowered her head sadly. Tears fell and she secretly raised her hand to wipe them away. She whispered, “That’s grandpa.”

Zhu Yuan: …

Zhu Yuan: ???

Zhu Yuan: !!!

On the other side, Xiu Jin’s face turned black the moment he saw Zhu Yuan pick his precious daughter up. He pulled and pulled at Zhu Yuan’s hand, his finger only stopping when his precious daughter left Zhu Yuan’s claws.

He was not going to argue with Zhu Yuan

However, Zhu Yuan had already made his precious cry. Xiu Jin started burning with fury at that sight. But when he saw how scared this lad was of Lu Yu, for some reason, he felt much better.

“Dare to have other thought of precious, hmph, I’ll let Lu Yu out to chew you to death!”
