Chapter 5: Aloof

Xie Sen finished, turned his head to continue cutting meat and said, “I think you are quite nice, so I wanted to make a friend. I wanted to come to an understanding, and see if there were common hobbies, so we could be together to play!”

Maine laughed playfully. If he hadn’t recognized Xie Sen as a poor guy from the same school, he wouldn’t have made a move. “I don’t have any friends, and I don’t need any.”

Xie Sen froze, stopping what he was doing and turning to look at Maine, who was leaning against the door frame with his arms wrapped around his chest, his posture casual. His mouth was even smiling, as if the words he had just said hadn’t come from him.

Xie Sen blinked, and said in the tone of an elder educating a junior, “Dude, you have to be a little bit low vision. You are so handsome, you can’t ask your friends to be on the same level as you! What’s the point of being alone? Friends still have to be made.”

Maine looked at his white and serious face, and lightly laughed, slightly self-deprecating. “Not for that reason.” he tilted his chin  slightly towards the cooking table. “Speed up. I have to sleep.”

Xie Sen thought of the time now and said quickly, “I can do it myself. You go rest first.”

Maine thought for a moment, nodded and pointed to the button on the wall against the door. “Close the door and turn on the soundproof system.” When Xie Sen answered, he turned around and went back to his room.

Xie Sen rinsed his hands clean, went to the door, studied it, closed the door and opened the soundproof system as Maine had asked. He had woken the man up just by tapping his hand before, so he was obviously a light sleeper.

Xie Sen resumed cutting the meat when it occurred to him that he hadn’t asked the handsome man his name yet! The man was so handsome, he must be a celebrity at school, and he might find it strange if he were to ask such a question.

Xie Sen quickly grilled the meat, and the kitchen was filled with the scent. He took a bite and gave himself a thumbs up, it was even better than the boxed lunch he bought. He was carrying the plate with the meat on it, and when he reached the door, he stopped, as he realized that he would disturb the owner again if he went out to eat, so he just leaned against the cooking table and ate slowly.

As he was eating, a sudden warm sensation filled his right shoulder, and he immediately shouted in his head, ‘Adam! Adam!’

‘Wow, why are you still awake at this hour?’ the male voice was partly surprised.

Xie Sen recounted what happened in the afternoon, ‘I don’t know what happened. I suddenly couldn’t control my movements at that time.’

Adam was silent for a moment and whispered, ‘Didn’t I remind you? You have to rest for eight hours after waking up.’

‘You really know the reason. What is going on?’

Adam said, ‘I am supported by two kinds of energy, the body energy and plant energy. The body energy will build the System, since it is a fixed existence. Plant energy will give daily consumption and upgrades, from when you master activation of a plant. I was only thinking of keeping you alive, I didn’t expect to cross time and space. In the process of crossing I received a strong impact, and the insta-energy scattered. Only a small part was left in your body. The lack of energy in your body causes you, and your body to fit less than one hundred percent, so every eight hours you will have a little glitch.”

Xie Sen sucked in a cold breath. ‘This is still a glitch? Will my soul suddenly leave my body?’

‘No way!’ Adam said, and suddenly got weak again. ‘If you rest, you will not have any issues.’

‘Is there a solution?’

‘Yes!’ Adam’s voice rose high. ‘Find my scattered energy, and I will transfer some of it to you.’

Xie Sen instantly felt relieved to hear that there was help. ‘How do I find it? Where to find it?’

‘…When I have enough energy, I can sense them,’ Adam paused. ‘Probably…when you activate three types of plants will be enough.’

The first plant required 10 energy, the second required 100. Also, when the System grew plants or fruit, it needed to consume energy.

He rubbed his face to calm himself down. During the apocalypse, there were less people so he only got little energy. Then he gave food to people in order to get energy, but encountered betrayal. He had a wariness of people, and the number of good deeds plummeted.

Eventually there were fewer and fewer humans, so he simply found a house in the countryside, closed the door to farm, and went a long time without access to energy.

Since this was a peaceful world, and Beast Star had a large number of people, gaining energy must be easier than during the apocalypse!

Xie Sen finished cheering himself up,then  thought of one thing. Slightly worried, he said to Adam, ‘I can’t see the System panel.’

‘You will be able to see it when you activate the first plant. It’s a good thing you have my native energy in your body, otherwise I would be temporarily ruined and not even be able to activate the plant.’

Xie Sen was also secretly thankful, and listened to Adam. ‘I’m going to sleep. Twelve hours from now if there is a problem, wake me up. If there is nothing, I will continue to accumulate energy. If things aren’t finished soon, I won’t wake up.’

Xie Sen hurriedly boasted, ‘You woke up just in time! You are simply wonderful. You are definitely the best System in the world. Don’t worry, I will definitely let you recover as soon as possible!’

Adam giggled, ‘I believe you. You’re a good master too.’

Xie Sen couldn’t help but laugh, this was also business to hype each other up.

When he made sure Adam was asleep, he finished the meat, cleaned up the kitchen, gingerly returned to his room, brushed his teeth and went back to sleep.

The next morning he woke up very early. He slowly pushed open the door of his room, saw that the adjacent door was still closed, lightly and slowly walked to the kitchen, closed the door and turned on the soundproof system.

As soon as Maine opened the door, he smelled the scent of meat. He went to the living room, and saw Xie Sen was bending down to put down the dinner plates.

Xie Sen set down the plates, turned around and met Maine. He secretly sighed at the beauty of the other and gave him a bright smile. “Wash up? I’ve made breakfast. See if it’s to your liking.”

Maine glanced towards the coffee table. There was roast meat and fried eggs on the dinner plate. The size was good, and it looked delicious.

He turned to the kitchen, and Xie Sen said, “Don’t worry, I’ll clean it up afterwards. It’ll be exactly the same as before.”

Maine didn’t say anything, but came out of the kitchen after a while with two cups of water, still steaming.

Xie Sen knew he had misunderstood, smiled and took one of the glasses, and thanked him again, “Thank you, I was just about to ask where to get a drink!”

Maine looked down and ate the meat. Xie Sen blinked and secretly wondered if this person was autistic after waking up. Why didn’t he say a word?

‘Ding Dong‘ a slight beep sounded in his head. Xie Sen froze. The sound was really familiar and yet strange to him. With the sound, a few small words appeared in front of him. Grateful energy 2. Total 2.

He looked at the man who was eating meat in silence with little expression, and looked at the gratitude energy 8/10 above his head, and the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curl more and more.

So silent and cold. He was just too grateful to speak!
