Chapter 71: Arrest

Xie Sen was silent for a moment, then opened the door to let Meyer into the house. The two of them sat on the couch. Tuan Tuan landed on Xie Sen’s shoulder, as it looked at the stranger across from him.

Xie Sen’s mind was racing, as he tried to figure out what to do, but the more he thought about it, the worse it got. If it hadn’t been destroyed, there was no reason why Soria wouldn’t accuse Maine of it! He knew all too well how much Soria hated Maine.

He put a polite smile on his lips. “Lieutenant General Cox, I think you misunderstood. Maine and I feel sympathy for what happened to Julos. We understand your desire to find the killer, but this has nothing to do with Maine.”

“You’re as cunning as Maine,” Meyer said with a mocking look in his eyes. “And it seems you won’t believe it until you see the truth.”

Xie Sen said, “Of course I won’t believe it. If there was any surveillance, I think your wife would have taken it out a long time ago instead of resorting to crazy methods of retaliation.”

Meyer’s face sank. Xie Sen’s mention of Soria obviously brought back unpleasant memories. He gave Xie Sen a hard look. “That’s because he was too stupid to even know that Thor had secretly transferred the destroyed surveillance, then restored it.”

Xie Sen’s fingers clenched. “If that’s the case, why would Thor tell you about something so secretive?”

“Because he wanted to seek my help, of course. Just as he deliberately restored the surveillance. In order to prevent Soria from silencing him, he made preparations in advance. This preparation has now become his leverage when asking me for help.” Meyer said as he stared at him. “Well. I’ve answered all your questions for you, now let’s look at the truth. I don’t want to waste any more words explaining it to you.”

He opened his bracelet, expanded the virtual screen, and pressed the start button.

Xie Sen looked at the screen. The resolution of the screen wasn’t very high, there was probably some damage during the recovery. Maine and Julos fought. It didn’t take long for the fight to end. In the last scene, Maine picked up the knife Julos dropped on the ground, and he left with Xie Sen.

Xie Sen stared at the knife. He thought of the photo of weapon in Julos’ murder that he had seen on the Starnet, and his heart gradually sank.

Meyer watched his expression tighten, and gave him a pleasant smile as he turned off the bracelet. “By your reaction, I think you know what this knife means?”

Xie Sen glared at him. “I don’t know. There are plenty of knives just like it.”

“No, this knife is different. It was a gift from Soria to Julos. It’s a special one, there’s only one like it,” Meyer said. “Don’t get your hopes up.”

Xie Sen looked at his triumphant pleasure, and couldn’t help but be angry. “Isn’t Maine your son? You let Julos bully him when he was a kid, and now you want to send him to jail yourself?”

“He’s not my son. He’s not a Cox.” Meyer scowled. His tone was cold and harsh. “And it’s up to you, whether you want to send him to jail or not.”

Xie Sen frowned. “What do you mean?”

Meyer said, “Maine took on Julos, then played the Cox family in turn. He didn’t respect the Cox family, and so his punishment should be the same. But he is lucky to have you as his boyfriend. As long as you agree to my request, I can spare him.”

Xie Sen had a bad feeling in his heart. “What do you want?”

Meyer’s eyes shone. “Let Cuomo and the giant lion beast bond. I know you can do it,” He paused. “Originally I only had this one request, but now that I think about it, it seems a little too easy. I have a famous subordinate who is a giant tiger beast master. Let him and the giant tiger beast bond. As long as you complete these two tasks, I really will destroy this surveillance and let Maine go.”

“No,” Xie Sen shook his head. “I can’t do that. I can let Cuomo and your subordinate meet with the contract beasts, and give them a chance to make a contract, but I can’t be sure that it will work.”

“You’re lying,” Meyer looked at him with a hard gaze. “You can do it. Those contract beasts listen to you, so how can you not do it? Or do you simply not care about Maine?”

Xie Sen glared at him, furious. “Contract beasts have their own minds, and they will choose their own masters. No one can interfere!”

Meyer looked him over, then sneered. “Who said you can’t interfere? Since you say you can’t do it, we’ll do it differently. I’ll provide you with medicine. You feed it to the giant lion beast and the giant tiger beast. I have a way to make them bond.”

Xie Sen gritted his teeth. “You want to force the bond?”

Meyer didn’t care. “So what? As long as the purpose is achieved, even if the contract beast will be weak for a while, the Cox family has the ability to make the contract beast recover as soon as possible. Do you agree?” He wrinkled his brows. “Stop saying you can’t do it. I’ve seen your live feeds, and they trust you completely.”

Xie Sen clenched his hands into hard fists, as he struggled with his expression. He couldn’t leave Maine alone! But as Meyer said, the contract beasts completely trusted him. They were his friends. If he did that, he would lose all his contract beast friends!

Meyer could see his struggle. With a light hum, he stood up and raised his hand. “It seems Maine isn’t that important in your heart. It’s fine if you don’t agree, I’ll contact the police to arrest him, and get justice for Julos.”

“Wait!” Xie Sen brushed his hand off and subconsciously shouted, even as he reflexively summoned the watermelon vine and tied Meyer’s hands tightly to stop him from contacting the police.

Meyer looked at him incredulously, “How dare you attack me? I’m a Star City Lieutenant General, a senior general in the military. You’re committing a crime!”

Xie Sen calmed his expression. “Don’t talk nonsense. I didn’t attack you, I just stopped you.”

Meyer’s face was dark. “Let go, or don’t blame me for not being polite.” As his words fell, a lion’s roar resounded through the room, and a giant golden lion appeared beside Meyer.

It was so large that the sofa wasn’t big enough for it to stand on. Half of its body was off the sofa in the open room, two paws were on the sofa, and its mouth was opening towards Xie Sen.

“Chirp!!!” Tuan Tuan screamed shrilly, its voice shrill and piercing. The white fluffy feathers on its head stood up, as it flapped its wings and flew to Xie Sen, then spread them in a protective manner.

The difference in its size, and that of the giant lion beast formed a sharp contrast. Xie Sen was originally frightened by the giant lion beast, but when he saw it this way, his panic subsided. He was touched, and wanted to laugh.

Meyer’s gaze flashed in surprise, and then he hummed a little. “An S class white-headed eagle beast? So what? It’s just a young bird…However, this also shows that you have a good relationship with the contract beasts. If you agree to my request, there is still a chance.” He paused, then his voice sharpened, “Immediately let me go!”

Xie Sen was still undecided, when the door was suddenly pushed open with great force. The door panel hit the wall with a violent clang.

Xie Sen turned his head. He was surprised when he saw Maine. “How did you get back already?” Training couldn’t be that fast.

Maine took in the scene inside the room. His expression seemed to have a layer of frost. He quickly walked to Xie Sen’s side, and wrapped his arms around him. He turned his cold eyes to Meyer, and his tone heavy with sarcasm. “Worthy of Lieutenant General Cox. Disgusting.”

Meyer’s expression twisted violently. Maine ignored him, and said to Xie Sen, “Let him go.”

Xie Sen grabbed his hand. “If I let him go, he’ll have someone come and get you. He’s got the parking lot surveillance!”

“Does he?” Maine said. “So what if he has that?”

Xie Sen looked at him with wide eyes. There was no way he didn’t know that he killed Julos with the knife he picked up!

Maine said, “You let him go.” Xie Sen was confused, but recalled the watermelon vine.

Meyer sullenly recalled the giant lion beast and sneered, “So what? This is the proof that you killed Julos!”

Maine said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Meyer gave him a pitying look. “You’re as stubborn as he is. A pathetic man who won’t admit the truth.” He turned on his bracelet, and played the surveillance again.

Maine stared intently at the video, and Meyer saw it. “Scared?” He looked at Xie Sen. “My request, have you considered it?”

Xie Sen looked at Maine. Maine gently pinched his chin, lowered his head, and planted a kiss on his lips as he whispered, “He really deserves to die, doesn’t he? For putting you in such a dilemma.”

Xie Sen was shocked. Maine had a murderous intent towards Meyer! His eyes were wide. “You can’t…” In his current position, Meyer would never be as sketchy as Julos, and he had a contract beast!

Maine’s fingers lightly grazed his cheek. “I won’t be impulsive. Don’t worry. It’ll be fine.”

He let go of Xie Sen, looked at Meyer then said coldly, “Refuse him. Whatever is asked, refuse it all. If you want someone to arrest me, you can contact them now.”

Xie Sen hurriedly grabbed his hand, but without waiting for him to say anything, Maine said soothingly, “It’s okay. Just hire a reliable lawyer for me.”

Meyer scowled at him. “The evidence is overwhelming. No lawyer can save you.”

Maine said lightly. “I don’t admit that this is evidence. I don’t admit that I killed Julos.”

Meyer was exasperated. “Do you think the law is a game kids play? That you can’t be convicted if you don’t admit it?” he said mockingly. “You are also really pathetic. In your boyfriend’s eyes, you aren’t even worth two contract beasts.”

Xie Sen finally couldn’t help himself, and cursed loudly, “Don’t bullshit. You’re the most pathetic in the world, with a dead son, a crazy wife, and a psychopath yourself!”

Meyer’s face instantly turned ugly, and he swung his hand at Xie Sen. Maine raised his own hand and grabbed it, his eyes frigid. “You want to hit him?”

Meyer’s eyes flashed with surprise and an indefinable jealousy.

Was this the strength of an S class beast master? Even if he was only just an adult, he was able to hold out against him. He withdrew his hand, as he lost all patience with trying to negotiate a deal and contacted the police directly. After he ended the communication, he looked at Maine with a sneer at the corner of his mouth. “I hope you will still be this tough the moment you are convicted.”

Xie Sen grabbed Maine uneasily. Maine held him in his arms, and whispered in his ear, “Trust me, I will be fine. Get Uncle Long’s help. Hire a competent lawyer, and have him meet me at the police station as soon as possible.”

Xie Sen tried to calm down, and nodded his head.

The police arrived soon and took Maine away, while Meyer left with a sullen face.

“Chirp…” Tuan Tuan called out softly, as Xie Sen stood in the doorway, then rubbed against his neck.

Xie Sen stroked Tuan Tuan’s head. “I’m fine, thank you.” He averted his gaze, and immediately contacted Long Teng to explain the situation to him. Long Teng happened to be with Long Yu and directly turned on the video function.

Long Yu heard what happened, and he immediately said, “Don’t worry. I’ll have my lawyer go to the police station right away.”

Xie Sen said gratefully, “Thank you, Uncle Long.”

Long Yu smiled. “It’s okay. You’re Teng’s friend. This is my thanks to you guys for taking care of him.”

After he ended the call, Xie Sen thought about things. Then he contacted Jay, Zhao Hao, Yan Qi, Qiao Shao… He contacted all the people he knew who weren’t in the Cox family’s military wing with the sole purpose of not letting Maine be bullied at the police station.

Maine entered the police station on the first foot, and the police station received a bunch of care messages on the second foot. The officers looked at each other. Someone couldn’t help but say, “He was born in the Cox family. So how come the Cox family asked for severe punishment, but the rest of the powerful families asked for good care?”

“Boss,” a police officer ran in from outside, sounding excited and nervous, “The flying eagle beast! The flying eagle beast is wandering around the police station! Has it taken a fancy to a beast master?”

“What are you dreaming of?” The chief, who was called Boss, yelled at him. “We don’t have any S class beast masters in the department!”

The officers who took Maine away looked at each other, and said with one voice, “Xie Sen!”
