Chapter 6: Why Were You Gone So Long?

When Jiang Fu returned, Old Madam Xie and the others immediately looked up. Xie Min stood up from the old lady’s side and ran to the door to hold Jiang Fu’s arm.

Xie Min tilted her head and gently rubbed it against Jiang Fu’s neck. She complained softly, “Ah Fu, why were you gone so long? Did Brother make things difficult for you?”

The old lady and the youngest son of the Xie family, Xie Yao, sat together and raised their heads slightly to look at her. They seemed a little nervous.

Xie Yao held a white porcelain bowl and a spoon in his soft little hands. There was a layer of oil on his red lips as if he had yet to lick them clean. He raised his head slightly and stared at her with a pair of dark eyes filled with nervousness.

The girl walked in and shook her head with a smile. “Of course not. Why would the general make things difficult for me?”

“Then why were you gone for so long? The dishes are getting cold!” Xie Min complained softly and pulled her to sit down. “Quick, try this fish. It’s especially spicy and delicious!”

Old Madam Xie and Xie Yao also heaved a sigh of relief. Xie Yao even stretched out his petite arm and picked up a giant drumstick. He put it into the empty bowl beside him with difficulty and said in a milky voice, “Sister Fu, eat this. It’s delicious!”

Xie Min sat on the other side of Old Madam Xie. She stuck her head out and argued with Xie Yao, “The fish is delicious! It’s good for girls to eat fish!”

“Chicken is delicious! Sister Fu, eat chicken!” Xie Yao held his spoon and stuck his head out to argue with her.

Xie Min was furious. Looking at the big drumstick in Jiang Fu’s bowl, the young lady of the General’s residence lost all her bearing. She shouted, “It’s so big. Ah Fu can’t finish it. Do you want to stuff her to death?!”

The child sat beside Jiang Fu, his little face puffed up with anger. He paused for a while before turning to look at Jiang Fu pitifully, staring at the drumstick in her bowl. “Can Sister Fu finish it?”

Jiang Fu lowered her head to take a look. Indeed, she could not finish it.

Seeing her troubled expression, Xie Yao understood. He sniffed and stretched out his hands. “Then why don’t…”

Seeing his sad look, Jiang Fu could not help but say, “Yao’er, you can eat with me.”

On the other side, Xie Min had already picked up a piece of fish with her chopsticks and was about to get someone to bring it to Jiang Fu. She maintained her posture and looked at Jiang Fu and Xie Yao silently.

Xie Yao held the spoon, his eyes sparkling. He did not even look at his biological sister. He put down the spoon happily and picked up the chopsticks beside him clumsily. “Okay! Then I’ll eat with Sister Fu!”

Jiang Fu smiled at Xie Min. He was just a child.

Although Xie Min understood what she meant, she still turned her head and placed the fish on her plate. She poked it with her chopsticks from time to time.

Old Madam Xie sat in the middle and looked left and right. She could not help but laugh.

Before Jiang Fu entered the family, her grandchildren had always been obedient and never dared to behave like this at the dining table. Now, their lives have gotten livelier.

She only had one son, Xie Cheng’s father. He had died on the front line a few years ago. After he passed away, Xie Cheng’s personality became even more gloomy. He did not think about starting a family at all. Even his two siblings became depressed. Yao’er was only seven years old this year. Why did he have to be so calm and sensible? A child should be like a child!

Just like this, it would be great to run around with Ah Fu every day.
