C22 – Heavily Injured

“If you want to investigate, I can help you.” Noticing the reluctance in Xu Yangyi’s heart, Hee Jingyan embraced him and spoke in a softer tone.

Initially, he had believed that she was a naive and innocent girl, but he had not anticipated that she had a hidden backstory. Upon hearing about his mother-in-law’s situation, he realized that it was not a simple accident.

Xu Yangyi was polite and replied, “I will personally investigate my mother’s case. Your help is not necessary.”

Hee Jingyan had anticipated that Xu Yangyi would respond this way, as his wife was fiercely independent and would not accept assistance easily. However, even if Xu Yangyi declined, it did not mean that Hee Jingyan would stop trying. Thus, he raised his voice and stated, “Regardless, it concerns my mother-in-law. How can I simply stand by and do nothing?”

However, the moment Hee Jingyan spoke those words, Xu Yangyi immediately interrupted him and stated firmly, “Who is your mother-in-law? I already told you, I’m not…”

“If your sister were to marry me, she would also be my mother-in-law, wouldn’t she?” Xu Yangyi had intended to say that Hee Jingyan was not his wife, but before he could finish, Hee Jingyan cut in.

Xu Yangyi was momentarily taken aback but eventually conceded. However, in the next instant, he glared fiercely at the grinning Hee Jingyan and retorted, “But it’s me who’s marrying you, so stop trying to deceive me.” Yet, even as he spoke those words, Xu Yangyi himself was bewildered. What the hell? How did it suddenly become me marrying him? Xu Yangyi rubbed his head in frustration and yelled, “Anyway, it’s not your mother-in-law.”

Xu Yangyi berated himself, calling himself an idiot for his awkward response.

Hee Jingyan was all smiles, delighted that he had set a trap for Xu Yangyi to fall into.

“What’s so funny! You treacherous man!” After some time, Xu Yangyi realized that he had been duped by Hee Jingyan and punched him with all his might. Normally, Hee Jingyan would not have felt the blow, but now he frowned as he looked at Xu Yangyi with a grimace instead of a smile.

“Wife, your husband is injured. Can’t you be a little more gentle with me?” Xu Yangyi did not take it seriously and thought that Wu Junyi had shown him mercy by pushing him away. However, Wu Junyi gave him a disdainful look, her arms crossed haughtily, and snapped, “Stop pretending!”

“How shameless! All you know how to do is pretend. Is a little bit of blood on your forehead that big of a deal?”

Loong Shen, who was driving in front, assumed that Hee Jingyan was just playing around with Xu Yangyi, so he paid no attention to their bickering and drove away quickly to avoid running into their enemies. He soon caught up with his men.

After a while, the atmosphere in the car became eerily quiet. Perhaps it was because Hee Jingyan was no longer teasing Xu Yangyi, but the silence was even more unsettling.

Just as Xu Yangyi thought that Hee Jingyan had finally shut up, he suddenly noticed the cool dampness emanating from Hee Jingyan’s arm next to him.

Out of curiosity, Xu Yangyi reached out to touch Hee Jingyan’s arm, but his eyes widened in shock when he saw the blood on his hand. Blood was dripping from Hee Jingyan’s arm onto the seat.

“What’s wrong? Scared?” Seeing Xu Yangyi’s shocked expression, Hee Jingyan leaned back against the cushion and laughed, “It looks like my bone’s broken!” He spoke nonchalantly, as if it was not a big deal, and even burst out laughing. His face slowly turned pale, perhaps because he had lost too much blood.
