C29 – Self-Accusation

The moment he left the infirmary, Xu Yangyi shouted, “The Colonel is undergoing surgery.” He then called Ji Guangming over, “The Colonel has given orders. You will take care of my sister-in-law’s daily needs from now on.”

“Me?” Ji Guangming looked bewildered and unsure, as he had already declined the task and given a reason for it.

“Or should it be me?” Loong Shen glanced at Ji Guangming with a hint of intimidation in his eyes. Ji Guangming was startled and quickly saluted, “Yes, I understand.” He did not dare to disobey the orders.

However, everyone was envious and remarked,

“Ji Guangming, you lucky guy! You get to personally take care of the sister-in-law.”

“I’m so envious of you. You’re one fortunate kid.”

“Why didn’t I get to take care of her?”

“Damn it, I’m so jealous!”

……

The subordinates had become jealous of him, but Ji Guangming was obstinate and said helplessly, “If possible, I’d trade places with you guys. I’m a man, and it’s not right for me to take care of my sister-in-law!”

Ji Guangming kept arguing about the matter, but as soon as he mentioned it, everyone felt like slapping him and said:

“Ji Guangming, are you trying to get yourself killed?”

“Do you want to fight, kid?”

“You don’t know how fortunate you are.”

“She is the only female member of our troop!”

……

Although they pretended otherwise, they were secretly envious of Ji Guangming being able to take care of their stunning sister-in-law. However, they were grateful they didn’t have to care for Xu Yangyi themselves.

Amidst the noise of the other subordinates, Nan Xiao approached Loong Shen, “Is the colonel going to be okay? Why does he need surgery?” He sounded anxious, and his concern for Hee Jingyan was apparent in his expression.

Loong Shen sighed, “Thanks to our sister-in-law, he broke two ribs.” He didn’t even glance at Xu Yangyi and gestured for him to follow. “Let’s go to the colonel’s residence now.”

Xu Yangyi’s mouth twitched in disbelief. What did Loong Shen just say? He broke two of Hee Jingyan’s ribs thanks to him? Did he accidentally kick him?

Xu Yangyi couldn’t believe it himself. When Ji Guangming invited his sister-in-law, he had even thought, “No way!” Could Hee Jingyan really be that fragile?

“The impact from the car crash was beyond what an ordinary person could handle. Fortunately, I wasn’t seriously injured, but it could have resulted in a massive fracture of the ribs.” Loong Shen suddenly explained to Xu Yangyi, anticipating his thoughts about Hee Jingyan.

Xu Yangyi’s body trembled upon hearing this. A large area of broken ribs? So, he really was severely injured back then. Is this true? Or is he lying?

At that moment, Xu Yangyi remembered what happened in the car. Hee Jingyan had said that he was seriously injured, and Xu Yangyi had told him to be careful.

It was only now that Xu Yangyi realized his mistake. He felt guilty and said sheepishly, “When the surgery is done, please take good care of him. He got hurt because of me, and I broke his ribs.”

As he thought about this, Xu Yangyi’s expression grew even darker. From the corner of his eye, Loong Shen noticed this and smiled, as if he knew Xu Yangyi had realized his mistake.

After they left, the other subordinates couldn’t believe what they had just heard. Sister-in-law broke two of the colonel’s ribs?

They couldn’t wrap their heads around it, but Nan Xiao’s expression grew tense as he paced nervously near the door.
