Chapter 7 – The Figure Seemed Rather Lonely

Yuan Zhan arrived at the company not too early, not too late. However, when he stopped by the office, there were only a few employees in the live game broadcasting center.

The platform of the live game broadcasting center needs to be operated by the technicians and they are supervised by the technical team leader. They all arrived at the company on time while the employees of other departments only enter the door five to ten minutes after the work period begins.

Nine o’clock should be when employees clock in for work, but there were still not enough people by nine-thirty. Yuan Zhan noticed that Bai Yueguang did not arrive at the company until nine-thirty.

After entering the door, Yuan Zhan casually chose a spot to sit down. The employees who weren’t familiar with him all thought that he was a newcomer, so they secretly sized him up. They then brazenly chatted with him while eating their breakfast bread on the side. Yuan Zhan also had a good temper and went along with their discussion. During this course of events, he did not regard himself as the boss.

He chatted with them until Bai Yueguang came in with Assistant Manager Liu. Bai Yueguang’s complexion turned pale when he saw the smiling Yuan Zhan sitting in the first row near the door. Assistant Manager Liu thought that Yuan Zhan said that the meeting will be held at ten o’clock and they must arrive by ten o’clock. Who would have imagined that he came earlier than himself?

Yuan Zhan looked at them and smiled: “Assistant Manager Liu, morning.”

Assistant Manager Liu wiped the sweat from his forehead: “Manager Yuan, good morning. There was a traffic jam so I was late.”

Yuan Zhan continued smiling: “I understand.”

Assistant Manager Liu couldn’t tell if Yuan Zhan was being sincere or mocking him, he immediately invited Yuan Zhan into his new office. Yesterday afternoon, he had already sent someone to come and tidy up the office. Over the next month, before Yuan Zhan finds a suitable office location, he would do his work here. He first needs to thoroughly understand the live streaming rules and regulations of this world.

He also previously worked in a live broadcasting company for many years. Not only did he spend his time on how to play games every day, but he also occasionally learned how to manage the company. He often listened to some lectures from experts invited by the company, all the lectures were on the operations and direction of future development of the company. The development direction was towards the Internet, which was said to be the most direct way of moneymaking. If he has the capital and network, then it was only natural that he would not be willing to sell himself out as a video game streamer. The daily schedule of a video game streamer is irregular and furthermore, there have been cases of sudden deaths due to the continuous live streams for a month without any break.

Yuan Zhan had never considered the issue of cherishing his life before, but now that he has a second chance at life, he ought to cherish his life and take good care of his body.

It’s quick to make money as a streamer, but one must also consider the many hidden dangers in the future. It is better to be your own boss than to be an employee. Just like the situation before, his boss was shortsighted and wanted new employees so he abandoned his old employees with higher asking prices.

If this happened again, Yuan Zhan would really vomit blood.

The new office was neat, tidy, and was also bright. One can see the heavy traffic outside from the window when turned around and can take in the whole scenery of the city. The geographical location chosen by Tiandi Group was actually pretty good.

Yuan Zhan actually thought that the original owner’s family financial situation was quite good and could live out his life entirely depending on dividends. However, he was not the original owner after all. It was impossible for him to live a carefree life with a peace of mind. If he does so, then what’s the difference between that and the original owner? What’s more, Yuan Zhan is currently carrying on the identity of the original owner. So he is the son who “married out.” How much protection can the Yuan family give him anyway? Just excluding his two parents, who know how many brothers and sisters there are, waiting for the properties to be divided to claim their portions of assets.

In fact, the marriage between the original owner and Yan Jingxi was largely facilitated by the two families. Perhaps on the surface, only the Yan family was seen to have benefited from the marriage, but in reality, it was a mutually beneficial cooperation. The main role for the original owner was only to get married to connect the two families, nothing more. As for his emotional problems, not many people would care.

How many marriages out there to unite two families for business purposes were actually fruitful? Take the parents of the original owner as an example, they are the typical married couple formed for the purpose of business alliances between the two families. In the end, they each have their own lives and did not care whether the other have lovers or not. As long as they don’t interfere with each other’s life, then they can look the other way.

The original owner did not inherit the open-minded nature of his parents. He couldn’t look the other way, as a result, he suffered from depression and ended his life at a young age.

From Yuan Zhan’s point of view, it was only after he became Yuan Zhanqi that he sympathized with him.

Merely looking on as a gamer, the original owner was only a male match that people can’t remember at all. Perhaps many players got fed up with his existence. After all, he is one of the existences that hinders the protagonist from capturing Yan Jingxi.

In reality, what was wrong with him? He is only trying to protect his marriage, that’s all. Rather, Bai Yueguang and Yan Jingxi are the real problems.

Yuan Zhan checked the time to see that it was almost ten o’clock. He was looking forward to seeing whether everyone would be present for the meeting.

It’s a usual practice for Assistant Manager Liu to be late for work, but he truly dare not to be late today.

Most people don’t know that Yuan Zhanqi is Madam Yan, but he does.

Assistant Manager Liu did not dare to arrive late and have stressed to the group in advance that they should not be late to the meeting. However, just because he stressed about the meeting, doesn’t mean that the other people would necessarily comply. Procrastination has already become a habit of theirs.

Yuan Zhan, who is sitting on the main seat, was holding a list of names of all the employees within the live broadcasting center. Even though there are not many staffs, there are still close to thirty people on the list.

When it was time, Yuan Zhan didn’t wait, and directly gave a command to Assistant Manager Liu: “Go lock the door. The fellows who are late must be very busy, let them work hard.”

Assistant Manager Liu was afraid that his lax management would run him into trouble. He was somewhat nervous. Don’t be fooled by Madam Yan’s youth. His aura is no worse than President Yan’s, only that the styles of the two are still different to some extent. One is rigid, stern-looking while the other is a smiling tiger1.

1Someone who is cunning and sly, but may not seem so superficially.

Yuan Zhan’s orders, Assistant Manager Liu did not dare to delay. He immediately let someone lock the door to the conference room.

Sweeping his eyes around, Yuan Zhan discovered that Bai Yueguang was nevertheless in the group of the late arrivals. It seems that he was not only a procrastinator but also lazy by nature. How did this kind of person become the protagonist? Were all the men who fancy him all blind?

Yuan Zhan instructed Assistant Manager Liu: “Later, send over all the staffs’ attendance sheets for this month to my desk.”

Assistant Manager Liu wiped off his sweat and weakly nodded: “Certainly.”

The employees at the conference table simultaneously looked as if they were facing a big enemy, revealing subtle expressions. The complexion of the personnel, who had deliberately inquired about Yuan Zhan’s background just now, turned completely pale.

They have never taken the company’s attendance list seriously and Assistant Manager Liu has also previously disregarded it. So who was this person?

The main purpose of the meeting is to make these defiant and undisciplined guys recognize their status. Indeed, they are here through connections, but in the presence of a larger, higher-standing related party, they’re all nothing.

Anyway, Yuan Zhan is about to separate from Yan Jingxi, so how could he possibly still keep them, there is no need at all.

Following the conventional practice, Yuan Zhan made them introduce themselves with their full name, work positions, and the details of their work responsibilities. The staff members did not dare to mess around due to this type of stifling, oppressive atmosphere.

There were thirty employees and only twenty-five were present. It was clear who left and who stayed for a month.

Bai Yueguang, who was locked outside the conference room with the other four employees, was nervous and sweating. If it were not for others who were also kept outside, he really would’ve thought that Yuan Zhan was targeting him alone. He had already thought of an excuse to easily deal with the problem and was prepared to explain to Yan Jingxi the reason why he was late.

However, he was not a special case, and Yuan Zhan also did not give any instructions on what to do with the latecomers.

An hour later, Yuan Zhan and Assistant Manager Liu took the lead to leave the meeting room, and the rest of the people who were sitting in the meeting room were all in shock.

Until the very end of the meeting, they still haven’t figured out what the leaders want to do in the end, but they were completely clear about one thing. That is, their real boss is Manager Yuan.

Once they left the room, they looked at the five colleagues who were left outside with a little sympathy in their eyes.

Assistant Manager Liu ordered someone to sort out the attendances for this month and send it to Yuan Zhan.

Yuan Zhan, who got the attendance sheets, glanced at everyone’s attendance and can only use two words to describe the situation: extremely tragic.

Entirely red, those who were not late are all world-class good employees.

Looking at the five people who were excluded from the meeting. With the exception of one, who had previously requested a sick leave and was still in a somewhat good condition; the other four’s attendances were too horrible to look at. Even Bai Yueguang also did not get to work on time every day.

However, he still has his mission so Bai Yueguang cannot leave for the time being. If he is kept under his eyes, then he can still be able to control the progress of the plotline. At least for the time being, he cannot let Bai Yueguang destroy the progress between Yan Jingxi and himself. For him, bullying one or bullying two simultaneously, there is no difference to it at all.

Is it truly as simple as Yuan Zhan imagined?

In the game, everything he sees came from the protagonist’s, Bai Yueguang, perspective, and he doesn’t know what exactly happened to the original owner. What’s more, he previously had only got to the divorce event of Yan Jingxi and the original owner in the game.

In the course of events of Bai Yueguang capturing Yan Jingxi, apart from the original owner who showed up to hinder him, who else would there be?

Yuan Zhan truly regretted that he originally didn’t first select Yan Jingxi when he played this game, who knows what else is behind the storyline?

He hasn’t read the original work therefore he doesn’t know the exact time of the appearances of Bai Yueguang’s other fiancés.

He currently has to mainly focus on his own task, to let the original owner depart with satisfaction, only then will he be free. Whether it’s a white moonlight or black moonlight, that would no longer matter.

With this time to study Bai Yueguang, it would be better to remind Yan Jingxi to quickly transfer the live streaming platform company under his name.

It was lunchtime once again and Yuan Zhan was not familiar with anyone, so he simply texted Yan Jingxi directly, it was important to complete the task.

Changing the original owner’s manner of speaking and removing the usual inquiry, Yuan Zhan directly gave Yan Jingxi an order through his text message:

[Accompany me for a meal at noon.]

Yan Jingxi instantly replied back:

[No, I have an appointment.]

Yuan Zhan thought that apart from there being a banquet outside, possibly with whom would Yan Jingxi have an appointment. Surely, it must be with Bai Yueguang. After all, that big living person was stuck in the company and how could Yan Jingxi, who was bound by the plot, possibly ignore his existence.

Since he had to complete the task given by the original owner, he definitely would not allow them to see each other, otherwise, Yan Jingxi and Bai Yueguang would develop some rubbish, annoying feelings.

Yuan Zhan tapped his finger on the table, since Yan Jingxi isn’t going to eat lunch with him, that’s okay too.

Leaving the office, Yuan Zhan found Assistant Manager Liu: “Assistant Manager Liu, I’m looking for a quiet restaurant to eat at noon today. I would like to invite everyone to have a meal so that I can get more familiar with them. It would make working together more convenient in the future, tell everyone to attend.”

No participation, then better wait for me2.

2Meaning if they don’t go, they better be ready for the consequences.

Assistant Manager Liu was already thinking of how to present a good image in front of Manager Yuan so he didn’t expect that Manager Yuan would hand out the opportunity himself. He readily agreed: “Okay, I will make sure that they all will attend.”

Yuan Zhan also timely added in some good words: “I certainly feel rest assured when Assistant Manager Liu is the one handling the matter.”

When the employees in the office heard that Manager Yuan is inviting them for a meal, they were all very happy and willing to go. All the women tried their best to tidy themselves up beautifully and the men also were not to be outdone.

Just before walking out the front entrance, Bai Yueguang was still hesitating. Only when a co-worker called out to him, did he finally decline Yan Jingxi’s lunch invitation.

They all had connections, the majority of the people in the group have cars, including Bai Yueguang. However, he forgot to refuel his car last night so today, he had to take the subway after getting up late. Though, he had no experience in squeezing himself into a crowded subway which was why he was late to work today.

Everyone got in the car and there was no more place for Bai Yueguang. At that moment, a sleek, white car stopped in front of him.

Yuan Zhan called out to him: “There is still room in my car, get in.”

With no other choice, Bai Yueguang ultimately got into Yuan Zhan’s car.

Yan Jingxi rejected Yuan Zhan and was then rejected by Bai Yueguang. In the end, he could only ask his assistant to bring him lunch from the cafeteria and settle in his office.

His figure seemed rather lonely.

The author has something to say:

Every day, I get to read comments about the gong and I would feel really happy. Some say he is a scumbag and some say he is pitiful, hahaha.

In fact, if you take the gong to a cat owner, you will find that…the cat is more of a scumbag.

Take the cat raised by my friend as an example, it is a garden cat.

My friend would painstakingly make the cat food, but the cat didn’t eat it and instead kicked it away. The friend would pet it, if the friend didn’t pet it for long enough, the cat would open its mouth to bite. Every month, my friend would spend money to buy all kinds of toys, treats, cans, and cat food. On Singles’ Day, even more money would be spent, the cat food bought by my friend would need to go through international customs. One bag already costs several hundred and only weighs several pounds. Buying one more bag would be over a thousand.

However, the cat is still as cold-hearted as before. Only acknowledging you if it wants to and if it doesn’t want to, it will not pay attention to you.

Truly, cannot be any worse. A scumbag, but one would still have to continue raising, serving, and slaving away for it.

By comparison, rounding down, the gong is actually not a scum. En!
