Chapter 24.3 – Taste

After the two sat down, the waiter, who was wearing a blue cheongsam, pointed to the QR code pasted on the corner of the table and said, “Please scan the QR code to place an order.” 

“Okay,” said Su Yan, who immediately clicked on WeChat and scanned the two QR codes, and at the same time said to Bai Xingfan, “You can also scan one and order whatever you want.”

Bai Xingfan was very polite. “Since it is Miss Su’s treat, of course, it is Miss Su’s decision.”

Actually, Su Yan liked this kind of food very much. When ordering food, she liked to be in control, so she just smiled and replied with a domineering tone, “Hey, if this is the case, then I will not be polite.” 

Bai Xingfan couldn’t hold back the corners of his lips.

Su Yan ordered four dishes. Mao Xue Wang, stir-fried fat intestines, spicy chicken, and shredded cabbage.

[TL Notes: Mao Xue wang is made from tripe, chicken gizzard, duck blood curd, and other organ meats cooked in a peppercorn and chilli-flavoured broth.]

She liked spicy food, but she had chosen slightly spicy flavours for every dish because she still remembered Bai Xingfan’s dietary preferences—he didn’t like too much sweetness, didn’t like too much spicy, and didn’t like too much oil, like an elderly person.

It was only then that she realised that inviting Bai Xingfan to eat Sichuan food was not a wise decision. So before placing the order, she hesitated again, looked at Bai Xingfan with a little guilt, and asked timidly, “How about we change the restaurant?”

Bai Xingfan: “What’s the matter? The dishes don’t suit your taste?”

Su Yan said honestly, “I don’t think it suits your taste.”

Bai Xingfan frowned. “It’s rare that Miss Su still remembers my taste!”

She was annoyed. “I should order you a whole spicy feast, every dish has a thick layer of red oil, so that you can see an anorectal doctor after eating!”

Bai Xingfan: “…”

Su Yan snorted again. “Don’t mock me in the future!”

Bai Xingfan smiled wryly and gave in. “Okay, I’m wrong, I admit my mistake.”

Su Yan was satisfied at this point and asked again, “Do you want to change the store?”

Bai Xingfan asked back, “If you really change, will you always miss this Sichuan restaurant?”

Su Yan: ‘Yes. I will.’ Her two slender black eyebrows were twisted into two small mountains. Bai Xingfan saw what she was thinking at a glance, and said with a smile, “Then don’t change it.”

Su Yan was a little embarrassed. “Can you handle this food, then?”

“It doesn’t have to be a whole spicy feast.” Bai Xingfan said solemnly, “I have no plans to go to the anorectal department for now.”

Su Yan: ‘ Hmph… You are mocking me again!’ She rolled her eyes uncontrollably and continued to order.

Not long after, the waiter placed a small hourglass on their table, saying that if all the sand in the hourglass was drained and the dishes were not served at that time, the order would be free.

Su Yan had seen this kind of waiver activity a lot, but she was really waived every time, so she didn’t have any hope this time. The facts proved that it was right to give up hope. When there was still a little sand left in the hourglass, the food came to their table.

While eating, Su Yan noticed that Bai Xingfan only picked up spicy chicken and shredded cabbage. He didn’t even move the stir-fried fat intestines, and he didn’t even pick up the green pepper.

“You don’t eat fatty intestines?” She had never eaten fatty intestines at Bai Xingfan’s mansion, so she didn’t know if Bai Xingfan would accept it.

Bai Xingfan: “Yeah.”

Su Yan: “I didn’t eat it when I was a child, but I ate it again for some reason, and it tastes really good.” She sighed wistfully and said, “Hey, I also eat fatty meat now.”

Bai Xingfan: “It’s better to have something you like than not to like anything at all.”

Su Yan’s eyes lit up, and she nodded heavily, agreeing with Bai Xingfan. “You’re right!”

A piece of fat sausage came out, and she looked at Bai Xingfan expectantly. “Would you like to have a taste?”

Bai Xingfan said firmly, “No.”

Su Yan said positively, “It’s delicious! And it moistens the intestines, it’s great. This reduces the probability of going to the anorectal department.”

Bai Xingfan still had the same attitude. “No, I don’t eat.”

Su Yan said without thinking, “Xie Yu didn’t eat it before, but then I…” Halfway through the sentence, she realised that she actually mentioned the dogman’s name, which really affected her appetite, so she quickly swallowed the last half of the sentence to her stomach, and said, “It’s fine if you don’t like it. Each person has his own taste.”

Bai Xingfan subconsciously clenched the chopsticks in his hand, and his thin lips almost formed a straight line.

The atmosphere was slightly awkward.

Fortunately, Su Yan’s cell phone rang suddenly—it was a call from the delivery guy.

After hanging up the phone, she got up quickly and said to Bai Xingfan, “I’ll go get the takeaway drinks that I ordered before.”

The delivery guy was waiting for her at the door of the store, and after picking up her takeaway, Su Yan said “thank you” to the delivery guy, then she went back to the store. It didn’t take more than two minutes to come back, but when she walked back to the dining table, Bai Xingfan had disappeared.

Su Yan was so surprised and looked around for Bai Xingfan in the store, but she couldn’t find him, so she went to the waitress who was in charge of serving their table. “Hello, did you see the other guest who was eating with me?”

Because of Bai Xingfan’s outstanding appearance and temperament, the waitress was very impressed with him, but when she heard Su Yan’s question, she showed embarrassment. “That gentleman just tried to eat a piece of fat sausage.”

Su Yan was full of doubts and hurriedly asked, “And then?”

The waitress said, “Then, then… he ran to the bathroom with his mouth covered.”
