Yan Yan

Chapter 29.1

Chapter 29.1 – Fireworks

When she was dating Xie Yu, she told him about her birthday, and he promised that he would celebrate her birthday with her every year.

She was deeply moved at the time, and for the first time in her life, she was eagerly anticipating her birthday. However, it eventually turned out that everything he had promised her had been an illusion, and the lovely illusion was shattered with a poke.

After what happened on her wedding day, Su Yan no longer had any expectations for her birthday.

Hearing Xie Yu’s words, Su Yan didn’t feel anything but disgust. “I don’t need your blessings. Don’t call me again.” After finishing speaking, she hung up the phone without hesitation and then blocked the unknown number. She has already blocked all of Xie Yu’s contact information, but she had no way of predicting in advance what Xie Yu’s newly registered mobile phone number would be.

Her happy mood was completely ruined by the unexpected call, so she no longer wanted to eat cake. Despite having waited a long time to purchase the cake, she placed it in the refrigerator and exited the shop.

It was still seven o’clock in the evening. She went to the convenience store on the way to buy something to eat, as she planned to watch a movie after going to the hotel.

There was a home theatre in her hotel room: a super-sized projection screen, a white leather viewing sofa, and a surround sound system. She had been yearning to watch a film from the first day she stepped into this room but never got a chance.

Fortunately, she got off work early today, and all the work was postponed for one day, so she didn’t have to continue to work today, and finally had time to devote herself to the embrace of the home theatre.

In order to have a good time watching a movie, she not only bought two boxes of ice cream for herself but also bought a lot of snacks and two bottles of fruit wine, one bottle of plum-flavoured sake, and the other bottle of sakura-flavoured sweet wine.

It was still summer, so when she arrived at the entrance of the hotel, she was sweating, and as soon as she entered the hotel, cold air inside the hotel rushed towards her face, making her very comfortable, and her mood immediately improved a lot. However, in the next second, she froze her steps and stared blankly at the man sitting in the middle of the hotel lobby.

Today, Bai Xingfan wore a light grey suit, a white inside shirt, and a black tie. The platinum Patek Philippe on his left wrist contrasted with the silver tie clip. Furthermore, he emitted a nobility that was innate and deeply ingrained in his bones—not the kind of nobility that results from dressing up; rather, he exuded a demeanour that common people could never learn to possess. After seeing Su Yan, his expression did not change, and he calmly tapped the armrest of the sofa with his right index finger a few times.

Su Yan was dumbfounded, and she couldn’t think of what to do.

Bai Xingfan sighed lightly and stood up from the sofa.

Su Yan eventually came to her senses, pursed her lips uncomfortably, and then, without any word, she lowered her gaze and walked with her head buried toward the elevator.

Bai Xingfan also followed her without saying a word.

At that time, there were only two of them in the elevator, and Su Yan felt more uncomfortable being with Bai Xingfan in such a small space.

None of them talked at first. Su Yan urged herself silently as she gripped the canvas bag and buried her head deeply. ‘He is the one who is ashamed, not me, not me!’

However, this self-suggestion couldn’t save her embarrassment.

The hotel had thirty-six floors total, and the elevator had not yet reached the eighteenth floor. Su Yan couldn’t help but ask. Gritting her teeth, she glanced at the reflection of Bai Xingfan on the elevator door in front of her and asked in a low voice, “What are you doing? Why are you here?”

Bai Xingfan didn’t change his face and said in a low voice, “Didn’t Miss Su say it earlier? Let me take care of you.”

Su Yan: “…”

She really did say it because she wanted to borrow Bai Xingfan’s name to prevent the script from being changed. But at that time, she thought of him as an ordinary friend. But after that time, things were different. She clearly knew that Bai Xingfan hadn’t given up on her. Additionally, she had promised herself that she wouldn’t take help from him anymore.

Su Yan became more and more embarrassed—so embarrassed that she could dig a hole out of the sole with her toes. But she couldn’t show that. So she replied, while trying not to show her embarrassed expression to him, “Thank you, but there is no need to continue to help in the future. They will definitely not change the script again. Besides, it’s troublesome for you to come all the way from Dongfu.”

Bai Xingfan looked down at Su Yan in the mirror. “Miss Su means that you don’t need me now, right?”

Su Yan : “…” ‘Why do you speak so resentfully? It made me look like a bad woman crossing rivers and tearing down bridges!’ She couldn’t help blushing and saying anxiously, “I didn’t mean that!”

Bai Xingfan asked again, “Then what does Miss Su mean?”

Su Yan bit her lower lip, hesitated for a while, and said honestly, “Don’t waste your time on me. There is no result.”

Bai Xingfan: “This is my business, it has nothing to do with you.”

Su Yan felt her blood boiling, but she couldn’t scold Bai Xingfan as she wished. She took a deep breath to calm her temper and said with a hint of anger in her voice, “We are really not suitable, and I am not suitable for you. You deserve someone better.”

“You are the best for me.” Bai Xingfan’s voice was calm and firm; like a dose of poison, it instantly paralysed Su Yan’s willpower, causing dizziness to arise spontaneously. Her emotions and reason both fell into a state of being out of control.

She got the feeling that the only thing stopping her from running wild was the one remaining reason. She would become desperate and hit the southern wall as soon as emotion overrode reason or reason broke down. The southern wall of her world was the man who was currently standing next to her.

She remained silent not because she had nothing to say but because she was desperately trying to maintain her sanity, not allowing any distractions.

Fortunately, Bai Xingfan didn’t speak again; otherwise, she really couldn’t continue to resist.

The elevator came to the 36th floor, and with the “ding” sound of the elevator door opening, Su Yan felt like she had stepped into her safe haven. She quickly walked out of the elevator and walked towards her room without looking back, leaving Bai Xingfan far behind.

But when she walked to the door of the room, she realized that the room card was still in the wallet, and the wallet was at the bottom of the stuffed canvas bag she held in her arms.

With a long sigh, she bent down and put the bag on the ground, then squatted down, and just as she was about to flip through the wallet, the door opened with a “beep”.

Bai Xingfan opened the door with his room card.

Su Yan squatted on the ground, looked up at the tall Bai Xingfan, and suddenly felt like a stupid little cat. After a few seconds, she regained her senses and got up slowly.

Bai Xingfan gently pushed open the door, and said softly, “Go in.”

Su Yan walked into the room silently with her head down. As soon as she entered the room, a suitcase near the shoe cabinet came into her view. She recognised that suitcase; it belonged to Bai Xingfan. It seemed that he had arrived at the hotel earlier, but instead of waiting for her in the room, he went to the first floor and sat in the lobby, waiting for her to come back.
