MMORPG: Crowd Control

297 Worldwide Alarm

A few days had passed since the embarrassing incident of Samantha attempting to unlock Lei Zhen's phone in secret.

Given that the two of them were adults and mature people, they decided that it was best to not discuss the matter again, or at least not until the later future.

"You're awake huh. Breakfast is almost finished. I just need to brew some morning tea and we can have it ready." Lei Zhen said calmly when he heard the footsteps sound by the hall, his hands' busy multitasking in cooking numerous foods at the same time.

"Thanks," Samantha calmly said and took a seat by the table.

Her eyes were glancing at the bountiful breakfast dishes on the table, almost as if she was being served at a fancy restaurant.

"You didn't have to cook this much, Lei Zhen. Just a toast with the toaster machine is enough for breakfast." She then said, thinking that he didn't have to waste his sleeping time to wake up early to make breakfast.

As a doctor herself, she knew that Lei Zhen might be an assistant only, but that assistant work is no different than the workload of a doctor. Thus, she didn't want him to become sleep deprived just to give her a satisfying breakfast meal.

Lei Zhen chuckled softly as he took off his apron and placed a cup of morning tea on the table.

"This isn't much at all, Samantha." Lei Zhen calmly said.

"Back when I was still at my old apartment, I would still cook myself a breakfast meal because a morning meal is extremely important to one's health."

"Breakfast meal is important, but it doesn't have to be this fancy. If you wanted this, then we could have just ordered food delivery since they would arrive almost instantly. No need to sacrifice your sleep for it." Samantha rebuked, seemingly disagreeing with the fact that he might be sacrificing his sleep.

"Well, too bad then." Lei Zhen smirked and sat down, grabbing a biscuit and eating it.

Seeing how nonchalant he was and the clear attitude he had on this matter, Samantha sighed softly.

"You better not be thinking of getting me addicted to this feeling." She then warned, refusing to let him have the upper hand.

As a woman, how could she not understand that this was his method of gaining favorable points in his portfolio?

Meanwhile, Lei Zhen shrugged his shoulders, not admitting or denying the matter. It was best to remain unclear and make her overthink so that his image would appear in her memory.

"Anyway, have you relayed the information I've found to the hospital directors yet?" Lei Zhen suddenly asked, changing the topic.

Samantha nodded her head.

"Yeah, I've sent it to them already and they are already making a move. As for the media, we plan on keeping the matter confidential for now, preventing the culprit from knowing that we have learned of their methods."

"Agreed, if the culprit realized we know their strategy, then they might alter their method or even plan overall. It would be increasingly difficult for us to catch them if that were to happen."

Samantha drank her morning tea with a sullen expression, clearly displeased with the workload she got because of a video game.

Lei Zhen raised an eyebrow when he noticed her unusual expression.

"Why do I have a feeling that you are sullen not because of the workload, but the fact that I told you not to play Magnolia for the time being?" He then asked.

And sure enough, he noticed Samantha's body tremble slightly.

"..."

Feigning ignorance, Samantha decided to play it cool and casually eat some of the biscuits while avoiding eyesight from him.

"Samantha?"

"Alright, you've caught me. Are you happy now?" Samantha suddenly pouted and placed the biscuit down on the plate.

"I'm already stressed constantly at work and finally decided to have some fun in these games that young teenagers enjoy. And I was having a great time with the skeleton soldiers that I summoned. They were all so cute and deadly at the same time, exactly like my personality." She added.

It was the first time that Lei Zhen had heard her vent, and for some reason, he was smiling uncontrollably.

"Go ahead and vent out your frustration. This is your home, so no one else would know about it." Lei Zhen encouraged, seemingly trying to listen more to her vent.

"No, I refuse to let you see me acting so immaturely."

"But haven't you already shown me the immature side? What's the matter with showing more or less anyway?"

"Hmph, keep talking and I'll drive today. Let's see how I'm going to make you vomit everything you ate for breakfast." She clicked her tongue and threatened.

The threat was super effective because Lei Zhen instantly shut his mouth and refrained from taunting any further.

Who was he kidding?

Her driving skills previously might have been disguised as a therapy treatment for him, but he knew damn well that she was truly that hectic of a driver.

"That's what I've thought!" Samantha sneered coldly when she grabbed onto his weakness successfully.

And with that said, the breakfast proceeded smoothly as they soon made their way to the garage to drive toward the hospital.

Meanwhile, a worldwide alarm had been sounded as more and more players from all over the world had become affected, unable to exit their MagnoPod.

Media soon labeled this incident as the Locked Cage, a term to describe that the affected players are forever locked in a cage known as the MagnoPod.

Numerous news outlets were interviewing the affected players' parents, asking how they feel about this incident and what they would do against the company, Tundra.

Samantha, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, had her tablet out, watching the current news media, displaying the reporters' frenzy of questioning.

"Madam, your son was trapped in the MagnoPod for 3 weeks now. How do you feel about it and do you plan on seeking legal action against Tundra Company?"

"It was said that the Tundra Company's location is still unknown to the public till this day, and it would be difficult to even serve them legal papers."

"Would you direct your target to the hospital that tried to keep this news hidden from the public instead?"

By the time a reporter had asked the last question, Samantha was already twitching her brows as she closed the tablet right away.

"What kind of trash reporter was that? Just because the Tundra Company cannot be served, they are going to point their spears at the hospital?"

Samantha was astonished to watch such a lunatic scene unfold in her very eyes.

"Well, it's true that the affected players' parents can't do anything against the Tundra Company. Till this day, no one knows where Tundra Company operates, so how could it be possible to have them being served compared to the known hospital location?" Lei Zhen stepped on the brake at the red light and added his comment.

To be served legally, the opposing party must be notified of the legal action being taken against them. Otherwise, the suing party could not legally take action if the opposing party remained ignorant of the matter.

It was a messed up legal system that forced the suing party to inform the opposite party of the time and date when they must appear in court.

After all, if they don't appear in court because they didn't receive a legal action notice, then they aren't responsible for any punishment and would be freed from any legal liabilities.

"So you're telling me the hospital is going to become a scapegoat now?" Samantha turned to him and asked in disbelief.

Lei Zhen nodded his head.

"That's right! Because only the hospital can technically be sued now for the matter of concealing this incident from the public. Though to actually be charged legally, it would be a difficult matter for those parents as well. They'll need to prove that the hospital has intentionally concealed and deceived the public." He then explained.

"Well, isn't that just stupid then? The hospital is the one trying to save their damn son or daughter, but they are now trying to point their spear at their very lifesaver at the moment?"

"As I've said, it's a messed up legal system in a messed up world. The parents are confused right now, and they probably don't even know what they're doing currently." Lei Zhen shrugged his shoulders, shifting his feet to step on the accelerator pedal now that the traffic light had turned green.

Meanwhile, Samantha rubbed her temples continuously, getting a huge migraine at the development.

"How did you know all these legal things anyway though, Lei Zhen?" She suddenly asked.

Lei Zhen grabbed the steering wheel tightly.

"I studied some of the laws when I was trying to reverse the decision of those shareholders. Though it was a pointless attempt by me because they have done everything legally and I couldn't find a flaw." He smiled bitterly.
