MMORPG: Crowd Control

298 Lao Ting’s Daughter

Throughout their way toward the hospital, Samantha decided to keep silent about the legal matters that their hospital might be facing.

After all, she had unintentionally hooked in some of Lei Zhen's painful memories of the past by asking why he was so familiar with the legal matters.

Ever since Lei Zhen was kicked out by the shareholders, he had thought they must have used some unscrupulous means to do it, only to realize the shareholders were extremely shrewd to hire legal counselors, who proceeded to teach them how to kick him out legally.

And just like that, Lei Zhen couldn't even get a second chance in attempting to gain a foothold at the Lei Enterprise until Lei Qingxuan finally showed some signs of awakening.

Once Lei Qingxuan awakened, the shareholders could try to do whatever method they want, but it would be impossible to strip her of the shares that are currently frozen.

'Just these shareholders wait. The beckoning revenge would be sweet as honey.' Lei Zhen thought to himself.

Sometime later, Lei Zhen parked the car neatly at the garage spot dedicated to Samantha, and the security guard, Lao Ting was swift to greet Samantha.

"Good morning, Doctor Samantha. There's been a lot of reporters coming in lately, so even though this parking garage is secure, I'm afraid those reporters would be camping by the elevators. Hence, I'm instructed to bring you to the private elevator to avoid Doctor Samantha from being hindered by these reporters." Lao Ting explained straightforwardly without missing a single beat.

It was an impressive feat for Lao Ting to be able to say all of those without needing to pause for a moment. In addition to that, Lao Ting still kept his vigilance against Lei Zhen, seemingly telling him that he was still being watched.

Lei Zhen could only smile awkwardly at Lao Ting's reaction to a father guarding their daughter from being snatched by others.

He had been informed by Samantha previously that Lao Ting used to have a daughter around her age, but because of an unfortunate incident, his daughter died, leaving him heartbroken.

It was a dark time for Lao Ting, but when Samantha appeared, Lao Ting revitalized his motivation and energy to live on, seemingly seeing Samantha as his deceased daughter.

Hence, Lao Ting was always overly protective of Samantha, preventing any bastards from being able to harm her. His overprotection wasn't to the extreme though, thus Samantha didn't mind the action of Lao Ting, who meant only goodwill toward her.

"No need to be so harsh toward Lei Zhen, Lao Ting. He's not the same kind of scoundrel that attempted to harm me in the past." Samantha smiled briefly and explained to Lao Ting, seemingly trying to get him to lower his vigilance.

Hearing that from Samantha, Lao Ting was astonished for a few seconds. It was hard for him to believe that someone could actually get Samantha to vouch for their character.

"If you say it like that, then I would refrain from acting much." Lao Ting said, turning his attention to Lei Zhen. "I'm warning you brat. If I see Samantha getting harmed in any way, then I'm coming after you."

"Rest assured, Lao Ting. Even if I'm going to be harmed, I won't allow anyone to harm Samantha." Lei Zhen patted his chest and said calmly. For some reason though, he felt a bit awkward saying such words, almost as if he was being interrogated by a father-in-law.

It was a weird yet somewhat natural feeling. Very contradicting in Lei Zhen's mind.

Lao Ting merely nodded his head as he walked away, seemingly going back to check up on the security. He was a busy man as well being a security guard and only occasionally would leave his post temporarily to make sure Samantha was fine.

Now the time was even more turmoil because of the public opinion going against the hospital.

'These parents are really intolerable and unreasonable. The one that should be blamed is them for allowing their children to game all day and night, failing to fulfill their duty.' Lao Ting exclaimed inwardly.

As Lao Ting walked away, Lei Zhen and Samantha heed the advice of the former and went to the private elevator. The private elevator required pupil scan to work and only those in the higher-up are allowed to use it.

Henceforth, ordinary hospital workers could only grit their teeth and use the public elevator. But luckily for Lei Zhen, he could tag along with Samantha to access the private elevator for free.

Once they were inside the private elevator, Samantha turned her attention to Lei Zhen.

"Don't mind Lao Ting's behavior, Lei Zhen. He's overreacting right now because there have been some men in the past that had tried to harm me. Although they are incapable of doing much harm to me, Lao Ting happened to witness such an incident and recall his deceased daughter." She gently explained.

Her facial expression didn't change much, but Lei Zhen could tell from her eyes that there was much more to the unfortunate incident of Lao Ting's daughter that he wasn't informed about.

All Lei Zhen knew was that Lao Ting's daughter died from an unfortunate incident and that was about it. Samantha didn't brief him more nor did he wish to pry into other people's secrets.

There was a bit of thought that Lei Zhen had come up with, but didn't dare to voice it out.

Meanwhile, Samantha smiled bitterly as she knew there was no point in hiding it anymore.

"What you're thinking right now is exactly what happened to Lao Ting's daughter." She said in a tranquil tone.

And she continued, "Lao Ting's daughter was a beauty and a rising star in the medical field. Because of that, she was targeted by vile men and was violated during one of her night shifts. This incident was covered by the hospital, but all involved people were punished in an underground matter to pacify the government."

It was at this moment that Lei Zhen realized just who Lao Ting's daughter was. "Don't tell me… Lao Ting's daughter is the rising medical star that vanished from the public eye, Rebecca."
