“I will spend my whole life to atone for it. And this time I will definitely be Liz’s strength. Eugene, in my previous life—”

Keefa swore to himself when he heard from Liz the story about the truth of his previous life.

Cecil, whom he thought would never see again, met her reincarnation, Liz. He’s thankful about it. Liz is alive. Living, moving, eating, running, and laughing. Although she rarely laughs in front of Keefa, he can still see her laughing with the other candidates. For him, it’s enough. She’s living in this world again and that’s enough.

“Nice to meet you, Your Highness, Prince Keefa. We are finally able to meet.”

In front of the temple dining area, Sheena, who has Cecil’s face, smiled.

He was surprised and in an instant, he was dragged into his past life. In a room in that old residential home, Cecil is smiling right before his eyes. He felt dizzy, but at the same time, “Cecil? No way. Liz is here. Who are you?”

     ‘Impossible.’ He strongly thought.

There’s someone with the same face as Cecil. And there was no way that would appear before Keefa. Still, when he actually sees Cecil moving, his heart shook. He isn’t attracted to Sheena, he’s well aware that she’s a different person. However, it seems that his dear lover he had broken up with in the past life is alive and he was quite happy. He knows what’s important and was very surprised to see Sheena. Though, he still knows who he really wanted to protect.

However, Liz suddenly speaks, “Well then, I’ll be going.” Despite turning pale, she was determined to leave. Leaving Keefa behind with Sheena.

He was shocked. He knew that Liz doesn’t really look at him. She wanted Eugene in their previous life, not Keefa.

However, for Keefa, Liz is very important. He caught her arm as he followed her. His intention was, however, half-way behind him now, he felt dismayed. Liz’s head was so close, her soft body was against his chest, touching his arms.

Despite his confusion, her reaction was cold, “what?” she calmly asked. He was conscious of it and he became depressed.

“I will find out who Sheena Blyde is. It’s no accident that a woman who looks like Cecil now appears before us.”

As he spoke, Liz turned to his anxious face. He’s relieved and reassured. Keefa was relieved, but at the same time he thought that he was being told that he had been saying “That’s what I’ve told you.” He was even more depressed on how little reliability she had of him.

The next day, someone called from behind in the hallway. Looking back, Sheena was there and Keefa froze.

“Your Highness……” Sheena approached him with a smile.

Whenever Keefa takes a step back, she takes a step closer. Her eyes are not looking away from Keefa.

‘Stop it!’ He wanted to hold his head and shout.

Sheena tried to hide it, but her thoughts were leaking. She knew the power of her face to Keefa and she’s proud of it. She was enjoying Keefa’s confusion and dismay.

There was a feeling of dislike and disgust. In any other appearance, he doesn’t care, but if it’s with Cecil’s face, he would rather for her not do that expression. Keefa was a commoner in his previous life. He knows how the royal family would look  and what value he had for the people. It’s understandable why they have the desire to approach him.

It doesn’t really matter. Unless you sincerely think of the person. Sheena doesn’t see Keefa. What she doesn’t see isn’t Keefa but herself, the glamorous Sheena who’s envied by others gained by being close to the Crown Prince.

What would one could get from Keefa, the benefits one will receive. That’s all she sees. Keefa has understood commoners, nobles, and royalties since he has experienced all of it.

     “Your Highness Keefa —”

She even tried to touch his body first. He wanted to cry out for her to stop. He doesn’t want to see that in Cecil’s face so he turned away.

“Actually, I don’t think Liz likes me…” Sheena let out a lonely voice.

“She’s cold when I’m alone with her, but the moment that there’s another man, she becomes more amiable.” Sheena complained, but Keefa felt that when she said “Liz” there was like a quick breeze as if a close window in a dark room had opened and fresh air had blown in.

After, Keefa let out a laugh and left.

Later in Liz’s room, she said in a serious expression, “I think Sheena is another person who turned herself to look like Cecil.”

At that time, he felt something connect in his head.

Previously Liz said, “When I saw Duke Igner, I had a scene from the previous life flash before my eyes.” He also hurriedly left when the ring in Keefa’s hand caught his eye before… Such information.

So, he had her change her face into Cecil and sent Sheena to Keefa. He probably knew that he was Eugene. Also, the duke has always wanted his daughter, Grace to marry him. He has long tried to push the idea towards him.

This time, he tried a different scheme.

If Keefa had not known that Liz was Cecil’s reincarnation, he would have thought that Sheena was a descendant of Cecil. He’d think that she’s the descendant of a child born between Cecil and the one she had married. However, Sheena said that she was an orphan and he would think that it was fate, which the duke wanted him to think so.

It’s a similar scenario from his  former life. Regardless of the other person or their feelings, using them with no care like a small chess piece.

‘Was it Bauer, the head butler of the Howard family?’

Keefa had goosebumps all over as he desperately suppressed his rage. This is only a speculation. He needed to find evidence.

“Who’s the person who changed her face?” Keefa leaned forward. That person must have something to do with the duke.

“I don’t know. I’m just getting Lloyd’s investigation, so I’ll tell you when I get it.”

“—why not Lloyd, not me?” He suddenly blurted out. It was his honest feeling, but then he turned pale.

     ‘The lowest’

He was able to see Liz again. Alive in front of his eyes and it was enough. He was very thankful. Despite that, everytime he sees Liz with Lloyd, he sees them conversing with a familiar and relaxed air, unlike when she’s with him. He felt his heart stung.

In his last life, they were lovers who promised to marry. Cecil’s heart and affections were directed at Eugene. But this life is different. Liz is not Keefa’s lover, let alone  a close friend. He is just another person that she knows.

Keefa intends to compensate Liz for what he has done. To do so, he’ll protect her and give full support to her happiness. Even if it would mean that in the future, she’d fall in love with someone else and marry him. He’d smile and give a heartfelt laugh as he’d see them off—

     ‘No.’

His chest tightened. The thought was unbearably painful as he fell into self-loathing. He knew and understood what this feeling is. It was a feeling he remembered he felt in his previous life. Whenever he’d see Cecil talking to the baker’s son of a nearby bakery, or when she’d have a casual talk or story about someone, a man, in her work when they’d eat their supper.

It’s jealousy. Back then, he’ll just pull Cecil towards him and tightly hug her. She’d then laugh and hug him back. But now, it’s different.

     ‘How selfish.’

He can’t help but feel depressed.

He shouldn’t be presumptuous. Afterall, Liz has only thought of Eugene, she hasn’t thought much about Keefa. And yet, he’s quite envious of Lloyd, who she relies on at her side.

“Only Lloyd here knows the other man in fact—”

“Yes, I know. I’m sorry.” He responded to the puzzled Liz. An awkward air flowed between them and Keefa hurriedly spoke to change the atmosphere, “So another person knows Cecil, what did you mean by that?”

He wondered how Liz was aware of it. Did she think that the duke might be the butler?

     “Duke Igner?” he asked.

Liz shuddered as she nodded. He thought about how frightened she was. He always looked dignified, but now it was ephemeral. It will be fine. He’ll protect her, however he was embarrassed to say that.

“I’m glad Liz is here.” That’s all he can say.

Liz stared at him hard, trying to read him with her deep red eyes. Keefa panicked and added,  “If I didn’t know that Liz was the reincarnation of Cecil. I wouldn’t have the confidence to be calm once I saw Sheena’s face.”

She gave him a soft smile, “ I know.” It was like her frightened state earlier had vanished.

     ‘—yes.’

That’s good. Keefa felt relieved as he smiled slowly.

     The prime minister approached him.

“Sheena’s guide? Why?” Keefa asked in confusion. He doesn’t know that much about the temple.

The prime minister smiled, “Your Highness is fit for the task. Sheena does not know anyone around and would be lonely. Just think of her as a companion, someone to talk to.”

     “But—”

“She also said that she has always adored His Highness. If the Saint of Colorado, who is popular among the people, can show that she is close to the Imperial Highness, it may also directly increase the favorability of the Royal Family.”

Keefa stared at the prime minister. The prime minister is on good terms with the duke. Since long ago, whenever the duke would visit the royal palace, they would often meet and talk to each other.

     ‘It’s better not to decline.’

He has not yet found evidence about the relationship between Sheena and the duke. It was reported that the man who was seen talking to Sheena looked like a servant of Duke Igner. Though he knew, the duke is like a racoon dog,  dangerous and can be ferocious.

Keefa sighed. If he can’t take a hold on the duke, he might as well try to get information from Sheena. Plus, the palace seems to be in a fuss recently. In order to lessen the problems, he must find the connection between Sheena and the Duke as soon as possible.

     “All right.”

The room next to the compound room in the temple was crowded. There he met Sheena. Why did he guide her to such a place? To be honest, he was reluctant, but he also can’t help it. From the next compound room, he heard the sound of Holy Dragon’s “Kyu!” and in spite of himself, he smiled. Then followed several voices. Liz was also there. Even though he was asked to be her guide, they might be misunderstood if they see him alone with Sheena.

As he stood up, Sheena spoke, “You look tired. Are you alright?” her voice sounded gentle and sincere as she let out a smile.

He was surprised and quickly lifted his face to look at her.

     ‘What?’

The atmosphere around her is completely different from the Sheena before. The Sheena, who had been trying to get Keefa’s attention for her own selfish desire. It felt as if she had made up her mind, ready to do something else.

‘What’s going on? Does it have anything to do with  the Duke’s order or something?’

Something different from what he was expecting from her came out as he deeply stared at Sheena.
