Chapter 8 - Bridal Carry (1)

Hu YuJiao had been living with the Chi’s since she was 13 years old. 

They had provided her with room and board and paid for her tuition all these years. The Chi’s had been nothing but nice to her. 

Chi YunChen’s words made everyone look over at Hu YuJiao. They all waited for her to explain herself. 

Hu YuJiao’s fingers were twisted together. She looked over at Su Man-er. She was just about to say something when Su Man-er sneered, “Please don’t say that you gave the money to me and I was the one who gave that to Lil' Duck Egg. I can’t handle such slander!”

Hu YuJiao’s breathing paused for a second, that was exactly what she had in mind. She wanted to say that she had given the money to Su Man-er and had no idea why she had given that to Lil' Duck Egg. 

She had wanted to pinned everything on Su Man-er, but now she wasn’t able to say it out loud after Su Man-er had already called her out preemptively. 

“Hu YuJiao, that was insolent. We have all seen how nicely the Chi’s had treated you all these years. Chi YunChen had finally found himself a wife and you wanted to get rid of her like that? What was going through your mind?!” A woman that was in her late 20’s quickly figured out the real culprit.

This woman had some education back in her days and was one of the more intelligent ones. Looking at what had happened, it wasn’t difficult to figure out what was going on. Obviously, Hu YuJiao was trying to set up Su Man-er and ruin her reputation. 

As soon as she finished talking, a few others chimed in to agree with her, “That’s right, YuJiao. You had gone too far this time. How could you do that?”

Hu YuJiao gritted her teeth. She had spent all these years pretending to be docile, fragile, and virtuous. The good image that she had built up with the villagers was ruined in one day!

She felt burning with hate and horribly wronged!

She took a deep breath and looked over at Chi YunChen while portraying a fragile look. She wanted to say something to him, but Su Man-er suddenly curved her lips, smiled, and said, “YuJiao, you like my husband too, don’t you?”

Hu YuJiao, “……” Her breathing paused for a second, and panic flashed across her face. She turned to look at Su Man-er and saw the profound look on her face.

Su Man-er snickered and said, “I have seen you looking at my husband passionately before. I couldn’t ignore the emotions in your eyes even if I tried. Before YunChen and I got married, you tried to vilify YunChen in front of me. You told me that he has a bad temper and might even hit me in the future. And that he is not an ambitious man and wouldn’t be able to provide a good life for me. Tsk, tsk. The whole time I thought you had my best interest in mind. Come to think about it now, you just didn’t want me to marry YunChen, so you can have him to yourself!”

Everybody’s eyes widened as they looked at Hu YuJiao. They couldn’t believe that Hu YuJiao would stoop so low and said all those things about Chi YunChen behind his back. 

Luckily ,Su Man-er didn’t listen to Hu YuJiao. Had she believed in what she was told, she’d never have married Chi YunChen. 

Chi YunChen’s look was so dark as though a thunderstorm was about to hit. 

He looked coldly at Hu YuJiao; the contempt in his eyes was obvious. 

Seeing the look on Chi YunChen, Hu YuJiao paused for a little bit, and she felt a pang of pain in her heart.

She couldn’t believe that’s how he was looking at her.

He looked at her with such… disgust, after finding out about her feelings for him.

She bit her lip. “No, I didn’t say those words. Man-er made that up to smear my name.”

“Oh yeah? Did I now? Then why don’t you look into YunChen’s eyes and tell him that you have no feelings for him. That you’d rather die than to marry him in this lifetime!” Su Man-er said with a cold and condensed look. Each word of hers hit Hu YuJiao like a rock on her heart. 

Hu YuJiao gripped her hands tightly. Her nails were digging into her palms. 

She couldn’t believe that woman Su Man-er was doing this to her. How could she do this to her?!

“Hu YuJiao, you don’t dare say that, do you? If you won’t say that, then you’re admitting to the fact that you have feelings for Chi YunChen. It is precisely because you have feelings for him that you have planned all this today.” It was the same woman as before. She was looking at Hu YuJiao with a scornful smile.
