C52 – Puzzling Remark

“There is still no news about the person who ambushed us. Zuo Bo’s traitor had his body dissected, and the training marks found on him are evidence that he couldn’t have lied. From this, we can deduce his previous training location and potentially find some leads.”

Inside Hee Jingyan’s office, Loong Shen handed the documents to Hee Jingyan and proceeded to explain further.

“Did he conceal the poison in his mouth?” Hee Jingyan, while perusing the information, suddenly inquired.

“Yes, it appears he anticipated the possibility of exposure, which is why he had a poison capsule hidden in his mouth. However, it’s puzzling how he managed to remain hidden for so long. The timing of the interrogation was just right, yet he showed no signs of distress. It’s as if he believed he could be saved. What’s amiss with him? Or perhaps he was simply exceptionally skilled at concealing it? Outsmarting our scrutiny. But why is the connection so intimate?”

Nevertheless, Hee Jingyan suddenly smiled. “It’s unlikely that any legitimate military personnel would resort to consuming poison as a first course of action. Such extreme methods are typically employed by former spies.” Could it be a ploy to confuse and mislead others? Or was this his only recourse? Eliminating him to ensure his silence?

“It seems that the other party is exceedingly cautious in their operations, going so far as to eliminate a low-ranking subordinate who cannot speak. No matter what happens, as long as they continue sending individuals our way, we can gather more clues. Let me, Hee Jingyan, observe how the enemies will react.”

It’s alright if Hee Jingyan isn’t afraid, but his expression clearly conveys a readiness for the enemies to come forth swiftly. I’m not sure what he’s thinking, but he must have his own plans!

Observing Hee Jingyan’s expression, Loong Shen understood that Hee Jingyan was eager to give it a try. Loong Shen wiped away his smile and said, “Are they demons or mere foot soldiers? Let’s face them head-on.”

Loong Shen placed his hand on his sword, prepared for battle. To them, the stronger the opponent, the greater their desire to emerge victorious.

On the other hand, Nan Xiao’s expression didn’t appear too favorable. He seemed fearful.

At this moment, Hee Jingyan unexpectedly handed the documents to him, saying, “You’ve been an aide for a year as well. Take a look at these matters and provide your opinion.”

Nan Xiao’s body trembled, but he swiftly stepped forward to receive the documents. As he glanced at the densely packed information and anatomical diagrams, Nan Xiao’s heart constricted, and his hands involuntarily trembled.

Nan Xiao focused intently as he read the information, wondering if a person’s physical characteristics could indicate their growth as a soldier. However, the more he read, the heavier his mood became.

Loong Shen took a seat on the nearby sofa, casting a brief glance at Nan Xiao before stating, “I’ll leave the remaining information to you. Please help me alleviate some of the burdens. Loong Shen’s expression remained neutral, making it difficult to discern his thoughts.

Hee Jingyan was no different. There was nothing peculiar about his face. It was a complete contrast to how he appeared in front of Xu Yangyi, exuding an oppressive aura.

Nan Xiao closed the documents and informed Loong Shen that he would commence promptly. He then saluted Hee Jingyan and Liu Tie before departing.

Loong Shen observed Nan Xiao as he closed the door, then turned to Hee Jingyan with curiosity. “You mentioned that our chances are quite high?” Ye Zichen interjected.

Hearing this, Hee Jingyan chuckled and responded, “Who can say for sure?” His answer was ambiguous, laced with a touch of playfulness.
