Song Qinghan’s leg had healed entirely by the start of July.

The spray in the glass bottle had been completely used up by then, and Su Jiaojiao had even broken the glass bottle.

When Song Qinghan had regained movement in his leg, he still felt some discomfort in the places where his skin was still bruised. However, he could walk normally if he took it easy.

This piece of news made Su Jiaojiao’s parents so happy they couldn’t stop smiling. It was so unexpected they didn’t even believe it at first.

After all, the doctor had initially said that Song Qinghan’s leg might never recover. Who would’ve thought he would be able to walk normally again after less than three months?

Sun Fang had thought that her son-in-law would probably be a good-for-nothing for the rest of his life. She had been planning to take care of them until she died. But now that she heard the good news, she couldn’t stop laughing. Su Jiaojiao’s future was finally stable.

As long as Song Qinghan was willing to work and could find a job, why would they be afraid of not having meals to eat?

Because of this, the two of them were in an ecstatic mood despite the tiring second harvest work. Sun Fang even told Su Jiaojiao to buy meat and call her two brothers over to celebrate. They ate all the crayfish Song Qinghan fished as well.

On the other hand, that also meant Song Qinghan had to start going to work. Although Su Jiaojiao had delayed this matter for quite some time, she couldn’t delay the inevitable. When the second harvest was halfway over, Song Qinghan started working.

“Since my leg is better, I shouldn’t lounge at home all day.” Although Su Jiaojiao was reluctant to let Song Qinghan work, he wasn’t unhappy and instead coaxed her, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of myself.”

As Su Jiaojiao saw that he was determined to go back to work, she decided not to continue opposing him, “Alright then. I’ll get more meat for you to eat when you get back home from work.”

She didn’t like meat much anyway, and there were still plenty of the meat vouchers she exchanged from the system marketplace.

“Ok. Thank you, Jiaojiao,” Song Qinghan lowered his head and brushed against her cheek.

Su Jiaojiao’s face reddened. Her watery eyes fixed on him, she pushed him away lightly and said, “Go to sleep. You’ll have to wake up at 4 am tomorrow for work.”

“I will. Go to bed too; I’ll fan you.” Song Qinghan let her sleep first.

Su Jiaojiao was unwilling at first. After all, she wasn’t the one who had to work tomorrow. However, she had to compromise under Song Qinghan’s insistence, closed her eyes and fell asleep as he started fanning her.

During the second harvest, time flew past unusually quickly. Entire days were compromised of working and eating.

Practically everyone in the village had gotten darker and thinner.

Even Song Qinghan, who had become paler and gained weight after Su Jiaojiao’s care, had slimmed down. His skin had once again darkened severely. The nutrients Su Jiaojiao’s generous meals of fish and meat weren’t enough to keep him at a healthy weight. If someone touched his shoulders, they would find them bony.

Su Jiaojiao felt heartache whenever she saw Song Qinghan, and was starting to feel a little guilty she stayed at home. However, it was impossible for her to actually go out and work, so all she could do was continue feeling that guilt.

Thankfully, the second harvest had finished quick enough. Everyone let out a sigh they didn’t know they had been holding. The frantic atmosphere that had become the norm had also dissipated.

Su Jiaojiao took some meat, pork bones* and pork intestines to the Su Jiaojiao so she could make a big meal. They’d need some nutrients, especially after the second harvest.

*(pork bones with marrow inside)

She only did this for the sake of her parents and brothers. (???)

No matter what, she had still taken over the original host’s body, so she had the responsibility to treat her family well. Su Jiaojiao didn’t do this because of any monetary rewards, but because of her own morals and values.

The original host, Su Jianhua and Su Jianjun were siblings. Before the two of them had married, they would leave the best of everything to their little sister, their original host.

When they had all married, and she was a good-for-nothing but ate better than their nephews, the two of them said nothing. They even went so far as to suppress all complaints from their respective wives.

Afterwards, the two wives had worried Song Qinghan would come over and eat them out of house and home. Zhang Qing had also thought that Su Jiaojiao now belonged to the Song family after marriage and shouldn’t come to their place for a meal all the time. After hearing these kinds of words, their relationship became strained, and Sun Fang, who had always been protective of Su Jiaojiao, was triggered. This matter probably wouldn’t have escalated as much if it wasn’t for that. (???)

However, that couldn’t negate the many years of affection they had fostered towards each other.

Su Jiaojiao still had some meat vouchers left, so she brought them to the family home.

“Little sis, where did you get that many meat vouchers?!” Su Jianhua looked at the large pile of meat vouchers she held in one hand and the larger basket filled with meat she was holding. All he could do was look at them dumbly.

After a bit, he came to his senses, feeling both happy and worried. He couldn’t stop himself from giving Su Jiaojiao a dollar, even though it couldn’t pay for all the meat she brought, “I’m giving this to you. You shouldn’t put yourself at such a loss all the time, you know?”

Su Jianjun had only been feeling overjoyed; However, he reacted immediately when he saw his elder brother give Su Jiaojiao a dollar, and promptly did the same. “I only have this much money. I’ll repay you with some sweets when I get more.”

Su Jiaojiao waved away the money embarrassedly, saying, “You don’t need to do that. I’m only giving you 1 jin (~600g) of meat or so.”

When Zhang Qing and Li Shou saw this, they felt some heartache but said nothing. After all, that wasn’t a small portion of meat. It’d be a shame not to get it.

But when they flicked their eyes over to Su Jiaojiao and saw what she had on her wrist, they shouted, “My god, you even bought a watch?!”
